How to add a new 2.5 inch Lexar SSD to Lenovo ideapad S145 Laptop

I really like the lenovo S145 as they make it really easy to open up. 10 Screws to Remove the bottom Cover. Four Screws to Remove from the SSD bracket. Don't forget to ground yourself and be careful when holding the SSD.

No problem. Btw they recommend gpt as the newer format for ssds. Either gpt or mbr work the same way but I hear gpt is better

Original ssd storage m.2 is 256 gb. The second storage that was added is 2.5 inch ssd is a 120gb ssd (after format capacity is 111gb) hope that answers your question.

in the market today go for a 500 Gb one , more space , optimal price $/GB . Also a bigger ssd has a higher TBF rating so it will last more

hello. i enjoyed the video. my ideapad s145 came with a 128g SATA ssd, i need it to be more. i noticed your laptop has the M.2... My laptop had the slot for m.2 or nvme SSD PCI( which may be the same thing). i am not computer savy but would like to increase from 128G. which would you recomend and why? thanks.

Definitely m.2 ssds make a big difference compared to Sata. If you do decide to get a m.2 ssd make sure to check if your laptop has the m.2 ssd screws in it. If not you have to buy the screws too. Lenovos come in many different configuration. Also check the read and write speed of your sata ssd by running a test like crystaldiskmark or something similar so that when you shop for an m.2 ssd you can check the read and write speeds and ensure you get the faster one

M.2 ssds usually get hotter compared to sata ssd but they are usually much faster. Or was your question what’s a good brand of m.2 ssd?

My laptop do not have the screws for M.2. I guess is really My question for easy way to increase memory from 128g to a bigger. Could I plug in a m.2 to increase memory? Or best to get a Sata ssd with say 500g and clone the ssd? Thanks for your response.

@@rtw7931 Adding an M.2 would definitely increase your storage, but it would be a separate partition. Which is completely fine too if that works for you. Cloning and using a bigger Sata also works, but it would mean you won't be using the original sata anymore. In my opinion, adding an M.2 would be easier to add and setup as cloning would take more time. Just my opinion though because that would mean you have to buy m.2 screws. I also think M.2 are more expensive compared to 2.5 inch SSDs

Metal case was included with the laptop. The screws I bought off amazon. I usually use m3x3 screws but something similar will work too

are you trying to add an m.2 ssd? try crucial scanner or cpuz to see if you can add an ssd. you should be able to but I would double check to be sure.

Double check your motherboard and cpu model. If it’s the same as the one in the video you could add an m.2 ssd. I would check your cpu and motherboard to make sure that it can support it

Alejandro Molina for m.2 a sk hynix gold p31 is the fastest you can buy and for sata a sk hynix gold s31 is the fastest you can buy

Nice! it's really up to you. m.2 SSD would definitely boot faster, then you could use the HDD that was included as an extra SSD.

Yes, highly recommended to disconnect the battery. I was a rookie at the time. Luckily nothing broke. Future videos I disconnect the battery

The 2.5 inch ssd is basically adding a second ssd to the computer. The laptop had all the connections included to add a second ssd. Basically it allowed more storage. The primary ssd is an m.2 ssd. Hope this helps.

Sorry it doesn’t do fps? Well i think it gpu matters most. The laptop in the video is a lenovo s145 which has no dedicated gpu memory. Completely reliant on ram. Ssd should show games fps, but you could totally swap the ssd with a 2.5 inch mechanical hard drive. It won’t be as fast and will be noisier. But it’s all up to the person using. This lenovo laptop isn’t really meant for gaming

Yes. You can use both. The 1 TB HD can be used as your secondary disk.

Yes, but only 2.5 inch hard drive. 3.5 inch hard drives would be too big

I have the same laptop (same model) but it didn't come with ssd, I don't know if there is a place for the 2.5 inches ssd , how should I know without opening it because it is still in the warranty?

I would check task manager > performance > disk to see if the current storage is hd or m.2 ssd. If you already have a hard drive then you can’t add a 2.5 inch ssd. Other than I don’t really know to tell if there’s space for 2nd ssd

Do you know what motherboard model you have? Most likely you can put an m.2 but you might have to buy a screw. Since you mentioned it's still under warranty I would ask the place you bought it from. They might have made changes or know the configuration of the laptop since they set it up. Only way to make sure is to ask the store.

Adding a 2.5 inch ssd in my opinion but it makes things tricky because you have to select it when saving stuff to it. If it was just the main nvme ssd you only have one location for storing things
