You can also add extra storage by connecting a storage device to the USB port on your router if it has one fitted. If you have more than one Firestick and Android Boxes they can all access this storage without adding storage to each device individually. You can play stored movies using vlc player or open files with es explorer. It might be worth doing video on this Tanya.

I have an external hard drive that I wanted to use. I was able to use the AOMEI Partition Assistant to Partition just 32GB by using the Resize/Move Partition feature of the Software. I did this to keep the portion of the drive separate from my firestick drive. Once I created it, I formatted to FAT32 and it worked perfectly after I saved everything.

Fantastic video and presentation Tanya. Found out why the videos were not able to be recognized/transferred onto 1TB Hard Drive....Some of them were up to 16GB in size and FAT32 only recognizes up to 4GB in size....will have to compress some of the videos. Great tutorial...thanks again

Hey Tanya, thank you so much for your extensive knowledge and for your excellent way of explaining things. I refer to your channel a lot. I have just purchased a 256B Sandisk flash drive 3.1. I went through every step because the first workaround wouldn’t work due to the capacity of the memory 30gb. I downloaded (AOMEI partition’s assistance demo) and followed every instruction as shown in your video and was finally pleased to see FAT32. I was thinking this is great, easy, but as soon as I applied the settings it told me that the “demo version is for evaluation purposes only”. It wants me to “upgrade with a discount” but I was under the impression it was a free application, with a Choice to purchase a premium, but It wasn’t something I felt I needed more than once and I felt I didn’t need to take any further action after formatting my USB memory drive. I got all the way to the end then I got a screen saying I can no longer go any further without agreeing to sign up to it. Can you help me find a work around? Is there an alternative application as I simply want to provide more storage to my fire stick which I’ve stopped using because of the constant interruptions regarding storage. Hi. For adding storage, it is a different process depending on which Fire Operating System (Fire OS) you have. Thank you Tanya for all your helpful hints and videos. I do have a question though. Everything you said was spot on and your direction was on point. My problem is when it’s time for updates, I’m prompted to do so but am always told I don’t have any room and to update later. Do I need to delete wanted programs? Is there any other remedy? Thanks

Unfortunately, this does appear to be an issue. As far as I am aware there are only 2 choices: 1) Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app 2) Move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage. Equiptment; FireStick 4K USB drive 3.1 512 GB formatted to Fat32 (Scandisk brand) OTG (the small compact one as shown on your video. USB extension that come with it own power cord(I think 512 gb a bit big so I buy this to cover the power problem). Follow your instructions step by step. Format with the software you mention step by step, Fat32. Done all, troubleshoot all. FireStick don't see my USB drive. No warning or error message. Just don't recognize, thats it. By the way, I also had two Samsung 3.1 128 gb mini USB drives standing by. Did not use it yet, just don't want to work blindly only to receive the same result(not recognize the drive). Rather here your suggeston before make another move. I also have many 64 gb and 32 gb USB drives as well, but they are all 2.0 version. I hear somewhere that FireStick won't work with 2.0, only work with 3.0 and up. That is why never try with any of these 64 and 32 GB.

You and the other people that do these videos were inspiration for me to buy that fire stick I got the third generation though the 1080p One it was only 19 bucks on Amazon but now I'm going to buy a record SD card and thumb drive SanDisk micro SD card and I also love all your free streaming apps you show I finally got that one free stream one working and I found the Roku channel on Amazon fire Stick I plan on buying the Google streaming stick remote control thing for 19 bucks at the end of the month Google TV streaming device with remote for 19 bucks going to buy on Amazon I'm hooked on all these free streaming services down I also sign up for Walmart plus free free delivery service plus Paramount Plus commercial plan included but sadly I had to cancel because no grocery delivery where I live in Seattle Yes I'm stuck with Amazon fresh grocery delivery I love your videos I learn a lot I'm also learning how to fix my PS4 slim it quit working I'm pretty sure because really dirty though I'm just too lazy to clean it but I know once I get working again I'm going to play all this video games I have

Hi, I just found your video and it is very helpful. I have the 4k fire stick, and got the toshiba 2T external hard drive with the otg adapter you suggested in the video. i got the hard drive formated to fat32 but when i plug it into my fire stick i can not get the fire stick to turn on it keeps rebooting. When I unplug the hard drive it works normal. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The storage drive could be too large. As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. I hope this helps. Hey there. I'm hoping you might be able to give me a pointer as to why my SanDisk 32GB Ultra Flair is not being seen by my Fire TV stick 4K. I have checked everything to include having a version 6 OS, I correctly formatted the USB as Fat 32 with default allocation, I correctly attach the USB to my Fire TV stick 4K, I verified the information entered into the ADB shell, and my USB drive is still not seen or recognized. I have watched your video four times. I have used three other OTG cables / adapters. When I enter the IP address into the ADB shell, then follow with the "sm list-disks" command, it only returns the same response prompt, "mantis: /$". There is no info related to an external disk. The "df -h" only returns information on the internal storage. There is nothing to indicate an external USB is attached anywhere. This USB drive can be read by my laptop and PC, but not by the Fire Stick. Please, can you tell me why it does not?

No, exFAT is different to FAT32 and is unfortunately not supported by fire sticks currently.

If you are looking to upgrade: the 4K Firestick, 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick and the Lite Fire TV Stick are all capable of expanding the storage. Hi Tanya! I ve added storage to my firestick 4K. I did format my usb to fat32. I noticed that if I go on my fire tv I only see internal storage. I do not see anything saying external space??? Help.

On the 4K Firestick, when you add additional system storage, you will not be able to see the increase in storage space within the Fire TV Settings. if you added storage using the method shown in this video, you will only be able to see your external storage with a file explorer app such as X-plore. Yes you do need an OTG and storage. There could be several ways to resolve this. 1) Is your storage formatted to FAT32? 2) Restart your device. Unplug it from the power supply and unplug your power supply from the power source. Wait at least 30 seconds then re-boot everything and try again. 3) Do you have an alternative USB storage device you can use to try this with instead? 4) Do you have an alternative OTG cable you can try? I have a fire tv 4k max using the latest fire os 7.2.8.5 connected to a ugreen 4 in 1 usb hub/gigabit Ethernet adapter and an otg cable. I have a 2TB Seagate external HDD with it’s own power source, formatted to Fat32, connected to the usb hub/Ethernet adapter. I had about 1.3 GB free space on the HDD and the rest was taken up with photos, movies and an extensive music collection. I went ahead and partitioned the HDD and chose the mixed storage option allocating 50% to each. The process was successful and I’ve been able to move apps to the newly partitioned storage that has a new name and shows 1TB of free space. The moved apps appear on ‘manage my applications with the usb icon. My problem is that I can’t find my photos, movies and music that were originally on the HDD before I partitioned it. On X-Plore or anywhere else.

Unfortunately, when you partition USB storage, it formats the device so that it can be used with the Firestick. This wipes all data. Sorry this was not clear in my tutorial.

Hi Tanya. Your videos are great. But I have a problem attempting to add external storage to my firestick 4K. The firestick will not recognize the storage even though it shows up in X-Plore. I am using an Anntobo OTG adaptor cable and the 256GB SanDisk Ultra Fit 3.1 Flash Drive (formatted to Fat32). I tried every remedy I could find on the internet with no results. This seems to be a common problem and people claim Amazon is now stating that only the Firestick 4K Max will work with external storage. ????

Hi. When you say "The firestick will not recognize the storage even though it shows up in X-Plore" I am not sure that I am understanding your issue correctly sorry. Your storage is showing in X-plore therefore it must be recognised by the Firestick. You can use this storage to share files with your Firestick using X-plore. Unfortunately, you cannot run the ADB process with a 2nd Gen Firestick or any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system and will not recognise the ADB commands. Hello Tanya, I have connected my OTG Adapter to my SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 Flash Drive 64GB (speeds up to 130 MB) and in accordance to your additional instructions. I have a Amazon Firestick. With that said, after the connection my TV is saying "The USB drive has been mounted. Note that only microSD cards can be used to expand storage for app installation." So now, I am assuming I need to purchase a MicroSD Card Reader? Please advise! Thx beforehand-:) Not sure why my SanDisk doesn't work.

Hey Ya Tanya....Love Your Videos!! Question for ya... I have gone thru all the steps,OTG cable,USB 30gig, X-plore file manager.Formatting etc. I have moved several apps over to USB with X-plore. I have now freed up over 2 gig on internal storage. Great!! I have done this in my Firestick in LR & BR. Everything went jus fine.... Here's the deal.... A few days after I did all this the little USB icon is not there anymore when you go to "Manage Installed Applications" only on the BR Firestick. It still shows up on the LR stick. All apps are still working fine and it still shows over 2 gig free space on internal. So.... That means they are still on USB... Right?? What-The-Heck?? I don't understand what happened only on one stick?? Do you know? Does Anybody know? What Should I do.. Ignore the missing icon?? Thanks.....

Hi Tanya, on your recommendation I bought the OTG cable from Amazon to be able to watch videos off a USB flash drive from my 4k Firestick. The first time I plugged in the drive, it worked perfectly. I had one video on the drive, so I took it out and then plugged in another with more videos. The USB was never recognized again. Did all the restarting, unplugging, file exploring. Nada. Any ideas? I know this video is 4 months old but hoping I can get a reply still. Thanks for your time. Great stuff!

Like I said, it worked the first time I plugged it in, then when I took it out and put it back in, the set up hasn't worked since then. Different flash drive, cable.

Good evening :) Bought the Firestick TV 4k a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be better to add extra storage now rather than wait till it was needed :) I have tried the ADB route , following the instructions word for word and still , sadly, the usb is not identified/ shown . I tried two devices ssd and usb stick , both FAT32 with no success . Any tips :)

Where is the storage not being shown? If you run an ADB command on Fire OS 6 you will not see the storage in a file explorer app nor within your Fire TV settings. Go into Tivimate Settings and manually specify the location of the recording folder. You can use X-plore to create a folder on your external storage and point Tivimate to that location.

You have a few options. 1) Install VLC player on your Fire TV (from the Amazon app store). Ensure that your files are stored on a shared folder on your PC/laptop and then you can see and open the Network folders in VLC Player and play the file. 2) Mirror your Windows 10 PC /laptop to your Fire TV - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o8vwZBCSJi4.html 3) AFTVnews has written an in-depth article on how to achieve this by showing how to split your larger video files with a RAR utility before moving them to your USB drive, then using Kodi, which has the ability to detect split RAR files as a single video file. I did this 50/50 process and I think as the external storage doesn't have a power source it's not showing any of the installed apps. Am I able to change this back as now my 2tb drive is only showing 1tb while plugged in elsewhere?

I've run into power issues with both the second generation firestick and the 4k Firestick Amazon sends the products out with undersized 5 watt 5 volt power supplies. this undersized power supply causes the firestick to go into a perpetual reboot mode. The fix is replacing the power supply with a 10 watt power supply. This won't hurt the firestick in any way as long as it's a 5 volt power supply. the Firestick will only draw as much power as it needs. Adding a hard drive will increase the load on the power supply. The power supply needs to be rated for both the Firestick and the Hard Dive. Also not all OTG adapters are created equal, some will have power and speed restrictions. My suggestion is you use UGreen power supplies and adapters,

Hi Tanya, I am using the OTC cable from Amazon, 128gb sandik, and a 4k firestick. When I turn on my firestick it "seems" to be recognized but only reboots over and over. I tried using another 64gb drive and OTC cable with the same results. Both drives have been formatted to fat32. Any suggestions?

Have you tried again after restarting your Firestick? Perhaps you could also try plugging your Firestick into a different HDMI on your TV? Yes, this could be a potential cause of your buffering. Amazon recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. With the Fire Cube, it is slightly different. When you plug an OTG into the micro-USB port on the back of the Fire Cube, this does not produce any power. You will need to plug a separate power supply into the OTG cable. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

I have two question ….on the firestick 4K 3rd Gen can you store videos using the method allowing the firestick to recognize the USB device or is it possible to move files to external storage on 3rd Gen firestick using X-Plorer file manager (I do not see the external drive/storage when using X-Plorer)

Hi It seem that X-plora It not moving any apps to USB. I found that the downloader folder is inside the download folder. Not outside of it on installed apps. Not sure if the amazon updates is the issue or something else.

Hi beautiful! Question. I am using a 32 gig flash drive, and all works fine for a while, then my Firestick reboots. It continues to do this repeatedly after a while. I suspect the power plug of 5 watts is not sufficient to keep up with the attached flash drive. I have an Apple power plug at 12 watts and am asking if this will keep the Firestick from rebooting. I have a 3rd generation Firestick not the newer Firestick. Help? Thanks, Tanya. ❤

Yes, it could be an issue with not enough power. Give the other plug a try and see if this helps.

Hey Tanya hope your having a good day. Just got the new version on my fire stick. I like it so far. I have a extended memory on a thumb drive. For some reason it wasnt recognizing my extra apps. Had to go to apps and channels then app library then select all then hover over each app and hit hamburger option and select show on your app. Took a little time but now all my app are now showing. Hope you understand this and do a video for other user on the 4k fire stick since the new update and layout

@@kennyloydsr3664 I think the grey icon issue is specific to Fire OS 7 devices only. As the 4K Firestick has remained on Fire OS 6, this doesn't seem to be an issue.

@@kennyloydsr3664 I just checked my 4K Firestick and I also had the new update. All applications that were installed on my external storage were still there after the update and still worked correctly with no need to select show on each app - they were already showing there along with all of my other apps. Strange that we had different experiences as I have never had a grey icon issue on my 4K Firestick either. Hopefully these variations will better help me to help others in the future 👍

Hi, was a nice detailed video there. I have trouble with my setup. I bought brand new fireTV 4k + brand new Logitech G F710 gamepad + this same OTG cable. But this setup is not detecting my gamepad in either D or X modes. Any ideas why and what to be done to make my gamepad work?

@@FireTVSticks thanks for replying. Yes it connects directly to TVs usb. But I want to connect it to y fore tv 4k through this same OTG cable which has a y-split. All other usb pen drives work and detect well with this otg cable. But when i insert the said gamepad's bluetooth dongle, fire tv sick doesnt detect it.

A little confused here. I have a FireTV, the square metal box. Its has Fire OS 5.2.7.8 on it. My problem is I don't have any more storage for additional apps. You mentioned early on this would not work for system storage. Would there be a way to increase my storage for apps on my system?

Unfortunately, you cannot increase the storage for apps on any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system. I have two of the new versions of the os7 firesticks and I have expanded the external storage on both sticks one using a Extreme 1Tb SanDisk SSD portable hard dr. I can't get either units to register any apps transferred to the external storage even with using the ADB Shell . I was able finally to add storage using the SanDisk Extreme SSD 1tb dr.; and by loading the Xplore app I could transfer apps to the usb drive (but when the apps are transferred and deleted from the internal storage it also deletes it from the application interface which creates a problem ), but now my Firestick has spells when it doesn't recognize the presents of a external drive. And do you have a time frame of when you will be putting out a video concerning the os7 version of the new Firesticks? I know it's a lot to take in, but these are some of the things that I encountered by trying to optimize my Firestick. Thanks for your channel.
