I have the newest firestick 4kmax and I thought I set it up right with the external storage according to your video. I can see that I have external storage. However, I'm not getting the 'pin' icon next to the apps (in Manage Applications). I can't find the option to move the app to my external storage. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Help! By the way, my husband and I have gained so much from your videos! You have definitely helped us maximize our television experience! Thanks for all you do!
Thank You Thank You!!! You Are The Best!!! Your Videos Are Very Easy To Follow. You Should Of Been A Teacher You Really Know How To Get Your Point Accross!!!
I followed your instructions exactly, but most downloads continue to go to the internal location. The only one that went to the USB were MAX, Pandora, Paramount+ , Plex and X-PLORE. So far I have only found on app on the internal that gave the option to move it to external. I am really disappointed. I purchased a new 4K max, but it did not seem to help anything. I seems that the firestick will allow very few apps to be loaded onto a USB, even though a popup on the screen says adding a USB can expand your storage. (it does, but you wont be able to use much of it)
Best and smartest thing to do if you want to fully maximize your storage and over all firestick experience. Best results I got was a fat 32 formated usb drive. All the other drives I purchased wouldn't work for the 4k max. Great video!
Yes, you can format most drives fat 32, but larger ones will require the powered cord we shared in the step 1 video. Then you can use almost any drive.
I watched your video from last year talking about the different choices for external drives but I f'd up! I bought the OTG adapter and 64GB thumb drive around the holidays before this video came out and clicked on "External Storage". So when I download an app it goes to my internal storage and I don't see an option to move any of my apps to the thumb drive. Is there a way to un-format the thumb drive and start from scratch?
Great video worked flawlessly the first Time. But I have a problem I have 2 gigs of space open and another 100 gig on the external drive. I have 8 apps that need updating when I try it responds with not enough space? Cleared all caches and removed dada on all the apps that I don’t regularly use. Went in through the tv program and cleared the cache on it also Same problem not enough space to install. Any ideas
I watched all the videos, listened to your replies and purchased all the listed equipment, exactly. Formatted to device storage specifically as described and when I go to about, it shows both storage. Nothing saves to external when I add apps or anything...just on the stick. The external has zero movement. I even purchased a new stick and repeated. What am I doing incorrectly?
It's hard to say. What apps are you trying to install? Did you install apps from a 3rd party installer like aptoide (works better). Some apps pay Amazon to go on internal). I would need more information. Also you charged the mission cable for 10 min prior to first use right?
Those are all sponsored apps by amazon. Only way to get them on external drive is through aptoide installation. Those three don't take up much space. Find out what's taking the space and clean it up. Adding storage is designed for people that add 3rd party apps or apps that DVR content.
I followed your instructions and this worked perfectly with Plex but when I uninstalled Pluto TV and then tried reinstalling it went right back to the Firestick not the external storage? Thank you again for these excellent tutorials!
Hi. I have a question for you! I have gone through the install and format the USB drive successfully. However, when I download and install new apps, they are all going to internal storage and not the drive. I did configure it for device storage and not external. Any ideas? Thanks!
I was only move one app to the USB stick. All others don’t have the option and when I downloaded a new app it would only go to the firestick internal? And it says I do t have enough storage yet the usb shows I have 30 gigs. The one app I moved to the usb that takes up over a gig seems like the original is still eating up storage on the firestick even though I moved it? I did set it up concretely.
Did you install the apps from aptoide? Sounds like you are picking apps that are designed to go on internal storage. Aptoide will solve this. We've shared everything you need on patreon free
Not allowed by default without using a third party file manager. But they lose many benefits of those apps. You have plenty of space internally for those built in apps.
Software, access, and initial setup. Not nearly as easy to use. This was the big upgrade to the max. I think the new cube coming out will have the same easy setup
Just so I understand I have Pluto already installed but to move Pluto to my 4K Max external storage I have to delete Pluto? Then reinstall to the external storage? Thanks for +your great tutorials on the Firestick.
Followed your instructions carefully and it work if I plug it directly onto my TV. But I have one issue. Instead of pluging the firestick 4K Max directly to the TV, I would like to use it with my Denon audio receiver. If I plug my firestick into my receiver it does not work. Do you have a solution and thanks for the videos they are awesome!
I’ve done all this but I keep getting the prompt that says not enough storage manage apps. I have some apps on the device and some on the external. It’s so frustrating. Help!
You can see in es file manager where your storage is taken. You also need to restart the firestick to remove that message (I know, I know I've said it a million times).
Ok, I unfortunately need help. I have done everything on this video and my downloaded apps do not go to my thumb drive. I have no idea what happened. Yes this is a very simple set up, but something went wrong. Thanks for the help in advance.
Well most common mistake is people aren't using or charging the Mission Power Cable for 10 min prior to first use. Another common mistake is using a non compatible drive. We put links to everything in the description section. If you show your drive and apps aren't going to the drive, then you might be selecting apps that amazon requires on internal. You can override that. We can help on patreon. Links in the description. It will take some time to help you.
Seems like most of the more popular apps won't move to external drive. None of my Netflix, Pandora, Peacock, Paramount, etc will move. I was able to download VLC Video player which autoloaded to the external drive. Is this the norm?
Hi I charged the mission cable for 10 min and purchase recommended hardware. I am having to replace the sea Gary one touch 2 tb external had because fire stick no longer recognized the usb, I tried on another TV had same issue. I get replacement drive tomorrow. Are you positive after mission 10 mins it pull enough power for both fire stick and drive. I still a power issued he beeping and turning off, could I use a powered usb hub with the mission cable?
Sorry for the typo, let me try again. After I charged the mission cable 10 mins, he worked for about 15 mins and would beep and lose power, like was not getting enough power. When it was working, fire tv no longer recognized the external drive, I tested on another tv with same result, I get the 2 tb drive replaced tomorrow. Are you positive that after charging mission cable 10 (one time) it is supplying enough power, usb provides 1 amp and drive and fire stick I think need 2. If I still have power issue with the 2 tb storage, could I supplement with a powered usb hub and use same mission cable. would that work and would if be safe. Thanks for your support.
Honestly, it works fine on all our TVs. But not all TVs can sustain the power. You can bypass the usb power and use the outlet instead with the boost if you have a low power usb port
I hope you can help me - I followed your instructions to the T, installed the 2tb hard drive, it worked for a few hours, then the firestick stopped working. When I pulled out the hard drive, the firestick started to work. Do you think I got a defective hard drive (it's the Seagate One touch)?
Almost sounds like your didn't charge the mission power cable for 10 min prior to first use and it's drawing too much power. Did you see the tag on the cord?
Problem! My apps will install on my usb drive. But the Apk install files. Install on the Firestick internal folder.. There by If iI i delete one, that app stops working.
Thank you!! I have a question, will this process, allow me to download a movie from an apk, such as BeeTV, TeaTV, VivaTV or MovieHD, or any other apk, and download it in such a way that it downloads to an external drive instead of the internal drive?
If you used the drive we shared in the description it works fine with the firestick. It will prompt you to format it the first. time you "seat it". Important that you watch all three of the setup videos on here and use the correct equipment. Also don't forget to charge the mission power cord first for 10 min as instructed on the cord tag
I just got all the stuff u said put together like u said but when I try to download it says not enough room so not going to 2tb drive. I can goto my firetv usb see my external 2tb hard drive. In storage i can see internal & external both. updates r all good have restarted??????
Looking to move apps from internal to external storage but it does not allow, new apps go into external but cannot move any that were on the internal before I added the external, so what's the point of external if I can't move apps to it,
Mine does not recognize the hard drive. I followed your previous videos, purchased and installed the OTG and power cable as directed. Plugged in the 2T WD hard drive into the OTG USB port, and nothing...
@Curiosity Cafe , no, I did not see that the mission cable had to be charged. I bought the same hard drive that you showed. I installed all of that about a week ago before the hard drive came today, it's been working fine. When I plugged in the hard drive, it didn't prompt anything from my Fire Stick. Should I take it all off, charge mission cable (plug USB into outlet for 10 mins?), then reinstall it all?
Let me ask you, Do you have a 4k max firestick? Did you get the mission cord and charge it for 10 min prior to first use? Did you get the drive we linked in the description?
I moved my tivimate app to usb drive and am able to run app from there. But I notice when I run the app my soundbar disconnects and I get only sound from TV. This is fire TV. I am using the USB as device storage. Sound bar worked fine when I ran app from fire tv.
Hi My name is Tom and I added 2 T B Thum Drive to my Fire Stick following your instructions it formatted the thumb drive and went buck to my storage it says under External space no USB Storage Detected. what went wrong????
Hard to say. I'm not there to see all your steps. Are you using the powered cable? Did you charge it up for 10 min prior to first use? (tag should say that).
4 different videos where you say you can still do this on the old version of firestick 4k and theres a video on how to do that but there is not a video on how to do that i can't afford a new fire stick how do i do this on the old 4k
If you click our channel name, then playlists and scroll you will see two right there. Turn your firestick into a beast and turn your firestick into a mega beast (hub version). You don't see those videos? Been on the channel for two years (yes they are older, but the stick you are talking about is from 2018).
Hi, when I insert thumb drive it does the popup, I choose DEVICE format and once its done I go to ABOUT and it shows no external storage. Am I missing a step? Thanks!
I'm not sure, once you select thumb drive it will start formatting. Once complete, it will let you know and at that time you can maneuver to settings to check it out. Make sure not to do it too quickly or it stops formatting. Same process as we show in the video
@@CuriosityCafe Thanks for reply. I think the issue is I'm trying to use an external Samsung T7 SSD drive. Do you know if these will work by chance? Thanks!
Exactly the problem. I love SSD drives. I use one for my camera and videos. But the firestick doesn't like it. Wrong file format. Gotta use drives we recommend for it to work guaranteed.
Hi thank u but I try to move the apps I have on the fire stick that’s a 4 k and I can’t move them to the external can u show us why and explain thank u always
Which is the video you refer to at 1:10 that allows you to save so much memory on firestick (4.54 of 5.33 available). I would like to get those results !
It might be a little late if youve already setup and used your stick. People make the mistake of allowing Amazon to install all the apps during initial setup. Don't do that. Then go into settings and turn off all the ads and screensavers, and Amazon photos. Those are what are taking up the space. They don't tell you that cause they want to gather your data and push interest based ads to you on the stick and in your email.
@@CuriosityCafe Thanks. I kind of thought that might be the case, but I hadn't tried. Fire-sticks are bloated with per-installed apps, and very little factory installed storage to run them. I have spent more time tweaking my new theater system than enjoying it. It's an aggravation I paid thousands for. Leisure time is getting to be more work than actual work. Oh' well, I'll take your advice, and try aptoide. Thanks.
v1 max by vsee without question. 7 IPTVs and works amazing. We have negotiated $100 off on patreon. We also have a review over there. Might wanna check it out
There is no V2 max. There is a V1 Max with 7 iptvs and the V2 pro with just heat iptv. $100 off applies to both boxes (it's actually more than a hundred off each, but we only share that on patreon).
None of my existing apps like philo, sling, etc have the option to move to external usb. Does that mean i have tj Uninstall everything and then reinstall them the the usb?
@Curiosity Cafe directly installed from Amazon. I finally got the device to recognize the usb , but for example I uninstalled Philo which is a paid streaming app and just re-downloaded to the stick and not the usb. Am I missing a step if I uninstall an app and then re-download it how do i get it to go to the usb ?
Try installing Phil with Aptoide. It's a 3rd party installer and all those apps go to the external drive automatically. Philo probably pays amazon app store to not allow it through them
Nine of the major steaming service apps like Netflix, Max, Disney, Hulu, RU-vid are giving me permission to move them over to my SD card storage. What do I do? It’s set up as device storage, not external.
No, not if you are using the Amazon App Store because they pay Amazon a lot of money to be preinstalled. You'd have to install those from aptoide. But those all will fit fine on your firestick. With plenty of space to spare. It's all the 3rd party apps that you'd want on external.
@@CuriosityCafe Thanks for the quick response! I set it up as device storage as you had instructed. I think I figured it out though. Some of the apps don't automatically install to the USB. I used X-plore to uninstall and then reinstall manually which installed them to the USB drive. Thank you!
@@CuriosityCafe I thought internal is for apps, and external is for movies and music etc. other sites say apps may run slower on external storage. what is the difference?
No, you are getting it confused. Works fine if you do it just like I did in this video with the same equipment (fast drive like the one we have here). Don't confuse things with two drives.
Did you use the hard drive we recommended? Not all work and draw too much power. Also did you charge the mission power cable for at least 10 min prior to first use?
Crazy though, ONLY SOME apps download straight to the drive, others like Tubi, vevo tv,, science Go, peacock tv, history...etc won't move to the drive! Sux, chewing up the shit internal storage they give you to the 4k max. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, try some of the apps I just listed, see if you get them to your extra drive? Tia
Some apps paid Amazon for this. Just install them from aptoide. That's what most do. Then it goes to external. We have these types of help videos on Patreon already. Saves you time
Only if you copy and not move. Two different functions. Notice we maintain 4gb of free space on our internal stick everything goes to external. Also the apps that won't move, you just need to get the aptoide versions. Problem solved
I followed your instruction to the letter, but they are showing without the "?" sign, as installed to the internal (not usb), namely Netflix and Windscribe. ES File explorer did install to USB. Why is this happening ?
Yeah, the only reason some apps don't install directly to external is because of an agreement some apps made with amazon. If you use a 3rd party installer, you can bypass that.
@@CuriosityCafe Well, I tried it, and the results were much better...but still would not install 1cast, Windscribe or Analiti on USB. (success with airscreen, youtube, VLC, Netflix, and ES File explorer). Any other suggestions for the ones that still dont install to USB ?
That’s actually not true. Unless you are referring to apps that are “built in” to their hardware. You can still reinstall with aptoide and then move to external. We have helped people with this on Patreon. Did you miss this post?
Hi I'm trying to install kodi on my 4k max ..says not enough storage ..I have internal memory 538mb ..I only have the built in apps in there all other apps on external sd ...can you please help
You definitely should set up the box the way we show in our videos if you want Kodi on the stick. Kodi is not great for sticks like they used to be. Way better options we share for free movies and tv. But if you want it, you're gonna have to change firestick settings. Watch our videos
Yeah, kodi is not good anymore. We have all our recommended apps on patreon with installers. I can't even share this on youtube anymore due to their rules. They will suspend the account. So we opened up: patreon.com/curiositycafeyoutube - You can access it all there. You will be surprised with all the content, videos, posts, links, discounts on products, and giveaways on there monthly.
Question, I have a 2tb external drive with movies and such on it. Is there a way to use it with my 4k max firestick without losing what I currently have on my external drive?
I have done all the steps. It does not work. It shows up on the firestick 4k max and it was formatted for internal storage. I downloaded plex and it does not go to the USB drive.... please help. I am using a 128 g flash drive Thanks
I'm unable to get the screen that has the 3 format choices. All mine will do is format the drive but no "Device Storage" option. I see the drive in the external space as 30gb How do I get to the device storage option.
Weird. I know my 4k only allows format drive, but the max has three options when you first plug the drive in (while the screen is already loaded). External storage, device storage, and nevermind. You have to select device storage. If you need help, reach out on patreon and I can help check your latest update etc. You are in the US right? Look forward to hearing from you.
I do not know. I need all the variables. Are you in the US? Did you set it up the same process? Do you have the latest 4k max update? Lots to ask. The only sticks that shows format as internal are my 4k sticks (not the max) and one outdated max (which I reset to factory and now it shows both options).
When I plug in my 1TB drive, I do not get the Unable to read USB device window. Is it necesary to have the Mission device, or can I simply power the Fire Stick with the Fire Stick power cord plugged into the OTG??
@@CuriosityCafe That will make the Fire Stick see my San Disk drive? I've seen other videos where the Mission device isn't used and the drive is recognized...hmmm. I'm doing something worng....
If your drive it too powerful, then YES you need the mission cable. Only slim low power draw drives will work without the powered cable. Our 2TB slim drive is a rare exception. Most people can't do better than 64GB. We just posted the full 3 part video all in one. If you follow what we show, and use the equipment we use, it just plain works.
You would have to look at the specs. You can tell by looking at them online the ONLY over terabyte drive that I know works without a powered cable are the slim line. I'm guessing yours isn't. Simple mission cable will help you
Watched all the videos. Ordered and installed the Power Cable. Added OTG cable and then a 1T external drive. Drive formatted per the video, and then verified on screen. Added your example of Plex and it installed to the external drive, and it worked. Now for my question. I deleted some internal installed apps in order to reinstall them to the external drive. They installed to the internal. Is there another way of moving internally installed apps to the external drive. Try four apps and they installed to internal drive. Plex was the only one that installed to the external. Did I miss something?
Buffering doesn't have to do with storage issues. Has to do with service paid for, router, or the app you are using. We have other videos to help with that
Not all apps can go to the external drive. So what you do is when you set the firestick up the first time, do not allow all apps installed. Then you will have 4gb free and just install apps that can go to the external drive. Problem solved. Built in ones wont, just 3rd party.
