Great job. I have done the programming and splitting my drive but have found that I really don’t use the external portion. With your method, all is system and that’s what I use most.
Yes, but... Everything worked exactly as you described. However, I have an IPTV subscription and use TiviMate as a viewer. I wanted the record feature to use my external thumb drive to store recorded movies and shows. However, unless I use Remote ADB Shell to split the drive, neither Xplore nor TiviMate recognize the drive. So, I used that method which is a little more complicated but works great once you get it set up. Its major disadvantage is when an app which is on that drive is moved to the thumb drive needs to be updated, it must be moved back to the internal storage space to update and then moved back. If you know of a better method to do this using this split method, please let me and others like me know. Thanks for all you do to help us be better "cord cutters". @@CordCuttersLI
Hello- question: how is the app moved to the external USB drive? The Downloader folder shown is listed under the internal storage and not the external USB drive. So if you move the app to the Downloader file, isn’t it still on the internal drive and not on the external USB drive? Thank you!
Hello I just purchased a brand new firestick the 4k max i followed your video to the T and it doesn't seem to work apps not moving over the external storage. Can you please help me to see what I'm doing wrong. Thank you
You formatted the USB drivve for INTERNAL storage, but at 3:39 in the video, it shows that it was actually EXTERNAL storage. My 4K Max (2nd gen) does the same thing. No matter what I try, I cannot fomat a new USB (3.0) device to INTERNAL. Do you have a solution for this?
How do you know what aps will run smoothly on the external USB? For instance, Peacock, ESPN, or Cinema. Would you say those would all work well if moved to the USB? Great video - thanks.
That's a great question. Generally speaking, most streaming apps will work okay except for KODI, which I'd always recommend putting on Internal System storage. Also your VPN should be internal. Other than those, it's really a matter of trial and error.
I followed one of ur tutorials where U demonstrated how to add USB storage to the fire stick, but you used your laptop to name the USB device to locate it easier. Also, that post you didn't install Xplore as I remember! Is this an update method & can I just move the apps by clicking the app & moving it ( if applicable) to the USB drive! Since space is an issue always...can Xplore be moved to the USB? Thank U for ur work & sharing!
Hi there, I have a similar Firestick/USB question for you ...... I am ok moving files from my phone to the internal storage of my firestick (using remote functionality in my phone's file manager) and then I use the XPlore app on my Firestick, to then move the files again, to the usb storage attached to the firestick, but it would be really cool if I could go direct from phone to usb storage, instead of doing the 2 steps? can you please tell me how I could do that ?
I've just discovered this channel. 😃 Good News! I am currently using a Roku Ultra to stream. Bad. I'm on my 3rd remote because they are junk. But I'm old and not too smart on this stuff. I have high speed internet service via Optimum. Does the fire stick replace the roku? If so, I'm going there. Which one? What else do I need to know? Is there a monthly cost? I am a Prime member at Amazon. HELP !
Thanks very much for the tutorial. After some trial and errors on my part it's working fine. Questio:n I have multiple Firesticks - Oonce I have my USB set up to the way I want it, can I copy the USB with the apps and use them across each device?
My firestick 4k doesn't have USB drive on the My Fire TV. Has About/Fire TV Stick 4k/Storage/Network/Check for updates. The firestick I bought in December of 23, just now checked for updates and it's up to date. When I click on storage it says External Storage No USB storage detected. I just got done formatting to FAT32 through the firestick. Had the 3 options just like this video. My external storage is a Samsung 128GB thumb drive. Says transfer speeds of 400MB .
Hello sir, I watched your videos regularly. Thanks. Can I move movie of 1gb size from internal to usb. I am not able to do this. Pls make video of this also.
I'm not the creator of the video but I'd still like to answer. You are correct, you would need 3 sets of USB flash drives and adapters for each Firestick. In order to increase the storage capacity on each individual device.
When i reinstalled through xplore the app is installed on the usb but i cant find it on my apps menu. I can use the voice button to open it but cant find the actual tile on firestick(ive found this is only with Crunchyroll)
2:47 - When I plug in my USB, I don't get this prompt and it's not recognizing it at all. Any tips to get it to recognize the USB? I've found some solutions that use ADB, but that seems to be blocked now.
Format using a PC for FAT, and partition for less than 32gb. Split partition if needed, delete second partition, place in device, will then see it, and will format for entire flash drive size.
@@loudiamonds23ify I got this resolved actually. Use the SanDisk brand USB he is using in the video. I originally was using a generic USB brand off of Amazon, and it didn't work no matter how much formatting I did. (It works perfectly fine in my PC).
This doesn't work for me, i have a fire tv instead of te stick. using a 2.0 usb stick 128g, formatted. followed all steps and nothing moves. As in when it's re installed its not on the usb
Added everything needed...it showed the external the first time but when I got back on it stopped showing the external. Why does it stop being detected
I don’t know what I’m wrong but doing all this it is still going to the internal file. I don’t even see anything in the xplore app that has an external storage only internal
Under External shared storage in Explorer i also only see Down load folder. I am not able to use that folder to install to external drive. No USB icon shows in manage installed allications.
This might be more than I can help you with here in the comments. If you send me an email with all the details (Firestick model, etc.), time stamp in the video where things don't match up with your experience, to me at info@cordcuttersli.com
He assumes you already downloaded and installed the Downloader app. When you open that and give Downloader permissions to your files, etc. It will create the "Downloader" folder on the internal storage
I'm trying to get my TiVimate recordings on the USB stick. However, I'm unable to select a folder, I get an error everytime I try. I have tried setting up the Firestick with external and internal storage but no success. I do have Xplore but the directory structure does not seem to show the storage space of the USB drive even though the Firestick says its there. Hoping you can help. Using 4K Max OS is in the 8. X range and 16 GB is the size. USB is the 128 GB connected via the OTG cable. Thank you for the assistance.
I’ve done this on my 4K and it works BUT when the apps have an update, you have to unload them and reload them. Is the 4K Max better at managing memory?
When I click on the file after I moved it over to the downloader folder and click it, I get a screen that says staging and then says “X-plore for your security, your TV is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source” with a Settings and a cancel choice box to select. What do I need to do?
I've attached a 128 USB drive to the adapter that you talk about but I cannot get it to recognize it it's already been formatted by my TV how do I get it to recognize it
Of you've already formatted the drive to work with another device, the best way to start over is to format it with a computer. If over 32GB, you'll need to format it with ExFat, but the firestick will format it to FAT32 when you do this.
good tutorial, I have a question. I been a little confused. If I format my external USB drive to device storage, i will not be able to put some movies in the same eternal drive? what happened if I save to external storage can I move apps from the firetv and play from the storage. Thanks in advance.
You will be able to put whatever you want on the device storage from the firestick, but once formatted as device storage you won't be able to add stuff from a computer afterwards. That would need to be external storage.
Hello - I have an INSIGNIA smart television with built in FIRE TV. The television itself has a single built in USB slot. I used to watch my saved video media files directly from my high capacity USB stick right onto the TV. Since then - due to Fire TV/INSIGNIA smart television internal memory issues - I've had to wipe & reformat the USB stick in order to save & run many of my Fire TV apps directly from USB. Unfortunately now I can not figure out how to add all my video files back on to the high capacity USB stick with-out reformatting it - and losing all my Fire TV apps in the process. Was hoping for some advice on how to overcome this issue - so I can run both Fire TV apps as well as save & access my media files on the television from USB again - assuming there's even a straight forward solution to this problem. Thanks :)
hmm. Unless you pre-formatted the USB drive ahead of time, with two partitions. One for system storage and one for External Storage, you may be out of luck.
Hello, thank you for your video. I managed to install the "iptv smarters pro" application on my external memory but cannot download a film from this application to the external memory. The fire tv downloads all the time to its internal memory. Can you help me?
Despite where you install the app, you can only save/record to an external USB or network storage device; not system storage (whether it be USB system storage or internal).
That's going to be hard (or maybe impossible) with the new Amazon Update that disabled ADB Debugging. You can always use a OTG cable and wireless mouse.
When u add the usb does it then let you download streaming service video eg a movie on netflix onto the usb so u can watch it say within the 2 week period like i seem to be able to do on my ipad? Thanks if u can advise.
Netflix only supports downloading titles to watch offline on certain devices like: Android phone or tablet, iPhone or iPad, Windows 10 or 11 computer, Amazon Fire tablet & Google Chromebook (with Google Play Store installed). Not Netflix from the Amazon app store.
Thanks for this great video. If i just want to record things on the USB, from Tivimate, is the setup the same? Would video quality be better with SSD and would setup be similar?
@@nickboswell8574 Depending on the device (like Firesticks for example), you'd need to make sure you add "Device Storage" and not External Storage. Some devices will allow saving from TiviMate to External STorage (like the nVidia Shield), while others will not. A little trial & error may be necessary. Good Luck. ;)
He assumes you already downloaded and installed the Downloader app. When you open that and give Downloader permissions to your files, etc. It will create the "Downloader" folder on the internal storage
do you retain your favorite within the cinema app if you move it to the new external drive. normally when replacing the app, all of the favorites i had.
@@firestickstuff You're right, and that's a very good point that I should have mentioned in the video. Some apps do have a backup function. You'd just need to make sure you save that backup someplace where you'll know where to restore it from later. 👍👍
I’ve been trying to get this to work, I have the firestick lite tho and on the xplore app I do not see the downloaded file just only downloads is that the same?

Go to the Fire TV Stick's home screen and select Settings Select My Fire TV or Device Select Developer options (see below if you do not see Developer options) Toggle on the Apps from Unknown Sources option Select Turn On on the pop-up message To enable Developer options, Go to Settings, My fire TV, About. Select your fire stick name and click on the select button seven times in succession. Pressure back button once and Developer options should have been added.
Me too. I noticed that it said internal storage so I clicked down and found my storage device. Copied to download, moved, etc. It worked but when I looked at apps list, not there, also not on my USB device storage. It said it xpore said it had done everything. If it had its either still in explorer files maybe there's a further loop to go through or i did see it ask for money in the beginning.

Like I said, the process for adding USB device storage FireOS 6.x I'd much more complicated, but here's my (old) video on how to do it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cMUfBBeKXOg.html Good luck! 👍
Don’t waste money on a firestick waste of money get a box or a Nvidia shield or even a google tv Amazon blocking adb which is stupid a Can’t even install mouse toggle anymore screw you Amazon
Why are you yelling? 😁 Although I agree SSDs are better, Tons of people including myself use the SanDisk USB drives on these devices for years without incident. 😉
This is really not a good idea. So many reports of USB disconnection and unreliable use with apps for storage location. One minite the USB is there and the next not. Much better off with creating a cheap NAS with SMB, and limiting the apps on smaller firesticks to having 1.5 gigs free.
@@CordCuttersLI I appreciate all that you do for us cord cutters, sir. Unfortunately for me, I don't have a Firestick 4K Max. 😊 That's going to have to wait a while. 😉 I hope you, and yours, have a fantastic Christmas, bro ... assuming, of course, that you celebrate Christmas. ♥♥
