I just learned the hard way on my F150. I didn’t know that there was a trap door beneath the trap door at the top of the filler neck. I had injector cleaner all over the side of the truck 🤪 Thanks for the info. Just bought one.

My 2018 F150! Old technology was less trouble. New trucks are like space shuttles. Engineers should pick up a load of chicken litter every week to remind themselves that it is a TRUCK.

!!You can't add crap on a 2011 Ford edge and possibly other models ,the gas neck trap it's solid and it can only be pushed super hard with the gas pump nozzle! I've learned it the hard way 👈

It isn't that the funnel is long, the critical dimension is that the neck of the funnel is the same diameter as a standard fuel pump. The capless tanks have two cam latches which the pump filler pushes to the sides, which then allows the actual cap to open. One CAN open the flap with a pair of screwdrivers to push the latches aside -- and I have done that -- by the cheater funnel is WAAAY easier, and doesn't require three hands. ;-) BTW -- according to the manual on my Ford Transit, the vehicle is actually supposed to come with the funnel, but that have a way of 'growing feet'.

The capless gas fill. They are absolutely terrible. After a recent rain I opened the fuel door and observed water pooled on top of the trap door. I had to blot it out with a dry paper towel trying not to push against the trap door. There is no telling how much water has penetrated the trap door.

You need to clear the little hole under your capless filler. It gets blocked with crud then it will flow away down the back of your wheel arch 👍🏻.

Cannot do that. The funnel has to be a certain width to disengage the side rollers for the flap door to open. These special funnels are the size of the gas spout so they work. The regular thin funnels won't work. I tried it already 😂

@@petervonpanda I ordered one anyway but I won't be pouring. We will be running a hose through it and siphoning the gas we took out of the boat for the winter and putting it in the car. It goes rather quickly but no chance of backing up in the funnel as if pouring from a can. That can fill the funnel quickly. Gas goes bad so fast these days so I run all the gas left in the lines out and the run ethanol free gas through the system. I make sure I do that with all the equipment too when switching from mowers to snowblowers, generators, saws etc. I'm really anal about spilling gas or oil on the floors. I just don't want the mess and eventually gets tracked all over the place. Thanks for commenting Mr. Panda.
