My daughter ran out of gas on the interstate tonight. Brought gas out to her and could not figure out how to add fuel to her Ford using a portable gas can, without dumping it all over the ground. Funnel was not with the spare tunnel. Searched for help online and came across your video and hack. Did what you said to do and wa-la!....gas started going into the tank!! Thank you so much for creating this video!...You saved our butts!!! :)
@@alyk4683 Still have to be careful. There are still a lot of YT videos posted by idiots. Not to say there are not some very helpful and informative videos, you just need to be sure it not by some weekend warrior that thinks they are some kind of an expert.
I just poured half a bottle of SeaFoam on the ground not realizing it wouldn't open... Came home and tried 1 screw driver... found your video... so simple... thanks for the easy hack... really didn't want to go buy another funnel...
Don't feel bad I did the same thing. I was trying to add an additive for my wife's car and started to see it pour all onto the ground behind the wheel. I was so mad. I had to go back to O'Reilly to pick up the same thing that I just wasted and try again.Ford likes to make things "fun" for us I guess. 😁
Thank you! I was stuck on the side of the highway with my regular Jerry can and this video was a life saver! I didn't have screwdrivers, but I found a discarded metal bucket handle and used it in the same way as the screwdrivers and it worked.
Thanks Guy, I would like to offer a very simple solution to this problem since I own a Ford Escape and love it, and yes I did run out of gas with it, the solution is fast and cheap 3 things needed: 1 funnel - 1 piece of 3/4" copper pipe 4"-5" - Duct tape Step 1: push the copper pipe onto the end of the funnel tightly next: use the Duct tape to secure copper pipe to the funnel, covering only about 2" of the copper pipe, now you are done, to use just push the lower end of the copper pipe into the gas porthole they are the same size, note: the little port door opens with no problem, just pour in the gas. After putting this together I suggest that you keep it in your vehicle at all times, just in case you need it again!
This right here, genius. As of my 2018 fusion this problem still exists. I can see what ford is attempting to accomplish with the secure capless thing, but there should be a battery override inside the vehicle you could press that would release the inner cap for like 5 minutes. Then you have the best of both worlds.
Man, you killed with this video! Same story, gf ran out of gas during rush hour in Vancouver dt. I managed to get there quickly to help her and was stuck because of this. Found your video and as everyone said life saver! Thanks a lot for posting this! You rock!
Thank you for this, your video is short and to the point and clearly photographed... super helpful! I thought figuring out how to get the gas in there would be a chore, but I got it open in seconds thanks to you. Nicely done!
OMG!! Thank GOD you posted this! I was going crazy trying to add gas to my brother’s old 2010 Explorer and couldn’t find a good answer anywhere. Bless you!!
God bless you, my daughters car has been out of gas for 2 days because we couldn’t get the gas to go in! We didn’t have any screwdrivers but we managed to open some needle nosed pliers out to push each of the tabs.
Jesus, i’ve been fighting this for a year and a half on my newly purchase truck. It’s been making me very angry that I can’t add any thing to this vehicle. Seeing your post was actually kind a like a lightbulb in the dark type moment. Thanks, and good wishes to you.
@@Iwish4zombies Hey there - on mine (super crew) you pull down the rear, passenger side seat back, and the jack and towing tools are fastened on the floor there. They are enclosed in a material case, and on the top of that there's a white, plastic funnel attached by velcro. Just found this video for you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D8uvwbTJ394.html
aaaaaaaaaaaaahaah they treat you like an idiot and you like it, you buy their stuff and the commenmts are absolutly amazing "Jesus, i’ve been fighting this for a year" aahahhahahahahaha my gosh aagahahahaha next time put the banana out of the caje lets see if the monkey can handle it..
THANK YOU GOR THIS VIDEO!! I have a 2011 mustang, ran out of gas on the way home from work. Got a gas can and gas and couldn’t figure out why all the gas was pouring out and not going in the tank! Thanks to this video I was able to put gas in and get home safely!
Add my thanks --- after visiting a couple auto parts stores who only suggested buying another funnel, your video gave me the info I needed to get it done.
Just saw your video as looking for a hack. I lost the Ford Funnel and had never tried filling the tank from a gas can. Was in a real jam, being off grid and nowheres near a gas station.Tried for 10 minutes to get the gas hose down the filler port . Didnt realize you had to use the special funnel to fill from a can. Found this video and wooohooo! was able to dump in five gallons and not worry about cutting it close to the nearest filling station. Thank you for the video.
This video gave me the answer I was looking for. I took a good close look at the configuration and immediately saw the fix. I took a paint stir stick that usually comes free with purchase of paint and like just about everyone I had about 15 of them saved. I took one stir over to my belt sander and created a taper on each side. It did not need a steep taper just enough to fit into the filler neck opening. The taper then pushes the release tabs to the side equally releasing the preventing door to an open condition w/o holding two sticks to hold the tabs. Put the tool you just made into the glove box for when you need it again. Thanks for posting the video!
I just want to say thank you so much I have been working at it for 2 hours since the final thing is missing from the Explorer that my friend has and doing it all by myself I'm just grateful for you in your video thank you
Thanks for this. For some reason my Fusion doesn’t have the funnel that was supposed to be included (probably because I bought it used). I pressed the tabs with my pinky fingers and got it open. I added some Lucas injector cleaner, which has a long narrow bottle, so no need for a funnel.
Thank you so much. I just ran out of gas and went through hell trying to force the tab open and tried pouring gas with it closed gas ran all over the ground. Came across ur video "RU-vid is like the Bible for dyi's" found the 2 tabs you were talking about pour gas in the car all in 3mins. Thanks
I just realized this the hard way...dumped about 3oz of Stabil onto the ground before I realized it was all over the driveway. What a pain! I'll give this a shot. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much. Exactly what I needed. The only video that addressed the problem of filling the tank with the no cap tank. We're post-hurricane Ida and we had to fuel my granddaughter's focus. LIfe saver.
thank you so much, tried filling my car this morning and didn't have time to work it out, so topped up at the petrol station, I will be using up my unleaded tonight thanks to this
you LEGEND!! I really needed to add some redex petrol cleaner it was leaking out. Did this with my ford and was easy peasy! No more leakages! Thank you so much buddy!
Thank you! I just bought a used Ford and was scared in case of an emergency, how I’d be able to fill it with a jerrycan. The other piece wasn’t in the trunk, so I’m assuming the previous owners misplaced it..
THANK YOU, You just give the right tip to open the cap, now I can add my trusty lucas engine cleaner that I have used in all my cars with excellent results.
Sir if I can give you a hug right now for showing me this video I was outside -11 outside tryna figured out how my brother shit works thank you very much
Actually, you can use the funnel pressing on one side (with the front pressing on the metal simultaniously) and use a screw driver on the other side, together at the same time and it will open
Oh my gosh thank you so much. I have been trying to figure that out for a while. I do not have the funnel that goes to my 2011 ford explorer and i needed to add some additive to my tank as well because my truck is gonna be sitting for a while and I was stuck on how to open that damn flap. Thanks a bunch
I found this after I figured out something similar that doesn't need a funnel. I used my fingers (two hands) to depress the latches, then press the flap open with my left finger and slip a ~10" piece of wire (coathanger or similar, I used a piece of wire from a Romex cable) to hold the flap open. I bent the other end of the wire around the door hinge so it had no chance to slip into the tank, and then shoved the gas can nozzle down its throat. The wire may be caught under the lower edge of the flap, so you may not be able to pull it out without depressing the flap a little to release the wire. Be careful not to get your finger under the bottom edge of the flap, because your finger could get trapped. It happened to me. But I like your idea better of slipping the funnel in instead of the wire -- to the point!
Had a similar situation with a Ford Galaxy from 2011. The easy fuel valve is a bit different from yours, but I found a funnel under the floor behind the drivers seat. The funnel came with the car. That will also do the trick!
Very nice video!! It helps a lot!! The funny thing for me is that I wanter to add an "injection cleaner" bottle in the tank of my Ford Fiesta 2012 and the product (Liqui Moly) had already a plastic pipe that unlocks and fits exactly in the "Easy Fuel" valve. So finally I didn't use your hack to open the "easy Fuel" system but, thanks anyway!!!
My 'factory funnel' is (likely) in a storage unit 3hrs away. I have a bunch of unused gas that was meant for the lawnmower but the season has all but ended. Thanks for the tip!
Bro you are tha Bomb 💣 dot com. That helped me so much got home with just enuff gas tried filling up with my lawn mower gas bottle, gasoline pourin everywhere... NEway thanks again
I can say if you try to add anything without moving those tabs it does run down the inside of the wheel hub(truck). Makes me miss my old dodge when things weren't so fancy.
Thanks sir. 2010 F-150 Harley Davidson. Just pushed them open with my fingers and had my bro slam the jerry can in while i ripped my fingers out. First try. Thanks for the solution.🎉
Ran out of gas at work. My coworker and I struggled to use the gas can. The gas kept spilling! So we called AAA. He had no idea. So I searched RU-vid. Found your video, and got the gas in my car. THANK YOU!
Cut about an 8 inch length of 1/2 inch pvc sprinkler pipe or electrical conduit with the flared end or glue a 1/2inch coupling on one end if you don't have the flared end available. You can push the straight end through the filler neck easily. The flared end or coupling will keep the pipe from falling all the way into the filler neck. You can then put a funnel into the pvc pipe and fill your tank. Works on a Ford Focus and probably all later model Fords.
Or you can just grab two screw drivers and do it in 5 seconds like he did without measuring drilling cutting purchasing etc etc 😂 but smart idea nonetheless
Thanks for video! As with everything else ford can’t even get a gas cap right. Really enjoyed working for 1/2 hour in 10 degrees to put f*##*! gas in truck. Think Tundra
I guess, if you cut the funnel back to make the end the same size as the fuel nozzle (like at the gas station) , you wouldn't need two screwdrivers to open the gate.
I put needlenose pliers in the neck and spread them open to release the 2 tabs. I used my other hand to push the flap open w/ a screwdriver, and then I was able to get the funnel in. I found this was easier than using 2 screwdrivers, especially on the newer Fords which seem to have a stiffer spring holding the flap shut. Does any1 know why the flap is locked like this? It costs more to manufacture, it's more difficult to use, and it's a potential failure point. So what's the advantage?
that was very helpful, thank you sir. Ive never been so mad when I wanted to add some sea foam and couldn't do something so simple. Very frustrating, leave it to ford to make designs that are not user friendly.
thank you..I made the mistake of thinking that if I poured slow the additive would go down the vents on the side b4 the tank throat,,,nope..got crap on new asphalt on driveway
