I’m sure everyone knows by now but just in case......the R and F on the back of the minc laminator stands for reverse and forward. You can reverse your project back out of the machine if you need to

Just a quick tip I found online which really pleased me as my folder got ruined the first time I used it with masses of toner as I was just trying to foil a small area as an accent but the whole image was toner so it stuck like mad. But the solution worked really well all it takes is Acetone (nail varnish remover) and it comes straight off :-). I was very happy.

Where did you get a $50 laser printer?? In my experience they run up to $500+! Also your link takes us to a $500 printer haha Did you use a bomb discount code?? haha

Nice video. Thank you for the Bristol Paper tip because I have been using a much more expensive paper from the print shop. Also those ink marks on your transfer sheet I found that if you use parchment paper (baking sheet paper) on top of any exposed ink on your project it will keep that from happening. So i actually keep a baking sheet on the bottom on my transfer sheet always and then I use one on top if there are any area I need to cover where I am not foiling it or don't want the ink to get on my transfer sheet. :-)

Thank you so much for this! I recently got a minc and had no idea about letting the machine cool down before unplugging. Good tip!

What is the max gsm you're using with your printer? It looks as if the one recommended doesn't take heavier weights.

Wait..ok, so you're putting stuff in a laminating folder but why isn't it laminating? Like...don't laminating folders get hot and stick together? I'm so confused.

Money Manifestations it’s not the type of plastic for laminating something- its a specific type for running through this machine :)

Do you have any idea how to stop the foil from creasing? The creases make streaks on my card which means the card is unusable.
@Moneybags010

A little relieving to see some of the imperfect but still beautiful results you are getting. I've been struggling with foiling lately first with little specks in the foil and now getting streaks of un-foiled areas because the foil crinkles when it passes through the laminator. Has this happened to you before?

When I click on the link in the description for your printer it shows the price as $444....not $50. 😲 I bought a toner marker & it only worked once. 😞

Wow! Thanks for sharing this very informative Minc/Foiling video. I've had my Minc Machine for about six months, but have only used it about 10 times. However, I'm so glad I watched this, because I didn't know about the cool down before unplugging warning.

I am trying to gold foil my wedding invitations using the Minc Gold foil laminator machine. When I put the invitation into the transfer pocket and set the machine to heat 3, a lot of the image on the rest of the invitation (which is not being foiled) is coming off; it transfers onto the transfer pocket itself. Do you know why this may be happening or how this could be stopped?

To get top quality you need a monochrome laser - colour lasers cause the pitting.

This was so helpful - I have the Minc and have been experimenting with using different papers. My HP Premium Choice Laser Jet paper works very well, but it's so flimsy. I tried a random cardstock, but the ink didn't seem to stick to the paper very well. I have Bristol - I'll try that!

I'm not familiar with how laser printers work. Is toner only in black?
@sherriejohnson9250
@sherriejohnson9250 4 года назад
I see no one has responded to your question...so I'll try to answer it. There are two kinds of laser printers. You can get a color laser printer...which, of course, prints the toner in colors. And you can get a monochrome laser printer...which prints only in black toner. When doing foiling, I understand it's very important to use black. I've had the Brother L2300D for three years now and love it. A lot of crafters own this machine. It is $99 on Amazon right now. I've done a bit of research and it's suggested to make some adjustments in the printer settings to get the best results. One thing I just discovered in a video I watched yesterday is that my printer allows me to manually feed my paper (one sheet at a time, of course) through the little door in the front of the printer. It keeps the paper from "rolling" in a curling motion through the printer. It feeds it straight through the machine. Also...you need to have the settings for the printer on "manual" feed and "thick" paper. Hope this helps a bit. I see that many of the questions in this feed for the video haven't been answered, so I hope this helps you.

you do not need a higher quality printer. Just adjust the settings to print darker/richer. Has nothing to do with "quality" of printer.
@TheHappyEverCrafter
@TheHappyEverCrafter 5 лет назад
erikev respectfully disagree here- I’ve played with many many settings of darker/richer on my $50 laser printer and it doesn’t make a difference. Have also gotten professionally printed work to foil and it’s 100x better!
@Amperzand
@Amperzand 4 года назад
Some cheaper laser and LED printers that use toner, and not strictly laser printers, print in a series of dots even on the highest settings, if you look very close up. 10 to 15 years ago they didn't exist, and all printers would print up to 600 or 1200dpi solid, but a need for budget printers meant the top quality did suffer. Now you have to spend about $150 on a printer to get rich solid blocks.

Hi Becca, I have a couple of questions: 1. If you go to a printer for the toner part (the first method) how long do you have to do the foiling; is there a time limit?; 2. If you use your own laser printer but find you have gaps can you go over sections with the pen you mentioned on section 2?; and lastly 3. If you don't want the entire thing foiled can you just place the foil over the section you want to be foiled but still have the full printed or written card in the laminate (or will it ruin the ink)? Thank you so much!
@julianika74
@julianika74 5 лет назад
Hi Vanessa, I hope I can help slightly. 1. I know a lot of people who actually print from a store and will foil at home, there isn’t a time limit. As you saw in the last part of the video she foils some paper from Heidi Swapp, that is probably at least over a month old and it works beautifully. If you can it I strongly recommend printing at a professional as their printers provide a much higher quality. 2. I can’t help you with this one, my only comment is I don’t think it will turn out the greatest. 3. Yes, you can only foil a section and leave the rest black. That is actually what caused her laminate folder to get dirty like that. My only issue is if you saw how the toner stained the paper as it is reheating, it creates a ugly mess. I actually cover my none foiling parts with paper and my folders have little to no toner stains on them, (I am very cheap with my supplies so I like to push them as far as possible) My best suggestion is get a box and save any scrap thin paper to protect your folder. I hope this will help.

@@TheHappyEverCrafter My original post should have stated, I am trying to apply foil to one section of a printed page. The section of print that is not foiled fades. If I cover the non-foiled print with a sheet of paper, the ink transfers to the paper. How do you go about foiling just one section of a printed page instead of foiling the entire page? Thank you.
