This is why you are so amazing!! So many fantastic ideas jammed into one video. Now I totally regret throwing all those negatives away. I knew there was something that could be done with them but I just had to idea what. You are a genius.
Great video... thank you so much for your efforts to clear our doubts n questions... I don't know why ppl dislike videos, specially videos like these with some information... if one can't appreciate others efforts then they shouldn't discourage them...
The toner paper is a great way to use up scrapes from different projects too! If you got an empty stamp pad and refilled it with toner you could then use the toner as ink and use any stamp you wanted to.
I'm glad to see the negative space used! I've been watching foiling videos and have been wondering why no one was trying to use the left over negative bits!
Do you know if you can use stick-it on the back of the die cuts and still put it through the minc (or laminator)? I was wondering if the heat would destroy or smush the adhesive out the edges, etc when run through the machine(s).
Simon gave a good suggestion. He uses a resealing mat and a rotary cutter to trim around item you want to foil. It is easier than trying to trim with scissors.
i realize this is an older video but i am currently watching so maybe someone else will read, i got the smaller minc which runs around 80 dollars us, from hsn.com for 38 dollars along with a ton of bundled supplies, like diecuts to foil and lots of foil and glitter sheets. the extras were worth more than i paid. but, i find i use my cheap laminating machine more often. i tend to only use the minc when i need the heat for the glitter sheets and the minc has the different heat settings.
I was looking for this on HSN and it's not there. Is there something wrong with the machines so that they are not being made anymore? They are kinda difficult to find nowadays. Only a few on amazon.
Hi Jennifer first of all I want to thank you for your video lots of great information here.... I'm going back in time but bear with me for a while now I have toyed with the idea of buying the spellbinders glimmer plate I've gone back and forth back and forth back and forth finally today I went to Hobby Lobby just to look at the hot plate dies that they had they were very few and far between so I have decided that I'm going to go home and put my neck to use I've never really done this and I've always wanted to put it just beside my die cutting machine and just making a work horse and now I think that time has come so I appreciate you keeping this older video out there it's for all those Crafters out there who still like the old tools thank you for putting out quality material have a great day
Very informative! Always wondered what a minc machine was and what it did. Thank you for a very clear video! I would love to know what heating tool you use? I have one but it takes forever to heat my project. Thank you!
Hi Jennifer, Thankyou for the video. I recently purchased the Minc machine. When the paper and foil come out from the machine, the gold foil isn't applied in full with a solid gold look. There are speckles of black ink that appear through the foil. Is there a way to avoid this? I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I have a laser printer with a high quality black output print on good paper. I'm also using Minc foil paper.
I can see why this project is way much better than foil quilling. Foil quilling consumed my energy big time. I always wonder how big the feeder of this machine? Do you think the creative memories spine would work through that? Just wondering.
Had. Mink machine, used it a couple of times and then it started to smoke. Couldn’t take it back where I bought as the store was bought by another person. E mailed Heidi but never got a reply.
I get spots all over my cardstock when I run it through my laminator is this a printer issue or could it be because I’m using Cricut foil? Or maybe the wrong cardstock? I don’t see any toner any other spots on my paper.
This seems like a colossal waste of money. What is everyone doing with all these little random generic shiny printed papers? Seems like a bunch of useless pricey clutter. At least make some fake ID's or something useful.
This has sold me on this machine to make custom playing cards over a normal laminator, however does anyone know how durable the foiling is? Does it scratch or peel easily? Or is it pretty resistant
Can anyone tell me if the minc foil is safe to use indoors in a small room or has to be ventilated. I went to buy this roll on amazon and there is a warning about cancer causing chemicals which really put me off. Maybe it's to do with if someone put it in their mouth or ate it, but I'd really like to know if this is the same for all foils or just this brand as I've just got into foil printing and this worries me a little.
Hello, can you explain how to use clear sticker transfer sheets on foil. And where can i purchase the toner paper? The link you provided has stole out. And does it have to be a specific printer to print toner paper?
Hi there! Love your videos, very helpful. Looks like a fun gizmo. The foiling I have done so far has been hand drawn using a Zig glue pen but this is a good way of taking it further!
Bought them machine but may return it as it does not explain on Amazon anything about using the toner Would not have known that if someone didn’t write in a note about it.
Brilliant video, Cant wait to try the stamping one after I made a mistake not realising i needed to use a laserjet printer and was using a inkjet printer for the foiling :(
I pre-ordered my mini minc and got it last week, and have been having a blast playing with it. Thanks for the tips with embossing powder, I'm going to try the cardstock shim tonight.
I guess I missed the main point on how this machine is different compared to a regular laminating machine. Btw, having a lazer printer comes in handy for coloring digi stamps with copic markers. Thanks for the recommendation on the Brother printer.
Hi Jennifer, love your videos! May I humbly ask if VersaMark stamp pad works like a toner print? Because I wonder if anything embossed can be foiled through Minc? I would like to get mine this week. Thank you for your reply.
Well I haven't tried it but versa mark and toner ink are not the same thing. Very different so I wouldn't think it would work but I don't know for sure
just learned about the Minc and it's 8+ yeas old!! Guess that explains why they were so hard to find. I'll be foiling like crazy in the next 2 months; I've got a lot of catching up to do.
I'm very frustrated with my minc ! I use my laser printer, I use others laser printers and the foil does not cover nicely. No matter the paper! (I have tried at least 10 different papers) It leaves black spots and after following this product for about 1 year (online and youtube) I see others have had the same problem. I have even used various programs- i.e. photoshop to make the black as black as i can. I still get areas where the foil does not cover. Now, it seems, the Heidi brand stock is being pushed heavily. That's great if you want to spend the extra money AND not be able to print your own designs and text. Sad, because I really wanted to use this for my business and others' businesses.
+kimberly kline I'm having the same issues too! Tried several different types of paper, to no avail. Most of my work is done with a heavy cardstock paper with a mettalic finish from cardsandpockets.com...horrible foiling. Hopefully Jennifer can give us some insight as to any troubleshooting. #crossingfingers
+cynthia perez hey Cynthia, I'm using the minc machine as well on my cardstock papers. Unfortunately the foil isn't giving me a clean finish look. Did you ever get any help on your issue?
My lovely brother gives me Michaels gift cards for gifts- I have followed you for years, and I do have a regular laminator- just used my gift card to order the mini minc- definitely a card maker here :) Thank you for all the facts!
This is such a cool tool! I have a question though, you keep stating this cannot work with inkjet printers, but not saying exactly why. Why is it that the toner works and the ink the inkjet doesn't? I'm sure theres some science to it but I was just curious. Thank in advance! :)
Actually the reason is more to do with the chemical composition of the printing medium than the physical characteristics of the medium. The toner is made up of a composition of polymers (plastics) that when heated melts and fuses the areas printed to the foil. Try this comparisonBrush on water colour paints and brush on acrylic paints place the foil over them and run them through the machine or use an iron to apply heat. Compare the results.
I just watched your laminator version video and I have to ask. I'd prefer not to invest in yet another machine (I have two printers, a laminator, Silhouette, and I'm sure I'll buy more things in the future). If I'm only hoping to do the occasional foiling on planner dividers and accent pieces do I really need this machine? I'd probably be fine with the mini if I had to buy one since I prefer small planners.
THANK YOU for this video. I watched another video that I actually paid for (Anna _______) and was so disappointed that I popped over to RU-vid and found my ole pal, Jennifer. You explained how to use the Minc so well that I would run into my craft room and try something but it is after midnight! :0) Morning will come soon enough. Also, I love the way you used your negative space and stamps, etc. Somewhere, I picked up the idea that you would only use the minc with black paper. How wonderful that I can use my stamps and Ranger's Sticky Powder. I was almost afraid of my minc - not any more!
Hi Jennifer. I am having blotchy results too. I just checked and my card stock is 90lbs. Do you think that is what is making the big difference? I am definitely printing on laser jet for that is all we use at work.
367/5000 Hello, I have a question. A friend bought the MINC machine and once she connected it, the machine started to produce some smoke. I have seen that is quite normal that the machine can get overheated and can produce some smell, however I would like to know if the smoke is normal ? Thank you
I like this but not sure I would use it enough to warrant the cost of the machines. I may invest in an inexpensive laminator. The Minc makes some beautiful things however so I will just have to wait and see. Thanks for sharing all the information.
***** definitely! my other videos showed that you can use an laminator. this just shows what the minc can do. is like an inexpensive car and expensive - both will get you from A to B. :)
I bought a Scotch laminator for foiling and have not been happy with the results at all. I'm so glad Heidi Swapp now has the mini Minc, since I only need the 6" opening. The price will be easier on my craft budget than the full size Minc. Once I get a laser printer, I'll be good to do. Great video, Jennifer! I always enjoy your product demonstrations. Thanks!
Hi Jen! I know this is a 3-year old video but after I watched it literally dozens of times I jumped on the Minc bandwagon and got my Mini 6 months ago but I eventually got the big one 3 weeks ago for bigger jobs and I'm kinda divided between selling my Mini or keep it. Do you use them both or just the original one?
This is the second time I watched this minc video. You demonstrated so may technics that I actual bought one. Now I needed to know the best way to store the excess foil. I naturally said....I better revisit JM video....and of course you gave a solution!! Love Love ALL THE VIDEOS
Hello, can chip board go threw the regular size minc foil machine? I'm trying to make my own planners. So once the sticker is on the front cover I was wondering if that would run threw for a foil finish. Thanks
I'm experiencing a dilemma...I find the process works good with laser prints on glossy or semi-glossy card stock. However I want to use matte card stock to make invitations and cards on; I find that the paper absorbs so much of the toner on just one pass of printing that the foil doesn't catch. I have had a local print shop print my designs one over the other on up to three passes through the printer to give the design extra layers of toner. But I was wondering if anyone has had any luck in finding a way to "treat" matte card stock for printing so the toner isn't so absorbed into it? I really don't want to have to use glossy or semi glossy card stock for the designs I'm making and have such wonderful stock to use. Any advice would be helpful!
Hi Jennifer, Do you have to make multiple prints with the printer and toner or can you make lets say- 12 stationary cards with one printout. I wasn't sure if I was going to make a set if I need one print out for each card stock. Thanks!
Hi, what material you guys can recommend that works for making invites that able to use in laser printer and minc foil? I tried copy paper, transparent, metallic paper, cardstock and all of them does NOT work on minc machine. I am really frustrated as I used a several foil and keep printing. The minc pen toner is not good either. The only works for laser printer and minc was a photo paper. Please help me. I tried to call long distance to Heide Swapp but the phone just keep ringing. I googled but I did not found an answer.
Hi Jennifer! I have recently tried foiling techniques and could not get a flawless finish. Some foil didn't stick to the toner and so I was left with part foil, part toner image! I have a First Edition machine. I then tried it through my laminator and the same thing happened! I have used several typed of cardstock and the only one that works is a semi gloss one but I cant use this as it has a yellow tinge to it - what cardstock would you recommend?
Jennifer, you mentioned having a file to print just black sheets of toner, could you link that again? I'm having the hardest time finding it on your blog. Thanks.
Thanks Jennifer, I just got a minc and wasn't quite sure what to do. Your tutorial was perfect, thank you! Of course now I want to zip out and get a lot more foil to play with.
I should be wearing glasses all the time!Lol...I was looking at the one you had suggested from Amazon! The other one I bought is from Anna Griffin, and it has the 5 settings! Boy, getting old sure is tricky!😳
Do you have any suggestion for printing logos on to boxes? I'm having trouble finding a company that will print my very intricate logo design directly on to my boxes with gold foil. Heat stamping definitely has its limitations when it comes to detailed designs.
Does anyone know, if I have a picture where I only want one part of the picture to have foil how to do that? Imagine a simple Smiley face where I only want the eyes and mouth foiled but not the head circle. Thanks!
What an amazing lady you are. Your knowledge of products and your clear explanation of everything is so appreciated by one who needs such explanations. Seeing it on video is such a great help also. Thankyou so much for your time and effort making such a video. Will now have the courage to try my new Minc out. I've had it 3 months and not been game to use it! Now however access to your great ideas, tips and techniques can have the confidence to try. Thankyou
I haven't tried a laminator, but let me tell you I'd have to agree. I snagged the large Minc for $60 and it foils like a DREAM. I want to foil all the things. 😂🤣😂
I'm a huge fan of yours and Kristina's. You're both talented and give great instruction. Thanks again! I'm in the market for a Minc Machine but can't decide on the mini or full size. Decisions decisions.
I think your videos are great.. They are well planned, organized, Inspirational and very informative. This machine looks like it works really well and could be a nice alternative to a laminator. it isn't perfect, however, which is apparent at 14:47 - ironically right at the point you are saying you have "never had a problem" and "you get a perfectly foiled die cut". it looked as though there were small spots on the d that were not covered well and show the black coming through. It was a little difficult to examine because it is covered by your thumb. it might have been a good opportunity to show some troubleshooting techniques for when it does not foil perfectly..
