Thank you for sharing your knowledge, expertise and trade secrets. I didn't know what to do with the scraper blade and skid shoes but now I do.

Great video on a simple thing like skid shoes and glad you pointed out the importance of equalised tire air pressure. 95% of the snowblowers that come into the shop for service or repair either have zero air in them or are way below the tire psi rating and very rarely are they equal. If you own a snowblower or riding mower a must have for the garage is an air compressor or hand operated tire pump at the very least. The OLD MAN over and out!

@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
Yes, just like leveling a mower deck on a riding lawn mower, tire pressure is important to level the snowblower. Thanks for watching!

Yes air pressure is a decent way of making sure tires are the same size, but the correct way is to measure the circumstances of the tires. Over inflated can stretch out the tire and later with equal pressure in tires they can be 2 different sizes. I seen this when a tech from the Toro factory showed how to level a zero turn mower deck.

@@clintturland7955 An excellent point you have made and i believe you are absolutely correct. At Eliminator Performance we have likely worked on at least 5,000 pieces of equipment with air filled tires which we have checked tire pressure as a regular maintenance item then set them to the proper psi rating on the tire. I can honestly say that under inflation is the biggest issue and probably no more than a few have had tires over inflated.

2 quarters is 3.5 mm. Which is slightly less than a paint stick. Either way works well. My driveway is paved so rather it lower. Honda recommends between 2-4 mm clearance between scraper blade and level ground

Thanks man; very helpful. You made me think of something. Since I bought mine used, I'm not sure if my scraper bar has worn evenly. So if I get my tire pressure equal, loosen the skids, get it on a flat driveway and then put a little magnetic level on the front. If the level dips down to one side...it might be time for me to change the scraper bar. Thanks for making me think better. ;)

I liked the video. I use a 1/8 piece of manufactured tile.
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
Yes that works too, the issue is 1/8" is a bit too low for me, it always seems to grab on the patio slabs that have heaved a bit due to frost. I found ,1/4" was too much, and the snow would refreeze, which is why I personally prefer 3/16" paint sticks. Thanks for watching Bruce!

I used this video to figure out the drag of my Honda hss928 snowblower that pulls left. I used 2 quarters stacked on both sides to get a good distance from level ground to scraper blade.

You are the man! Can you do more Honda snowblower videos. How to fix things etc. weird Honda dealers are telling me not to exceed 8 psi in tires. However manual says 20 psi to set it. My Honda hss928 seems to pull to left. Watching this. Thank you
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
I think I commented on your post in the Snowblower Forums Facebook group, 10-15 psi is perfectly fine. 20psi is usually the max I'd run, as it's the maximum inflation rating for most snowblower tires.

@appleztooranges 2 года назад
@@EliminatorPerformance weird Honda dealers are saying don’t go above 7-8 psi. I don’t get that. Very bouncy. Even in neautral it bounces to right at 7. I’ll try 15 psi.

Don around here the driveways normally have 3/4" clear gravel so they need at least 1 inch. Compacted fine gravel you should be ok with 1/2 inch.

Thanks for the video. I just got a new Ariens blower and have a gravel driveway. What height should I set it to? And, what could I use to set the height? Thanks
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance Год назад
3/4" at least I'd say, you want it to clear the gravel. You'll have some snow left over that you'll end up walking/driving on, but it'd be better than gravel jamming up the impeller. Use any piece of wood, anything flat under the scraper bar

Checking if you have a video modifying an EGO single stage snowblower to use a set of skids? The cheap plastic scraper bar catches everything and gets chewed up fast so unfortunately have to come up with your own solution since EGO won't do it.

I have a problem that my driveway is dirt/grass and uneven. I try various settings and just take my time raising and lowering the machine...suucks, lol. Do use anything inside the auger housing/chute like silicon so the snow doesn't stick?
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
I personally don't, but I've heard non stick cooking spray works, or you can buy the anti snow stick spray. I've never used it so can't say if it's better or not. You could always get the skid ski's that are wider and longer, they're used for gravel and dirt driveways.
@brandonion5647
@brandonion5647 2 года назад
I have followed this method and it seemed to work pretty good. Only thing I have noticed is once I remove my paint stick from underneath my scraper bar and then try to pass it underneath the scraper It seems like near the middle of the scraper bar seems slightly lower. I have an Ariens ST928 model 924101. Just replaced my scraper bar with a brand new one and just put a brand new set of armor skids on. I did have to replace my hardware for my scraper bar as well as my skid shoes couldn't find carriage bolts at the hardware store so I bought regular style stainless steel bolts washers and nuts. Should this adjustment as well as the hardware I used to be okay?
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
Yea I don't see why regular bolts would cause an issue at the height you've set the skid shoes to. I have a new concrete driveway and have since lowered my snowblowers skid shoes down from 3/16" to about 1/4" as it gives a cleaner cut. The 3/16" is what I usually set them to though as many customers have asphalt driveways that are not always level and sometimes have an uneven surface.
@kenhilson786
@kenhilson786 2 года назад
And a supply of carriage bolts? I usually snap one off?
@waynestefinashen239
@waynestefinashen239 2 года назад
Great point Ken we carry a full container of 5/16" stainless steel bolts, washers and lock washers putting the head of the bolt on the inside of the auger housing, lots of clearance and never rust, always easy to loosen and adjust the skid shoe.

On the craftsman front auger mechanism it does not have any way to check the grease level in the auger mechanism, also how do you lubricate the horizontal auger shaft? Thx
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance 2 года назад
I use lithium grease, but some people like to drill and install grease fittings. Thanks for watching!
@waynestefinashen239
@waynestefinashen239 2 года назад
Some snowblower gear boxes have no access port for checking or adding lubricant. The ones that do either have a plastic cap on top or a bolt on the upper front or side of the gearbox. The proper way to grease the auger shaft is to remove the shear pins and use a grease gun with low temperature or white lithium grease on the zerk fittings that are on the outer auger blade bar. Some may not have zerks and are multiple piece auger blades so we use a spray lubricant at the junction gaps and bushing ends.
