How is the audio quality via AUX vs the OEM idrive? I have heard lots of complaints about it, but perhaps that was older units (although, there seems to be no way around AUX)
The audio quality via AUX is not changing in comparison to OEM iDrive, as long as your AUX port is functioning properly :) You can simply test it by plugging your phone to the AUX port in your car and play music. The MMI audio quality will be the same.
Are you supposed to only have wifi or bluetooth connected, not both? Subsequently I can have the BMW bluetooth connected if I want? My goal is to use carplay for maps since 3G cellular is now gone. Not having a touch screen is frustrating, but this should fill the gap for when I'm "lost".
It depends on the phone you are using, for Apple phones you need to be connected to the MMI Prime only and for Android phones you should be paired to both the MMI Prime and the OEM Bluetooth. Our MMI will definitely help you to not get lost anymore ;)
I just updated the software and my iphone had an update as well. I deleted the BMW connection in the bluetooth, but needed to add the MMI back in so that it was found. This does not sound correct per everything I've read and you say below. Net is connected via my settings on the iphone, but carplay would not come up until I added MMI back into bluetooth. Perhaps there is a handshake that needs to happen. Also - the iphone asked me to connect which was new to me (another new iphone setting perhaps)?
