Archbold's Dustin Angell (Director of Education) and Lexi Siegle (Plant Ecology Research Assistant) show how to determine the age of a Saw Palmetto by measuring its stem.
Any ideas on why mine grew like palm trees. There about 8ft high. Have always saw them growing along the ground like you show and also have a couple that do grow along the ground
My palmetto tree is around 25 feet tall it was not on my property when I moved here 40 years ago. So according to you this tree would be thousands of years old. I think you need to get back to work and start over. Palmetto’s grow very fast I know I have more on my property then all the land owners in a 2 block area. I have to pick up hundreds of limbs a year that fall on my cares boats house all over the yard terrible job just picking them up. Endangered no way they are all over the state.
Hi ivey duke, I think you are referring to sabal palms (Sabal palmetto), the state tree of Florida, which are a different species from saw palmettos (Sabal etonia)
