Breathing exercises should be implemented into your everyday life. Despite whether you are dealing with any specific concerns or challenges, you should start now so you can better cope when they arise. For deeper sleep, take 15 minutes before you go to sleep and engage in light and slow breathing through your nose. This will help you wake up feeling more refreshed.
In the morning, when you get up, breathe in and out through your nose, hold your breath until you feel air hunger. Then, breathe in through your nose and resume breathing for around one minute. Continue this four or five times. When walking to work, breathe light and slow through your nose and focus on your body and breathing. For presentations at work, slow your breathing for 5 minutes and down-regulate. This will help ease your nerves.
Do a couple of easy breath holds and breathe in and out through your nose. Then, pinch your nose and walk between 10 and 15 paces. Finally, let go and breathe and repeat. Follow this up with 5 strong breath holds one minute later. This will calm you and increase blood flow to the brain. If you are feeling stressed, breathe in through your nose and out slowly. This prolonged exhalation can help you change your state of mind and ultimately, improve your concentration, focus, and productivity.

Very helpful tips! Just got into the working world and i have noticed that my breathing gets erratic during the stressful times. I will try to slow down my breathing with emphasis on the prolonged exhalation when stressed.

Hi David. Yes thats good. Also do many small breath holds when you feel your mind is racing. Inhale (nose) - exhale (nose)- pinch nose and hold for 5s - let go and breathe normally for 10 seconds. Repeat x2.5mins . Regards, Darren

Thanks for this. I am also new to awareness around breathing. I am an asthmatic and have recently just recovered from covid (not contagious anymore). But I am experiencing shortness of breath and my inhalers are not helping. I managed to improve my breathing through these exercises and though taking part in a 10k run would clear out my lungs and help me breath. It didn't!! I completed the race but later that day and the days afterwards I have been very short of breath. I think I was breathing through my mouth for majority of the race, and I even had a max bpm of 203, and I'm only 30. I'm hoping to keep practicing these exercises in your video and do some gentle swimming before I work myself up towards more rigorous exercise. Keep up the good work.

Hi Al. It's important to practice the exercise daily and the strong breath holds (if suitable) especially before a run. This should help reduce the shortness of breath. Swimming will also help. Let me know how you get on. Regards, Darren

I’m not sure if this helps as I’m nearly 70 but I started doing this a year ago and then decided after a short time it’s not working and I keep forgetting to do it so I quit About 2 months ago I started again but this time I gave myself times to remember to do it and I also taped my mouth nearly every night. I also took up humming and it’s just amazing and I can get a longer out breath doing it ... it’s so easy to do while driving or working and it’s fun you can him your favourite songs Now I had high blood pressure but still I did it.... I no longer have it , my cholesterol and my weight are down and I have more energy and feel good although I’m not doing any running yet😂 What Patrick’s saying is so true... it’s the daily awareness of it and perseverance, keep coming back to it again and again 🙏

Hi Patrick, why the prolonged exhale? Isn't the exhale getting rid of CO² which we do not want to happen excessively? Thanks in advance
@OxygenAdvantage
@OxygenAdvantage 7 месяцев назад
Well said @blablub8427 We do not want to lose too much CO2, but as long as you are exhaling through the nose and not the mouth the difference in breathing volume will be insignificant, especially since the out breathing is only a second or two longer than the in. The benefits however can be huge. By learning to control our breathingand exhale a few seconds longer than inhale, we engage the parasympathetic nervous system, a.k.a. the rest and digest response. It is an amazing way to destress and clam ourselves very quickly and an incredibly useful tool. as long as you keep breathing in and out through the nose, you will calm yourself easily and should not have any issue related to losing excessive CO2. Thanks for the question, hope that helped.

What’s strong breath holds please
@OxygenAdvantage
@OxygenAdvantage Год назад
Hi @danielploy9143, Strong breath holds are longer breath holds designed to help decrease our sensitivity to carbon dioxide and improve our breathing overall. They are a more advanced version of our light breathing exercises and involve walking or jogging with the breath held until a moderate to strong air hunger is felt. Always nose breathing during the exercise. Please be advise, this is a more advanced exercise that is not for beginners. First practice breathing light to help build up your BOLT score. A BOLT score over 25 is a good starting point for a healthy individual. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iEGNXbj0QgM.html
