Just in time! Thank you. I also found that Varathane wood filler is a really good match for small cracks in the newly sanded floor that you don't want to stain. It's not to light and not too dark. Comes in a tube found at Menards. Saved me from replacing some oak boards too.

I have a question. Loba says use 180 pad on a 16” orbital . But you say a 220 screen . Is that still on the orbital ? Thank you
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101
180 is fine. I usually 180 after 1st coat, 220 after 2nd coat. Yes on OBS 18, but you could manually pole sand it if its a small area/job. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for posting! With water-based polyurethane, would you recommend buffing in between coats? Or only use 1 coat?
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101

2 coats minimum, preferably 3. 180 screen sand between 1st and 2nd coats, 220 light screen between 2nd & 3rd if necessary. Thanks for watching!

hi. you. said its a 3 coat. question? do you screen it between coats?? do you have to?
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101
Not necessary between 1st and 2nd coat, but you can do a light screen if the grain is raised. Screen sand between 2nd and 3rd coat. Thank you for watching!

Quick question. Does this product help prevent pet urine from penetrating the vinyl floor. If not is there something that you can coat a vinyl wooded floor so that the urine doesn’t seep through?
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101 4 месяца назад
If it's 100% vinyl the urine shouldn't seep through, if cleaned off quickly. A polyurethane coating would help but isn't generally used on vinyl as there may be adhesion issues. Test a small section first to see if it works for your purpose. Thanks for watching!

@@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101 Thank you! It’s yellow pine so I’m on the fence about it. You think it’s still unnecessary for a softwood like yellow pine?
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101 10 месяцев назад
@@TimeGallon No, waste of time and money. You can do it if you like but the end result will look negligibly different if there's any difference at all. You see, the manufactures of the products you are likely using invented these "conditioner" products as they are very cheaply made, and can be sold for massive profit to an uninformed home owner that will likely only refinish a floor once in their lifetime. Why is it all of the flooring contractors I've known in my years of doing this have never used these "conditioners"? My flooring supplies store for contractors doesn't sell any of these conditioners that you're buying from the big box retailer.
@TimeGallon
@TimeGallon 10 месяцев назад
@@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101 well I’m not talking about conditioner, I’m talking about the sealer prior to the topcoat that’s said to seep into the grain to protect the wood from moisture while the top coat obviously is just to protect the top layer . But if you say it’s a waste of time and money, that’s exactly what I want to hear.

I don't understand why most people roll now. It's slower, puts less product down, and can give you lap lines in bad conditions. I know it takes experience to tbar correctly but am i missing something?

We always used oil based polyurethane but the smell is horrific. Is there any noticeable difference with a water based product? Thanks so much for all the content. You know what you’re doing and a lot of people on RU-vid do not.
@HardwoodFloorRefinishing101
When using water based finish the floor will look like it does after it’s sanded after 3 coats. Oil based finish will have an amber appearance when complete and will continue to amber over time.
