Great video - putting together my shapeoko today! Side note: This guy has a really interesting voice. It's almost like it comes in two tones, and he's harmonizing with himself.
Bought mine a week ago. Shipping was great build instructions are horrible. First the machine didn't come with any. This video jumps all over the place and is not well done. Just build the thing with out skipping around. Build it the way it comes out of the box. There is absolutely zero wiring diagram. I have two cables that say X motor on them but I only have one X motor cable to plug in l. I have one cable that says YL So I'm guessing that goes to the Left Y-axis motor But if that's correct I don't have one that says RY for the right Y-axis. motor.
For those putting together the 4 XXL.. Pg.34,35 “Install data drag chain head bracket” and “Install router drag chain head bracket”, the bracket for both is now one piece. Pg.42 WW and ZZ weren’t included in my box but don’t seem to be needed. Pg.65 9.3.2 it says to use two M6x6mm BHCS. I tried for 10 minutes to make them work without success. I confirmed with a gage that that holes are tapped for M5-1x6mm. Fortunately I had two in my bag of spares.
Well, while I prefer Ball Screws, but belts, and their associated precision (+/- 0.003-5") is MORE than enough for cutting wood....belts are low/no maintenance/ offer zero backlash/last for years (I am on year 5) and cheap (and EASY) to replace.
Just received mine and am unable to follow this video. The video jumps back and forth with parts just appearing already assembled that I don't have. Some help would be much appreciated.
@@murtazabahrainwala9043 I emailed them and they replied that "it is similar in many respects to the Shapeoko Pro , with the exception it uses Vwheels in place of linear rails." And said to use the Shapeoko Pro manual.
I cannot be the only one that misses your channel Winston! I am glad to see you prospering at Carbide 3D though, they hooked a whale with you dude lol. Hey, Carbide 3D get this dude making more projects and putting them up for you.
Mechanically ready to turn aye? That’s odd because my left motor still hasn’t been plugged in and you don’t show how to run it across the entire machine. Thnx.
Just a heads up, there's something I noticed about the z-axis motor: the cylinder is protruding. I attempted to clean it and reposition it, but it didn't align properly, so I had to push it in further, causing the cylinder to stick out.
This video could be a lot better. I have to pause and go back half a dozen times for each step. But, I made it work since my shapeoko didn't come with any written instructions...
Couldn't find the size to fit the XXL then I realized he has 2 tables back to back. $250 a piece on Amazon. I'm thinking it would be cheaper to just build one.
Hi, what was your fix for this as I am facing the same issue? Also, my controller mount holes are further apart than the base frame fixings. I'm guessing due to poor QA they have mixed up the parts from other machines as my boxes didn't even have the step numbers marked on 5 of the packing boxes. Very poor start.
Great video, lots of concise instruction. Was shocked to see you used an industrial grade CNC for manufacturing. Thought you could have used a Shapeoko to build a Shapeoko !! I thought you had dispensed with Z axis belt in favour of a screw drive? Or is that upgrade only? Does Shapeoko 4 come in a Standard & Pro configuration or have you streamlined to 1 core spec?
My Y axis sensor isn't in the correct position to sense the metal for my XXL. Did anyone else have to move the sensor? My power button also does not illuminate, which makes me think it does not work.
You probably have it figured out, but for the sake of anyone just getting theirs up and running, look at 8:50 and you will se how the left Y motor cable is run.
For everyone who is struggling to put together a Shapeoko 4, I recorded a video that has my comments as I watched this video and assembled my Shapeoko 4 XL (successfully!). It's not the most polished video, but hopefully useful for some of you to get over any hurdles. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KfKiCAfNH_U.html
Theo, That is the Seville Table available on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-UltraGraphite-Workbench-Organizer/dp/B074WL437T/ref=sr_1_3?crid=U62GRTVQDGLQ&keywords=seville+table&qid=1673050254&s=home-garden&sprefix=seville+tab%2Cgarden%2C335&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0
1) you don't explain what v wheels are or eccentric screws 2) the video isn't in chronological order of how you actually built it 3) the dust guards on the bottom will block the aluminum slats. You did that in the wrong order 4) you don't help with the wiring at all. 5) the zooming in too close to the machine and cutting to another zoomed in shot throws off the flow of the video and makes it hard to follow. 7) you talk too fast 8) I had to rewind this video at least 100 times I'm not exaggerating one bit. 9) at the end you say initialize with the wrong software. You're clearly are using carbide motion but instruct the viewer to use carbide create. Those are just some of the problems I faced, I can't imagine what other people struggle with because of the poor instruction of this video. You guys either need to delete this video and start an actually helpful video from scratch, or (this may sound crazy) include an instruction manual with the CNC machine. For almost everyone, this is their first time building a machine this complex, and this aspect of Carbide's customer service needs a major overhaul.
Sorry you had issues assembling the machine. There are additional resources for assembly and learning CNC located at My.Carbide3D.com There you’ll find a “Manuals” link and you can download the specific pdf for your machine. Additionally you’ll find 5+ hours of video training designed to build your CNC skills. If you have something specific, be sure and reach out to Support@Carbide3D.com We are happy to assist in every way in order to make your Shapeoko experience a great one.
Just got my 4XL. I see some coments about assembly. I agree that the video is a bit challenging to follow. I did find this link to a Shapeoko Assembly Guide in PDF form. Hope this helps. shapeoko4_xxl_assembly_guide_07-08-21_v1_web.pdf This is my first CNC and am super stoked to get started.
Richard F Sebzda 1 second ago There is a pdf for assembling a Shapeoko4. and maybe a pro my.carbide3d.com/pdf/shapeoko4_xxl_assembly_guide_v1-1.pdf It was made before some hardware was updated but is better than the video.
