How to Assemble your TE20 Hydraulic Pump Part 2 

Lance, I took a 3/4" copper end cap and drilled a hole in it slipping it over the pressure relief valve to create a shield blowing out the overpressure and preventing it from stirring up sludge from the bottom. I could not find any of the shields. I did see in the manual where it showed a shield and also what appeared to be just like the end cap. So, that is how I got the idea to use it. Maybe this will help others in their rebuilds.

Hi Lance, thanks a lot for all these explications. It must help a lot of people, as it does for me. Can you tell me if it's OK too if I put the little T bar having the little triangle outgrowths (near the ball at each end) we can see at 14:40 are facing down instead facing up? If it may cause problems, I'll have to reverse it... And what's the purpose of these outgrowths?

Good video"s about the pump repair but in others you only talk about the control valves that are supplied now days but in this chapter you show the one that has the long shaft coming from the rear to stop clogging of sludge in the body. Is this an early control valve or have you been able to source a new one as i have contacted Sparex in the uk and they do not have them,so is this version needed today or are new valves just as good? As you do not show how to reassemble the pump into the transmission casing how do you attach the control valve "T" piece onto the "spread linkage ? do you have to put your hands in through the side holes to do this or is there another way and is it very difficult!

Howdy Lance, Used my new to me 1953 TEA-20 for the first time today ploughing fire breaks and noticed a rumbling sound coming from the area of the hydraulic pump. When I disengage the PTO the noise stops. It sounds to me like a bearing noise so I suspect if that is the cause, its the front PTO shaft bearing. The three point linkage is working fine and the noise does not seem to change with the pump being idle or when lifting the implement. My questions are:- (1) In your experience could it be a noisy hydraulic pump as I have no idea if these pumps can or do get noisy? (2) Can the front PTO bearing be replaced without splitting the tractor apart? Your videos have certainly encouraged me to have a go to the point I bought the TEA20 about a year ago to "restore" and replace my AW6 and its worn out sunshine trailing discs. Appreciate your time and effort on your informative videos. Cheers.

you didnt show the hardest part of fitting the pump back together but glossed over it latter on and I notice you do that a lot it just appears completed in some sections. Whilest I really appreciate what you are doing it reminds me of the story of my mums story of how to make scones told her everything except putting the tea towel over them when the first come out of the oven the hidden secrete thats how I feel when I watch your shows so often. Its the little things that make the difference. In the previous eposide you had a lot of trouble pulling it apart, and thats where good editing compresses it but still let you know the pitfalls. Your vedios have gone from a truely amazing liberary on the reconstruction of a Furgerson tractor to a good reference. I am truely appreciative of what you have done. So please remember my words for the future. Not all of us are anywhere near as skilled as you and as you have said you want the ordinary bloke to have a go. This year at the baffle I started fixing my TEA 20 1949 model, and you guessed it it has a leaking seal in the gear box. Next year I will have to do the seal. Which means whatching your videos over and over till it is solid in my mind again I thankyou for what you have done. Worst comes to worst will bring all the parts in to pay you to put that bit back together. Yours Gene McIntyre

Lance do you have any knowledge of what a fordson super major is and what a power major is and the differences between them including the differential lock pedal position? I have what I believe is a 61 fordson super major but it has no diff lock pedal some people say it's a power major. New paragraph am I missing something wonderful if I don't have a differential lock?

Great set of pump videos Lance. I took mine apart yesterday to clean out all the crap in the bottom. I found the square headed drive rod that connects to the oscillating control valve sitting in the sludge in the bottom of the tractor. I wasn't sure what it was till I watched your video last night. The circlip was gone and it had come apart. How does that circlip hold such a thin rod in place?

what oil is OK for these old gearbox and hydraulics?

Hi lance I have a t20 that will not lift. Do you have any advice for troubleshooting the pump. The tractor had been stood for a few years. Thank you
