This enduro training video focuses on balancing at a stand still using trials techniques. We want to show you how to ride dirt bikes using enduro skills and dirt bike techniques. It continues on from our basic balancing video. Learning to balance transforms the way you ride in technical terrain. Apply these trials techniques as recommended by top extreme enduro riders like Graham Jarvis, Jonny Walker and Taddy Blasuziak who are all former trials champions. So.... "Doing exercises to improve your balance will make you a better rider. If your balance is good, you’ll use less energy to ride." - Graham Jarvis
This continues on from a our first introduction to balancing video here. In that first video, we said you should aim for being able to balance at a stand still.
Everything in extreme enduro terrain throws you off balance, so balancing lays a strong foundation for enduro skills. Trials riders can balance at a stand still for as long as they like, even with no hands on the bars. Cross training has a strong focus on being able to balance on your enduro bike, even at a stand still - this is a handy skill when you have minimal run up to your next obstacle. Balance also means you can spend more time standing on the pegs in tough terrain instead of sitting down, so you will have far more control of your dirt bike. Remember cross training applies trials techniques to your dirt riding skills. When you feel ready, try getting up on the foot pegs without someone holding the bike for you. This is a balancing technique used often in trials, and is a great tool for cross training too. Most trials techniques involve precise use of the clutch and balance, such as feathering the clutch for traction control up hills or dropping the clutch to launch the bike into the air. Cross training applies the same balancing principles to enduro bike and the clutch becomes an extension of your thottle at both low and high speeds.

The depression is what I was missing. I was practicing this weekend this and other techniques, kickers, log hops, 180 wheelie turns. Man, you never mentioned how sore my muscles would get. It's better than going to the gym! And I was only in the backyard. Again, Thanks for the tips videos

In the 7 years I've been riding this kind of balance practice has been about 30% of all my moving time. I believe static balance practice is the most productive thing you can do on a bike to improve riding skill regardless of the bike or riding style.

glad the vids are helpful, gbtayc. i've done quite a few checks with my supporters over the past three years and almost all of them have said they prefer music, provided it's in the background, so it's definitely staying. this is an old vid and the volume was dropped in later vids based on feedback from my supporters... usually the non-supporters who complain about the music are abusive so i send them to our complaints dept lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0ktVedQrBvo.html

Hi Great video. I've been looking for a good balance and skinny obstacle tutorial for ages. Mostly for push bikes, but I have electric moto and used to have many petrol motos. This is the only video I can find that looks at using a leg out for balance. Seems odd because I see riders do this heaps! I'd really like to take this skill as far as possible. A more detailed video on leg out balancing would be greatly appreciated. Especially if it looks at any variations between moto and push bikes.
@crosstrainingenduro

Tayler Brown the guy in the video? "low" is his normal pressures, 11 to 12 as per the vid. personally i prefer 8psi for our cross training stuff.

I’ve got this static balance thing down on my trials bike and am trying to get better on the dirt bike. One thing I notice is the bars don’t turn nearly as far on the dirt bike compared to the trials bike. Has anyone tried trimming down the stops to increase how much the front wheel turns?
@krisomalley2653
@krisomalley2653 4 года назад
His holiness Tim Colman recomends this. Less steering angle on big jumps or high speed is more controllable. But us enduro chumps more angle has got to help! I ride both trials and enduro equaly bad so do note this after reading my doggy advice.

This is good stuff, for sure. Question I have: is practicing this on a dual sport (I have 250, 400, and 1000) just as helpful? The balance zone on my bikes seems so miniscule. Not sure whether that's more typical of a dual sport, or whether that's just my inexperience, size (6-4, 220).?.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 9 лет назад
charlie bennett weight has a big influence on balancing, especially at a stand still. we find it is still possible on, say, a DRZ400 but impossible on a DR650. but a really good trials rider could probably static balance on almost anything.
@reverenceforlife

CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES Thanks for the quick response. Seems that I'm making the most progress on my wr250r, but that happens when I have the engine running and make very small movements forward in combo with changes in body position to adjust balance. Trying to get that bike (along with the DRZ400 I have) to balance with engine off seems virtually impossible. I'll keep trying, however, cause I'm bull-headed and won't quit until I either get it or really believe it's beyond me.

So if the bike is falling to the rider's left, which foot do you stick out? Do you lift your left foot to weight the right side of the bike? This foot lifting thing is new to me.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 9 лет назад
Kory's Rides falling to the left, stick the leg out to the right. in a sense using the leg is your last resort to maintaining balance. the first two are handlebar movement and body positioning. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kPFp0i9hNpA.html
