I was so ready to throw hands with him thinking he'd be a guru holistic doctor pedalling a product or something. But he's just a sweet german dude who loves water and hates companies that exploit people 🥺💕
@sholem_bond
@sholem_bond 2 года назад
Yeah, I had initially seen him on We're In Hell's video on that "Down to Earth" show, and the clips of him from that make him look kind of pretentious, but it seems like either he was really edited to fit a stereotype there, or the WIH video really mischaracterizes him (then again, he's not in the video that long). I was pleasantly surprised when he talked about Flint, Michigan and how bottled water is a scam. I really wish he'd gone a step further on that and connected the two topics by explicitly saying how beverage companies will actually take people's municipal clean water, bottle it, and sell it back to them (I think Nestle did that in Flint, actually?). But it was great that he's thinking about that, and about water access in general, as well as related ecological issues.
@Mopesil
@Mopesil 2 года назад
@@sholem_bond as someone that watched his Down to Earth episode i must say that is way more a fault of the show itself than of WIH. Down to Earth has this "bourgeois wellness" that makes his argument be mainly about "rarity" and "healing super-properties" (from Olien concept of Superfoods that is the main focous of the show) and never says for example that the problem isn't tap itself but the practice of selling tap as this special kind of water
@static_kitten
@static_kitten 2 года назад
But he does the same thing... mineral water brands exploit the poor areas they are sourced from, harm the environment shipping water thousands of miles instead of the very efficiently sourced and purified tap water and not to mention he actually does try to say the water has the ability to heal or improve tour health when the reality is that you would have to drink it daily to consume enough of the calcium and magnesium in it to benefit because those are the inly benefits. He doesnt actually care because he would recommend a refillable filter to filter tap water and daily multivitamins which are much cheaper than 6 dollar bottles of mineral water every day.
@egg4666
@egg4666 2 года назад
@@static_kitten he did mention filtering water. but now it gets complicated when certain brands do take advantage of that cause each one is different, cause of the location. in terms of healing water, that seems like something that involves the laws of germany so i'm not sure about that.

You can tell this isn’t a health scam because he isn’t trying to push more expensive bottled water and says drinking tap is just fine. He genuinely just wants people to be aware of what they’re drinking and whats in their water
@static_kitten
@static_kitten 2 года назад
it is in fact a health scam sadly. If you look into why mineral water is beneficial its legit the same reason a multivitamin is a health benefit. Hes pushing people to buy overpriced water instead of way healthier and overall cheaper vitamins.

What are you talking about? He put out misinformation about flouride in the drinking water and he's pushing bottled water which we as a society need ot get away from. not to be a downer but there’s definitely political elements. he literally talked about what happened im flint which was a tragedy that was caused because of negligence on the part of government officials which happened in the US only a few years ago. He also talked about how water companies are overvharging and essentially falsely marketing their product to be beneficial when (according to him) they have no benefits which is definitely political. because its a problem that can only be fixed through policy such as in germany, he said that distilled water is marked as not for human consumption. he’s definitely a sweet man and its nice to see someone so passionate about something but its nit just the taste of water he talked about. He also talked about real issues that surround water and ultimately the ways any of these issues would have to be fixed is political

@@luna-p , sensory processing differences in neurodivergency go both ways. We are either hypersensitive or hyposensitive. You are probably HYPERsensitive. You might be bothered by the brightness of the sun or florescent lights. Synthetic perfumes and other strong smells might bother you. You might be able to feel the legs of a mosquito walking on your arm. My mom is ADHD and autistic and hypersensitive. She has all of the sensory experiences that I described above. I am ADHD and autistic and HYPOsensitive. I don't feel the legs of a mosquito walking on me. I usually don't feel it at all until it bites me, and not always right away. I can hardly smell anything. I can't smell cat urine in carpeting, for example. I am hard of hearing and nearsighted. Neurotypicals are average or typical. They're in the middle in terms of human brains and nervous systems. Neurodivergent people divergent from the norm and are on the extremes. You are on the hypersensitivity end of the human nervous system extreme. I am on the hyposensitivity end. I don't know all about the science like he does, but I have some bottled water brands that I can't drink and some that I can only drink. Hell, I feel sick just drinking slightly cooler than room temp water. So for me, I can see where he's coming from, but that is also just based on taste alone. It's actually really fascinating seeing him talk about it all and especially what got him into his love of focusing on water. I can definitely relate since for me, being autistic, that is definitely how it feels having special interests and learning about how things work and all. It's kinda cool and I can't help smiling when I see some of his TV show appearances.

Honestly after watching this video and comments, im happy that i can prove that im not actually crazy. In India some bottled water companies tastes entirely different than the water I have tasted in the Middle East. Many times when I've complained about the taste as a kid and was literally scared to drink any other types of water other than the ones I've been drinking commonly, people around my thought differently and said it tasted the same. So thanks for clearing the mindset of mine and I will definitely choose the water I drink more wisely.

This was actually highly interesting and educational cuz hes not wrong. Distilled water is NOT meant for adult humans, for baby humans and animals distilled is good but your also adding formula with vitamins and minerals in that case. Distilled water has no real benifits.

The video's fun, but it's *really important to clarify* that fluoridating the water supply was a massive public health achievement in the U.S. Far fewer children get cavities here because our tap water is fluoridated, which is *especially* beneficial for low-income households in which parents might not be able to afford regular dental care. It's a different situation throughout Europe, like Martin's native Germany, where many children receive school-based dental care & therefore don't need additional fluoride. tl;dr Fluoride in our tap water is the closest thing to socialized medicine in the U.S. and is, therefore, really fucking cool.
@ktsn4505

Fluoride's great. As someone who is immunodeficient, it makes such a huge difference because dental procedures are hard for me because I have to take courses of antibiotics... so having the fluoride rocks!

I actually learned a lot, I would have never known waters in areas that don't have much rain would be chlorinated. Thank you Martin. And I usually can also taste between different flavors of water, some have a sweeter after-taste and go down smooth and tap water waters feel more harder to swallow.

Yes us Norwegians are very proud of the quality of our water actually. We have been going on about this stuff for years. Whenever we travel anywhere the water quality usually is disappointing. It’s a whole cultural thing here. Martin is just the guy who has made a profession out of it. Which feels oddly validating for my culture.

I am the target audience, water 100% has flavor and texture and I routinely buy fancy spring waters like Fiji as a treat for myself. Water where I live is abundant, tastes so clean and fresh, and I can taste the minerals in the aquifer water in AZ. I'm so excited to see other people talking about their perspective of water and I'm so happy you gave him room to speak!

As someone how lives in the south of Germany, I have to honestly say that this is a common thing here. Me and my friends discus different water brands and there taste difference, as the do have different tastes and also check the mineral labels. I know it sounds weird but Germany has a big culture around the healing properties of water and many springs! It makes me happy as a water lover that you are giving him a platform for him to share his knowledge and information! Really nice video

Honestly I feel like this guy is great! Personally I do understand the “taste of water” thing, but even apart from that, he seems so genuinely passionate about it that I can’t help but get excited over what he’s talking about. Also the fact that this is a SUPER healthy interest to have- I’m used to seeing shelves of bottles like Martin has in the background, but it’s normally some kind of alcohol, but for him, it’s a bunch of water! And that makes me really happy for some reason and I don’t know why
