I don't know how to stop being in love with them. I want to stay friends, but I don't know how to make my brain stop loving them.

I basically broke all the rules. We weren't friends first. We were immediately bf/gf. We also went from bf/gf to friends immediately without a blackout period. The only boundaries we have are physical touch.

Thank you so much from my heart. Just broke up with my ex several days ago, and I just kinda wanted to jump into the "best friend" mode as we were in before we started being a couple. He's been showing interests to a girl and I just get hurt everytime I see them talking. I tried so hard to communicate my feelings with him and discuss our boundaries, but just when I thought I was completely over him, seeing him acting so differently to that girl tears my heart apart. I've asked many friends and seen many videos on the topic of being friends with an ex but all they ever said was "it's not possible". I don't want to lose this friend, so I figured maybe I just need a black out period with him. Thank you for setting my mind on this.

Mine came out to me as lesbian last year in late December. We dated happily for 3 years and were ethically polyamorous. We had a blackout period because we needed our space but since then, we hung out between once - multiple times per week in order to discuss, adapt, grow, and maintain our new bond. Lots of things in our dynamic havent changed, and of course some things have. We still want each other in our lives and have a future together, and that's what matters.

Me and my bf broke up two days ago but tonight I gave him a call and told him everything that was on my chest (things I always held back on telling in the relationship) . Obviously I was upset but I knew this breakup was coming sooner or later literally our one year would’ve been in two days. But since I’ve been preparing myself already it was really simple to bounce back from that. Yes I have love for him but not in love. I see him as a figure in my life that I’ve met and will keep around. I feel that we as people need to be mature and not so bitter to cut someone out of your life that you literally talked to everyday and spent a lot of your time with. Essentially being your best friend.

But the problem was she and I didn’t communicate for a while and she ended up hating me for a bit. We finally had our talk a couple of days ago and i went great! But with me it’s been kind of hard. My ex was my best friend for 2 years before we got together. We were only together for a couple months but I really liked him and always had. We got into an argument because a girl i used to be friends with made up loads of fake rumours to try and break us up and it’s worked. Hate you cameron. My best friend is my ex, to be fair we were only together for 3 months. But he and I are as tight as anything, yes it took me months to get over him but he was always checking in to make sure I was going okay in getting over him. After two years of “black out”, and thanks to the pandemic, I’m back in my home town, and I see my ex a lot. I low key still have so much love for him, and I care for him, but I know he probably doesn’t feel the same towards me. He was actually mean and dry with me at first, but after talking to him, he apologized and we decided to get along with me. For two days,after the talk, he got a little physical, started hugging and standing very close to me, and even inviting himself to shop with me. He stopped afterwards, though, which confused me a lot.. because I forgot for a second that we are just friends.. And now, I’m in this weird phase where at times I remember and miss the good times, and feel the urge to text him every day to ask him about his day, but hold back because I know I’m doing it with romantic feelings. In part it’s my fault for not setting boundaries and not seeing him as just a friend. I just hope one day I can see and talk to him without feeling any sort of romantic feeling. So me and my ex have been on and off a lot for the past couple of months and we really don’t mean for it to be that way. We loved each other and i still do but i am not sure about him. One time he acts like he really loves me and at other he doesnot even care. He doesnot call me for a week and all of a sudden he starts to care. I was very tired and hurt and i finally decided to act like a friend, obviously care about him and i do love him but i decided not to show that love and not to force him to express his love. There was a phase of resentment, but now, almost 2 years later, we’ve both moved on from that and decided that it’s a good idea to be friendly/friends. It is unhealthy to be friends with your ex unless you have spent 10+ years and have kids. You can be civil and greet each other but people misunderstand the whole "friendship with exes". There is no need to keep in touch with your ex on regular bases because it will affect your current relationship even if the new bf is secure enough to handle it.
