Grudge 2 wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Neither was the 2020 film. The only one that was really bad was 3. It could have been decent, but it was direct to DVD fodder. I wish they'd make another one, but I doubt they will. I could see Blumhouse acquiring it, but I don't really want them to reboot or ignore any of the films except for 3. Not that 3 needs to be ignored. It added absolutely nothing to the lore.

When it comes to 3 I take the stance that the filmmakers were just trying too hard to split the difference between the feel of Japanese horror and American horror and ended up alienating both audiences. A difficult task, I don't hold it too hard against them. Had they divorced the family plotline from the Grudge stuff I think it could have been more promising. 2020 was fine. Not overwhelming or underwhelming, just kind of...whelming.

The girl in Grudge 2004 tried burning the house down and it didn’t work. The Grgdge was to be the most OP curse ever! In the Japanese version, running into a person who’s entered the house still curses you. This curse knows no bounds!

What about the real estate agents? How the hell does the house keep getting sold? The policemen? What about servicemen, plumbers, painters etc? What about the moving crews just to get the crap in your new haunted house? The premise is stupid

​@@MaxPower-ke5rq The netflix series Ju-On Origins gives a pretty good explanation, the curse wants to spread as much influence as possible to keep getting people into the house. It never targets the real estate agents because if it did the house would never be sold. It also doesn't target an author because he's basically a walking advertisement of the place. They did change a couple of things from the original story, but it overall is a great watch if you don't mind subtitles.

Actually a little girl managed to survive the onryo for quite some time in one of the old grudge movies, but at the cost of her sanity and constant fear she had to hide her face permanently and never see her own reflection. The grudge was looking in the right places aka around her but struggled to find her

Kayako has suffered horribly before her death but once she became an Onyro it was too late. She’s an extension of the curse which has no mercy no matter what you do. However somehow find a way to get her and Toshio spirits to find peace maybe the only way to stop the curse

From what I understand in the originals (Ju-on, of which there are...I think, four?), though these things have faces, they aren't actually ghosts. They're both (all?) just fragments of the personification of the anger, hatred, fear, etc. The Toshio fragment seemed more like bait to me.

I'm 28 now. I watched the grudge when it first came out. It still gives me terrible night mares, and I shower with my back to the wall so no one can put their hand in my hair. A lot of my friends agree the grudge and the ring reallllyyyyy messed them up.

Same deal here. I watched it (in parts likely) as a kid in the dark of this new house we recently bought (which was coincidentally the premise of this film). It's why this film scared me even as an adult. I got over it after the 3rd rewatch.

Ive always been scared of these movies. When I was a kid, the movie case was enough to terrify me, true, paralyzing terror. I would quickly grab the box and turn it around and put other cases around it so as not to see those horrible, dark black eyes covered by stringy black hair. I couldn't handle the gaze of the movie case. That was without even watching the movie. And I was even a child that loved horror movies. When I got older, I finally watched it. I have always hated these movies.

You will see she is a pretty girl wearing makeup and even the creepy movements she does ate demonstrated to her by the director. After that I now just see her as a girl in makeup.

Since the curse is born from strong negative emotions like rage. Maybe, a dash of positive emotions like love and caring should counteract those negative emotions, thereby , weakening the curse.

It's just my own theory, that even Ghost needs some sort of energy to alter this world, like forming physical form, altering the law of physics, etc, (source : Shin Megami Tensei). It's never ever happen, that Ghost constantly haunt you, 24/7, non stop, and keeps on holding your hand or the likes, was it because they don't want to or because they can't? Without physical body, they spent energy in one of the most non economic way, meaning, they can't just "exist" 24/7, like they can only "burst haunt" you, and hopes you died in like "one set of haunting movelist" or "haunt combo". MOBA Player would understand. Apparently, without physical body to hold those energy, they are like flame, or the sun, some sort, you got it. They keep on leaking energy, to which they have to wait and Refill their energy again before haunting you again, which Will give you time to strategize. So instead of trying to fight the ghost directly or physically, which you obivously sucks at, and tour compatibility is bad, like you use Normal Axe to defeat Normal Sword in Fire Emblem, you should look for a true buddhist Priest, or buddhist exorcist, and I mean the most powerful one, as in they have a great record of exorcising, not the most famous, because sometimes they just got lucky to get coverage. Asks for a literal "guardian spirit", or "guardian amulet" and not just one, a plenty, to the point your full equipment is "holy", to which you turn the compatibility at least from bad, to neutral, and if you're lucky, good and advantegeous, to the point the ghost should be afraid of you, and your gears of Ghost Buster. About that guardian spirit, at least a strong one, like "Amidamaru" or the sort, if it's possible also, do the same to your group, designed to finish this course once and for all, are consisted at least three people with three strong guardian spirit, and never ever ever separate, just in case, they all three decided to gang up on you. So instead of scared of her or him, or them taking your soul, it's better if you wager your own soul, by powering up your own personal "guardian spirit' and attack her "physical body", her house, or her remains, whatever needed, just so she or them lose their "physical body", through which they keep on getting energy from this physical world, which then Will make them, some sort of "bum ghost", you got the point, ghost without their own method of getting energy physically , it's like a rich ghost suddenly kicked out of her mansion, and forced to start from zero again. It might be the rage from any source. Remember the text at the begining doesn't specify the source, just "people dying in the grip of powerful rage" (the grip might be whatever) and later the detective tells Karen, that when people die like that, "sometimes those emotions stay in that place". It's not the people, who are magically transformed into murdering ghosts, it's the house (the place), that keeps those terrible emotions and creates these evil energies, the Onryo ghots. They then take shapes of these, who died there. It fits with the belief, that once you set foot into the house, you're cursed. And what the detective and later Karen tried to do? Burn the house to get rid of the ghosts. See? The emotions might come from the victim, or from the aggressor, from both. It's the house, that accumulates them and makes the Onryo manifest.

Nope, that was just her face like most the time. Unlike any other evil things, Kayako/Onryo ghost doesn't smile as they charge at their victim.

I doubt it. She was so consumed by her sorrow and rage that she defied death itself. She’s constantly running on hate, any facial expressions she gives are of pure hatred for anyone who is unlucky enough to be cursed.

I'm a Christian, and I've read that God will protect us from spiritual evils. But, that's only if you meet 2 requirements. You're an actual Christian, and if you don't tempt the lord. Meaning, you can't look for spirits/magick and expect him to protect you.

A belief in God would likely save a soul from being eaten or obliterated, sending the Righteous to just reward. One would still be killed. However, to cross the path of chaotic spiritual forces that can kill in moments, this invites speculation. In the case of the "Grudge" - there is only temporary escape, then the tainting effect of this suffering will manifest to act with grim purpose.

There are former battlefields that are said to be haunted. People saying they can still hear noises of horses and cries of soldiers when they visit the areas at night. Or see ghosts wearing soldier uniforms wandering around. There's also a Japanese yokai that is caused by blood spilled on battlefields. The blood seeps into the ground and goes into the roots of nearby trees, turning the trees into bloodthirsty yokai trees that kill passerbys with their branches to drink their blood.

You don't necessarily die with "powerful rage" during a war. Probably just fear. Possibly not even that because of adrenaline.
