I answer 911 calls and dispatch first responders on the radio for a living and the principle of “don’t try to help” applies there as well. Pretty simple reasoning when you think about it. It all comes down to accountability. If we’re going to be held accountable for something, we’d rather not have someone making changes/mistakes/decisions on our behalf and then leaving us to answer for them later down the road. Especially when you work somewhere kind of chaotic like a film set or a dispatch center. I’ve seen the same principle apply even in hospital settings and on the music scene. Again, for the same reasons - liability, accountability, and MONEY 😮‍💨 Lol

Even though this was from a while ago, thank you for posting this, I’ve been looking for videos on this kind of makeup artist but all of the videos I’ve found have been for MUAs that are starting their own business but I’ve been wanting to work on a movie/show set since I was in 5th grade. This was really helpful!

Hi, Marie! I am just getting started on working in films. Right now I am only doing make-up for student films, but I would love to know your input about breaking different departments down in more detail, like you said at 8:20. I find your videos extremely helpful! I watched them all and absolutely every single one of them is filled with tons of information. I really appreciate that. Sorry for misspellings, English is not my first (or second) language 😄. Greetings from Romania!

It is really interesting and useful. I'm a film student and going to do makeup on set within few days so that was helpful for me. It's very interesting, here in Israel it's very different, everyone kind of do everything. It's true that student productions are smaller but even my cinematography teacher which worked in the industry both in Israel and at the US says that it's just a different mentality. In the US they once asked him to go on a really tall building just to move a trolly with a monitor for 1 meter, because they don't want to touch his stuff. It's for good and bad of course. I guess the American mentality is more professional but a little less flexible as well, while here people go with the "it'll be alright" mentality.

One no one ever told me: Knock before boarding the makeup trailer. Knock on the door and say "stepping." Stepping onto the trailer ladder. It's about politeness and safety. The moment you step onto the trailer, you're literally shaking the entire trailer, which can at the least ruin application. At the worst, you could hurt an actor getting eye makeup.

@MakeupByShannonMarie
@MakeupByShannonMarie 11 месяцев назад
Hi Charlotte!! Thank you so much! Start with a portfolio, somewhere that people can see your work and see what you can do. Try reaching out to film schools and filmmakers to see if they need a makeup artist for an upcoming project. You might need to volunteer or work for a cheaper rate to build up your book! Try networking with make-up artists that are at your level and a little bit above and ask if you can have a 15 minute informational interview with them to chat about the industry and focus on building relationships, then repeat! :) It does take time to work consistently in this business, but you can absolutely do it!!

Hi i just discovered ur channel through this video and i love it. I always wanted to work in the film industry but it was always filmmaking and producing. However i have recently found a passion for makeup and im thinking of incorporating that to my other passion so film makeup. but i have so many questions. ive always looked into film schools and film programs like USC or UCLA or NYU and im kind of lost right now bc idk where to go and what school to go to like makeup school or film school or is there like a mix of both. Im a sophomore in highschool so i still have some time ahead of me but i still want to be prepared. If you could please just like guide me through that u do t have to make a whole vid i just want a little head start or idea to guide me

Hey Aya! Thanks so much for watching!! I went to a school called Vancouver Film School, they have a bunch of different programs that might be worth looking into! I can't really speak to USC or UCLA but I would recommend that you talk with people in different areas of the industry before you decide your schooling path! Maybe look into some internships or summer programs? Where do you live? Also - feel free to send me an email and we can set up a phone call if you have more questions! shannon.trigger@gmail.com

Film industry seems like alot of ways to get in trouble. Film sets always seem like everyone is on this "high horse" and cast and crew seem like they are above being humble to others. Is this true? I've always wanted to be in the Film industry but afraid I would never see my family alot and I want to feel like I matter and wouldn't want someone on set talking down to me like I'm a piece of trash because they are in a higher position. Are cast send crew on set respectful or is everyone on a high and mighty ego trip?

Hi Timothy! I'm so sorry this wasn't helpful to you. My best tips for breaking into tv/film sets as a makeup artist are: 1. Have a portfolio, somewhere people can see your work and see what you can do. 2. Reach out to film schools and filmmakers to see if they need a makeup artist for an upcoming project. 3. Network with make-up artists that are at your level and a little bit above. 4. Build your rate and your experience. ru-vid.comfAMVTM7Jj6w
