Lee Cowan introduces us to Academy Award-winner Matthew Mungle, one of the greatest make-up special effects men in movie history. Cowan follows Mungle as the artist goes through the process of creating bodies for an episode of "CSI."
Holly crap! I always thought the bodies on the autopsy table were real and went through training and many filming sessions to show that they weren't breathing. And then I thought there was a stage chest they attach it to the actor/actress, cover with makeup, and then they could just tear it open and out pops the intestines and everything else. This just goes to show how crazy stage work really is. I have been fooled for 18 years until this very day! 😱😱😱😱😱
There are some shows and movies where the dead bodies are real people. Obviously not deadlines that would be appalling. These fake bodies cost a lot and for lower budget shows with a lot of death it's sometimes cheaper to hire someone who has a long breath hold.
Prosthetics and practical make-up effects are soo underrated lately. Most of the things are done with CGI nowadays. It's kinda sad, because there are soo many talented artists who can make such wonderful things!
Those CSI dead bodies are amazing. What a talented chap! These guys are a huge part of the suspension of disbelief that makes the movie and tv magic. I think it's a shame they separated out the Oscars for acting and directing versus all the other stuff, it's almost like it's been de-appreciated in the clamour of celebrity.
I've known Matthew since he was a Teen selling his Dental veneers to Doris at Columbia Drugs in Hollywood. He radiated then, with his long curly locks, effervescent smile, loving enthusiasm and impeccable sfx pieces (some of which I still own). He remains to be my Fave SFX Make Up Artist of all time.
Movie makeup artists must be open to schools to have their field trip in one of these. I mean literally this is amazing! Their talents should be given more recognition
+Panda'sGaming She doesn't have to, it's these people's jobs to be able to do realistic blood and makeup, and if they can't do that they can be rightfully chastised for it.
This guy is awesome, he is making great things! Plus also he is so happy and positive, you can see his passion in all he does. I really admire his work and him as a person.
Best part is at the end. ❤ And peeps, I love that HE FREAKING LOVES WHAT HE'S DOING! It has to be great doing the most amazing thing you could possibly imagine as your job. 💪
Having that as a job sounds amazing! It looks awesome to do what he does! I'm a fan of gore and I love watching special effects make up tutorials, but to have that as your job...he's one lucky guy
This is so awesome. I am a production assistant & sometimes we get this guy "Brian" on set who's work is also good & I'm just fascinated by their talent.
This is so cool. I never thought of a male makeup artist like this. Now it makes more sense. Sexuality has nothing to do with hobbies and professions ‼️
I would so love to do this kind of job or an animator- I love tasks that involve creative imagination and hands-on crafting. Like fantasy or sci-fi, it puts you in another reality that makes you wonder & explore!
