I am in med-surg and bedside is NOT for me. Ambulatory/outpatient or OR would be better for me. Aesthetics sounds like a great option. I’m moving to a new city and may consider applying in this field. Please do an update at 2 weeks, one month and three months. Btw, you are gorgeous. Movie star type of beautiful. 😍
This is me I’m 5 months into med surg as a new grad and I’m MISERABLE. Love my coworkers and the floor isn’t always bad, but I don’t think bedside is for me. This is just a random comment, but I’m glad I’m not the only one 😅
Thank you for this! I really resonated with what you said about enjoying not being be scared and stressed for 12 hours! I recently moved from a stressful tele floor to the NICU and it’s been such a great change. It has moments of high intensity But it’s such a relief to not be in a constant panic running around!
That’s so great to hear. I’ve always wondered if NICU would’ve been a great place for me, I always loved taking my patients there. It felt like it’s own world. Best of luck to you 🥰
I’m so happy to have found your page! I’m a new grad here in San Diego county and just started a new grad program. I always knew I wanted to go into aesthetic nursing but I told myself I would first get my year in with bedside nursing just to get those skills and experience down. But being bedside for two months now there’s such a strong pull for me to change my course and go for what I ultimately want. The dread and anxiety doesn’t seem worth it anymore. I want to love my job! Thanks for sharing!!
I completely resonate with your recent journey away from L&D. That was my dream job for as long as I can remember and once I got into after moving across the country… it’s not anything like I expected. I don’t feel like it’s for me. I don’t agree with most of the practices, and I’m just really wanting to not do bedside nursing anymore at this point.I personally have always had a interest in aesthetic nursing and have been passionate about skin care and all the different treatments. Your story is very relatable and inspiring.
I’m so happy to hear that. It is so hospital specific, because my last hospital was great and I felt very comfortable/supported. But after moving here I’m just.. I can’t. It’s so not okay what a lot of hospitals are doing and I know it would burn me out so fast.
Loved this vid!! As a Canadian labour and delivery nurse hoping to become a cosmetic injector in the future - this video gave me hope. The stress and hours of labour delivery is definitely not sustainable. I want to wake up and look forward to my work instead of being stressed and fearful of what the shift may bring.
Oh. My. Gosh. This video was a Godsend for me. I’ve been an ICU nurse for 3 years now and have been working on my resume to apply for aesthetic jobs. You have solidified my belief that I CAN get hired without having to spend an arm and a leg to get trained independently, and that the right employer can invest in me and pay me to get trained! You are an inspiration. I’m so glad that more and more people are sharing how they got into aesthetic nursing. YOU GOT ANOTHER SUBSCRIBER, friend! I couldn’t hit the “Subscribe” button fast enough!
ALSO, I feel like I can finally let go of the guilt I feel for trying to leave my current job….I have gained valuable skills but I am SO excited to turn a new chapter of my career!
This was super helpful! I’m a new grad nurse and I’m on the fence between starting in bedside vs. aesthetics. I don’t like the high stress and anxiety from bedside nursing. But I feel like guilty like I should get my nursing skills at the hospital first, but In my gut I know that’s not really what I wanna do! Applied for an aesthetic nurse position requiring no prior experience! 😃 thank you so much for this video & good luck with all your future endeavors 💕
Omg. Same. I graduate in one week and I have no desire to work at the hospital. I too feel a bit guilty about wanting to jump straight into aesthetic nursing. I think of my mental health and how miserable I was at hospital clinicals and I know that I most definitely will never work bedside. I wish you the best!
@@KaPaoLor congrats 🎉 & same here I hated nursing school and clinical which def made me not want to go bedside. I always felt it was the “tradition” to go straight to bedside but something in my gut just doesn’t feel right about it. I pray and hope everything works out in your favor! Please lmk what you decide! 💕
@@AmyBales I can't even feel anymore girl. I'm depressed at bedside. I know it's not me and I had a problem accepting that. Today was so bad and I want to cry but can't. Seeing this video pop up in my feed helped me more than you know!
So helpful, thank you! I found you a month or 2 ago through your L&D videos. I’ve been an RN for 3 years in a step-down and med-Surg and I’m very burnt out. I’ve always been interested in both aesthetic nursing and mother baby! The week before you announced you were switching to aesthetic nursing I accepted a fellowship position for L&D! So going to give that a try but I’m also still so fascinated by aesthetic nursing so going to keep it in mind for years down the road too. Happy to follow you on your journey!
watching this two years after you posted it… thank you so much for being SO helpful. i’m a senior i’m high school with zero guidance so these videos are so appreciated 😊
I’ve been a nurse for twenty years doing mostly nicu. While I love the babies I have been very interested in aesthetic nursing. I live in Georgia and I don’t see many aesthetic nursing jobs. The ones that I have seen don’t pay as well as my current job either. I have California license so maybe I will start looking for jobs in California. I’m happy I came across your channel. Thanks
Preach girl!!! Preach!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌 I think every nurse needs to hear that again, do what makes you happy! I've been working bedside for seven years and I was miserable!!! Sure it gets slightly better with experience, but it still sucks lol I recently had enough and quit lol I have my first aesthetic interview today 🤞🤞🤞🤞
I've been an L&D/obstetrics nurse for almost 3 years and I just got an aesthetic nursing job! I felt all those things you were feeling about L&D. The stressful environment, working 12 hour days switching between days and nights... it was draining me mentally and emotionally so I decided to finally make a transition and enrolled in aesthetic medicine courses! I start right away I'm sooo excited. Can't wait to follow your journey!! 🤗😍
I graduated from nursing school last year with the intent of not applying to bedside positions because of battles with my mental health. I accepted a primary care clinic RN position in December '21. So far I really like the low stress job and my co-workers. I just do not feel supported by management. We earn so much PDO and management readily denies us time off because they cannot "find us coverage". I decided I am going to remain in my position through the summer, but I am actively seeking other jobs. I am really interested in aesthetics! Worried I may not get hired though because of my lack of bedside experience.
Thanks for being very informative. I’m going to nursing school and I’m not sure if I want to be a labor and delivery nurse or get into something less stressful. And with the construction noise I could hear you just fine!!
Love your positive energy, before I got my bedside job i was actually doing the same research your were doing: typing in medspa near me, aesthetic nurse, Iv hydration but ive come to realize they would most likely require RN and Im an LPN. but I do see these type of places on the rise where im at here in florida. I just know i dont like the anxiety and fear i get from bedside nursing so Im researching other outlets for nursing.
Thank you for such an amazing video. You managed to capture everything that I hate about bedside, versus all nursing jobs. I was an icu nurse during covid, and was destroyed mentally. No more dead people, no more yelling at me, no more fears of killing someone, no more fears of career ending consequences. So I started my training with a private institute near me, one of the best training schools in my province. In bc we have strict aesthetic rules. So finding a job is going to be my biggest challenge, but given that nurses could not inject Botox until the Dayton report came out, I feel I am kind of on the cusp of a new trend. This service is growing exponentially and I need more work-life satisfaction. I feel this is the right move for me, and I am determined to rise above the damage from covid.
Love this video! I recently left the bedside and am interviewing for aesthetic jobs, so very excited for this transition! If there are any specific videos you highly recommend I’d love if you could share them!! Thanks :)
I searched “day in the life of an aesthetic nurse” and “aesthetic nursing tips” on RU-vid and watched all the top results, but I haven’t found anything super great yet. Joanna the Nurse on RU-vid is a great resource as well.
Joanna the Nurse is the best at what she does she’s the only one that has touch my face. She does great injecting and such a great person. Best wishes to you, this is such a great video.
Love this. 20+ year nurse here. Going on #50 and way over bedside nursing. From little town in Ohio and this is not common around here so not sure what to do. Thanks for your info very helpful
It’s really hard in the Midwest because there isn’t as much of a market for it. I’m from Indiana but now in California and it’s much easier here to find this kind of work. I wish you the best of luck finding something better suited to you!
Your video is very useful! I have been a nurse for 20 years and honestly I feel there’s something to learn everyday! I’m just starting to look into this rewarding field of nursing and landed upon your video. Looking to connect more! Thank you
So happy I found this! I’m switching from the PACU and have an opportunity to start an aesthetic nursing role. Only, it’s strictly laser facials. I was torn because I want to become an injector but this would seem like a great role to at least get my foot in the door until I can get trained with injectables elsewhere. Thank you ❤
This was so helpful! Thank you!!!!!!! I have been doing so much research and pretty much found the things you spoke of but you made it all make sense 😂😂😂. You’re so funny by the way! I love your super chill meltdowns over the noise and camera 😂
I am from Indy too. I identify with sooo much that you said. I have been a RN BSN for 10 years I have been a travel RN for the past 4 years. I am burnt out and feel sick all the time. I cry a lot and feel bitter about my career. After watching your video I am ready to draw the line in the sand. I have so many skills and I am passionate about being a great Aesthetic RN. I am ready to chase my dream! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Amy! I can't tell you how helpful this video has been. I've been a an acute care nurse (ER, CVICU, and ambulatory surgery) for 13 years and have always dipped and dabbled in the beauty industry but I'm finally ready to make that 100% leap. I'm in SoCal too, the SFV to be precise but I've just been trying to figure out how to get started because of my critical care background.
it hit me hard when you said your stomach hurt for 12 hours on your shifts. that's literally so relateable!! I find myself needing to go the bathroom so many times because of my anxiety, and my stomach churning. thank you for this video, and now I feel less alone knowing other people feel like they're not a real nurse if they go into aesthetics.
Thank you for sharing this video! I’m hitting my two year mark working bedside on a cardiothoracic surgical unit. Quite frankly, I’ve been feeling like I’m stuck and so unhappy with where I’m at. This video gave me the motivation to start looking for change. Thank you!!
You have some very smart advice and I'm going to take it! I never thought or was confident to email a company but I'm going to try this! Looking for a part time in something more relaxing 😌
This is exactly what I needed! I’m currently a labor and delivery nurse and don’t get me wrong, I do love it, but I want to be in a place where I’m not worried about someone’s life (as much as right now).
I am very glad to watch your video today. I am having really hard situation right now with bedside nursing and I really wanna quit this. I’m kinda frustrated right now. I always wanted to be a aesthetic nurse but didn’t know how to get into this field. Thank you so much and I really would like to connect with you. Please help me 😢
I’m going into nursing and I definitely only want to do ICU then work in as a CRNA and also get Botox training. I love talking to people especially men so I’ll definitely do well as a bedside nurse however, I only plan to do that for 2 years.
I have watched your videos when you L&D nurse and now you have moved to a new nursing career. I am so happy for you. I am a nursing student in my last semester. I worked in med surg as a CNA while going to nursing school. Thank you for sharing. This is so inspiring. My question is that is it possible to work 3 days 12 hours shift at the hospital and look for a part time job as a laser nurse.
This video was literally amazing. Thank you for being so direct and honest about all of your experiences! 🤍 Currently trying to find my path into aesthetic nursing and AWAY from bedside as immediately as possible. Saving lives, running codes, healing the sick is great but the anxiety overtime can just get too overwhelming. It’s time to enjoy being a nurse again 😊
Also do you think medical spas would hire new grad nurses ? I know in school we gain 600+ bedside clinical hours and I know that nursing we do in school at a hospital job isn’t super similar to aesthetic nurses so I wasn’t sure how places feel about new grads. I feel like it is the opportunity for them to take a new person and teach/train them exactly how they want them to work at their med spa .(if that makes sense) but wondering your take on that.
Thank you for this because I want to have a variety of enjoyment under my belt. I’m like you I have to be busy but you have to give me the training because that’s someone’s face you are working on and they will have more questions than an average patient.
Hi Amy , I’m new to your channel . I’m a RN and live in carmel IN. I was so surprised to hear you lived nearby. So my Q is an a nurse with experience in SICU,MICU, step down units . Been thinking about getting training to become an injector. Do you do injections now? Are you loving it ?
Amy, I am a medsurg nurse in indiana. I have no experience as an Aesthetic nurse and am trying to apply for Aesthetic nursing in Indiana. There is only 4 available applications to apply for right now on all of the job sites. Do you have any tips for a follow hoosier?
So in order to start you need a nursing degree for sure do you think it’s worth it if you only want to go for aesthetics ??? And recommend a 4 year right ?
Could you possibly send a Google doc link for a full example of an email you would send ? And maybe attach some sample resumes you found as well that are good references (I see ppl in comments asking about your resume but I know you might not want to include yours but possibly ones you found online that are really good examples).
Currently interested but no skills in actually starting IV's, that's the only thing holding me back from applying. Don't know if they'll train for that.
Hi Amy. Going through my RN career change and seriously looking into Aesthetics. Can you DM the job which you spoke of at 6:17sec into your vid, that gave training and structure. Thanks. 🙏
I have a bachelors in biochem/molecular . I have been doing a lot of the covid testing . But I am interested in NP .. since I already took organic . How can I jump with a bachelors to aesthetics with no experience ?
Hi Amy, what is considered a reasonable low paying job that you think it’s fair considering the employer will be paying for additional training. And is it mandatory to be on videos when you work in this field? Thanks in advance
Hi! Um do you need to have a aesthetician license to be a esthetic nurse? 🥰 also I just moved to Long Beach a few months ago because I started medsurg trauma and I’m so burnt out and I want to really be an esthetic nurse 😭
I’m considering nursing school specifically for cosmetic nursing. I read that it’s hard to find jobs in that field though. I’m not willing to work at a hospital or bedside at all. I live in Los Angeles. Do you guys think it’s worth going to school if I only want this industry? Otherwise, I’ll just go to Cosmetology school, but I’d rather go the nursing route. I have a Bachelors in Accountancy and hate it. I’ve always loved the beauty world
For nursing cosmetics get into an OR and build up your experience then try to apply to a surgeons office. For aesthetics it will really just depend where you live. I feel like there will always be some type of availability but not on the scale of a bedside nurse so it may take some searching. The one thing I would take into consideration is if you don’t end up liking aesthetics and you did that first, you’re kind of stuck bc you don’t have bedside experience but there will still always be a demand
Aesthetic nursing and L&D and psych nursing are my interest of choice. Thankfully I’m starting my pre reqs so I have time to decide. My question for new grads would you recommend working bedside for a year just for the experience or go straight into your specialty?
I don’t recommend ever working in a speciality you don’t like. I did a year in L&D right out of college and even that way too much bedside. I would go straight into your speciality so you don’t have to unlearn things!
Honestly if you know its what you want to do, I say just go for it right after school. You'll advance so much faster and won't learn so many hospital nursing things that aren't relevent.
This was super informative and helpful. Is it possible to become an aesthetic nurse without the nursing degree? I'm starting from ground zero here but the thought of starting college over is such a turn off.
No you can’t be an aesthetic nurse without being a registered nurse first. So you would have to go through nursing school. If you would like to work in a medical spa but not give injectables you could become a certified laser tech or a aesthetician and do facials. If you already have a bachelors degree then look into accelerated BSN programs that’s what I did.
Do you feel like those interviews came more from the jobs you applied to or the Med spa and derm clinic managers that you randomly reached out to? All the jobs I see posted say 1-3 years of injection experience REQUIRED:(
This was soooo helpful to me. I graduate in December, I know better than to go work in an environment that I already know I don’t like, while watching thousands of nurses leave bedside in DRONES -thinking MY experience is somehow going to be different.
What happens after doing your Botox/filler training if you went that route before working? Also how long do you have to be trained/working before working in your own med spa? I’m kind of confused on which step gets you officially certified as an aesthetic nurse?! Lol. Do you have to work alongside someone for a certain period of time or do you just do the training and that’s it? Is there an official exam? Or just certifications? Thank you so much in advance!!!
Wonderful I am Europian MD i was in General Surgery … come in USA i become RN working in PACU i am not happy i got my Certification in Empire Medical For Botox no one hire me… now i am about to continue in Empire and the problem is they give you certification as a RN , but u are not able to purchase product … If anyone can help with idea I appreciate it .
I think as long as you’re an RN you’re able to do it, whether that’s an associates or bachelors. I recommend the bachelors just because I feel like you learn so much in that program but ultimately it depends more what you want to do long term.
