• How To Revive REALLY B...
Headlights turn yellow and cloudy when UV sunlight damages the plastic of the lens. Rubbing oily products or bug sprays onto lenses are only a temporary fix that cause more damage over time. Turn to wet sanding and polishing for permanent professional level headlight cleaning and restoration.
The Chemical Guys Headlight Restoration Kit combines all the sanding sheets, sanding block, compounds, and polish needed to remove the faded dead plastic, then restore crystal-clarity. Clean and restore plastic headlights, foglights, and tail lights with these professional level tools and methods.

Thanks alot buddy, restoring headlights is an art form, it takes alot of work to remove the cataracts from the headlights, it's not nearly as simple as washing or waxing. It's funny, I see at least two to three oxidized headlights a day, and it feels disheartening because some people don't care. I understand though, some people aren't aware that this can be repaired, or they don't have the resources to keep their vehicles well maintained. Chemical Guys Alex -

I followed this method and it worked as expected and looked fantastic. After applying the sealant, and buffed, one of the lights (passenger - 2nd light I did) now has a couple of hazy spots in the corners. Should I re-do the process on that lamp, or just do the compounding / polishing / sealing steps? Thanks!

good video and good job restoring the headlights. What "grit" would the foam pads be rated at if they had grit ratings? I see you used orange and white pads. is there any value to using blue, black or red pads in the restoring process? Thanks
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 3 года назад
Hey! Thanks so much for watching. The Orange Hex-Logic Pad has a medium cut/heavy polish which works well for refining sanding scratches. Then using the White Hex-Logic Pad for a final polish will jewel the surface and restore clarity. The Black, Blue and Red Pads are very soft and are best suited for applying your favorite glaze, sealant, and wax because they offer no cut. - CG Nick

Everyone has an opinion, but no one has done any real testing. Clear coat paint is said to crack or go bad and a bad idea as clear is for metal painted surfaces and not clear plastic. Others say the only way to fix is to sand with multiple grits of sand paper. Yet others claim simple solutions from bug spray to tooth paste to baking soda and WD-40. Someone should get like 20 headlights (all aged the same with the same hazing) and restore each in a particular way and then allow them to sit in the sunlight for 6 months to see which method A.) Did the best job restoring B.) held up the best. THEN I will believe a particular method works.

Hi Edgar, that's a great question. When you polish, you want to Glaze the vehicle to restore a deep intense shine, followed by a sealant, and finally a coat of wax to help protect the paint against scratches, and aids in easier cleaning.

@chemical guys I have a car with only 30,000 miles the headlights aren't fogged but they are pitted from highway driving, also one has what looks to be a hazy looking burnish ring about 5" diameter that has formed on what looks like on the inside on one headlight lens you can only see when its on, so i'd probably have to take apart the headlight assembly to correct it, would i need to put UV protectant on the inside after too?
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hi Static101, a better a idea would be to simply apply two coats of JetSeal. Just wait 20 minutes after buffing off the first application to apply a second a layer. Another tip is to clean and treat your headlights on a regular schedule to ensure they are always enjoying the most protection. These two things are your best bet to protect your headlights from UV rays, both inside and out. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos headed your way soon!
@Static1011
@Static1011 6 лет назад
Chemical Guys Chemical Guys yeah I want to sand the pitting out of the headlight then polish and seal. But for the inside where the hazy ring has formed I'm assuming I'll need to sand that as well and seal. The only thing I'm worried about is if I seal the inside with uv protectant will it need to be sealed again in like 12 months I know these sealers only last like a year tops. And it's a big job to remove my bumper and take out the headlight and open it
@Static1011
@Static1011 6 лет назад
Chemical Guys Update. I wetsanded by hand with 1000, 2000, and 3000 and then used compound then polish. The pitting is gone. However. When the headlight is on its hazy cause there's micro scratches all over it. Are these headlights suppose to look showroom new when done?

Hey Chemical Guys Team, just wanted to let you know that, to this day, this is THE best headlight restoration video I've seen. I use these steps and your products. I've followed the steps on this video to the T and it really does work. The only observations I have are the following, the guy doesn't present himself in the Intro. I'd like to know who is the person showing me the steps. Observation two is, the grit sandpaper he uses on step 2, which he states is 3500 grit, it's nowhere to be found. Most places have 2500, 3000 and then jumps to 5000. I mainly use the 3000 which is good but I'd like to use the right one. Question, will using a 5000 grit work if I don't have/find a 3500 grit? Love all the videos you guys post and hope to hear from you soon.
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys Год назад
Hey Edward! Thanks so much for the awesome feedback!! 3000 grit is great for refining sanding marks as well as light imperfections. We have used 3500 and 3000 grit for final sanding and achieved great results. 5000 grit may be a little too fine for headlight restoration. Happy detailing!! - CG Nick
