the aircraft was NOT taxied with the canopy open as the weight of the head armour would break the restraint cable when bumping along uneven ground. Also, pilots were warned to start with the canopy shut and the port window open and to have their masks on,because of the danger of exhaust fumes getting into the cockpit.

Two things I didn't know about the 109 ... you have to run the engine on low power the same length of time you ran it on high power to fully cool down. Also, when you're running on higher power you have to go ahead and use full throttle to trigger the MW50 boost or you're overheating and under-powering the engine for nothing.

I finally got IL-2 on Steam special for $8! However, I'm a little worried about setting up all of my flight controls for my HOTAS joystick. It's just going to be a learning process and I'll probably spend lots of time just practicing before I even think about combat flight. Great video amongst many other great videos on the subject.

Hi, thanks for this awesome tutorial on the G-14. As a jet jocky from DCS making my first baby steps into the world of prop aircraft this is very helpful :). Can I ask what sensitivity/deadzone settings you use for your rudder? I'm finding my thrustmaster pedals extremely twitchy in the sim making me wobble all over the shop.

Hi, nice to hear that you like the video. I have Crosswind pedals and no deadzone and no sensitivity setup. MY pedal movements go 1:1 into the sim.

dude.. can you tell us how to trim the aircraft when cruising situation. i just struggling to stabilize my aircraft when cuising. u know, my aircraft can't fly straight in cruising situation. whenever i controll my joy stick or just make it idle, my aircraft noise always go down (even on full torttle mode )

Does the cockpit instruments of IL-2 Sturmovik such as altimeter, oil and water temperature show somehow realistic numbers correspond to airplane situation at least to certain degree?

@@SheriffsSimShack thx and is IL-2 Sturmovik easier than Digital Combat Simulator to play with? Although DCS looks more realistic but it looks much more difficult.

Il2 is indeed easier. It's less complex. Some things are automated and the planes in general are just less complex.

@@SheriffsSimShack thx, sounds it suits me. I would like to have realistic instrument gauges and be familiar with them and maybe I could fly one of these old planes one day meanwhile it is impossible to fly F22 for me so why spend so much energy to learn F22 in DCS.

the g14 has the MW50 supercharger, but it doesn't have the same engine as the k-4, right?

Correct. But mw50 is a system which sprays stuff into the sc. Not a supercharger on it's own.

In the 90s it was still common knowledge that the 109 where completely inferior in every aspect to the allied aircrafts. Even the first flight tests after the war by allied pilots concluded that. But mostly because they didn't know how to manage the plane or user their leading edge (attack) slats. Now, after reviewing original material, retesting the planes and the simulation, we have updated our knowledge completely. It was impossible to win in 1944 in a 16 to 1 ratio (according to Adolf Galland) and with novices without experience.

I was, myself, shocked at how profoundly allied test pilots seemed to dislike the 109. I can concede many of their points (the cockpit is archaic and uncomfortable, the short flight range is a real problem etc) but to read their opinions you get the impression that it was a simply terrible aircraft, an assessment that doesn't seem to be born out by the historical record.
