How to bind Lemon Satellite Receiver to Flip32 flight controller

A short video binding the Satellite LemonRx to the Flip32 Flight controller. Steps in text below.
1. Install Chrome
2. Install Cleanflight Chrome app
3. Connect Flip32 to computer
4. In the Configuration tab select Spektrum 1024
5. In the ports tab set UART2 to Serial RX (save)
6. On the Receiver tab select channel map to TAER1234 (save)
7. Go to the CLI tab type "set spektrum_sat_bind=5"
8. Type save
9. After Flip32 reboot disconnect USB
10. Make sure your radio is on and ready to bind
11. Reconnect USB, LemonRx should blink rapidly
12. Select bind on your controller
13. After bound, in Cleanflight app go to the CLI tab type "set spectrum_sat_bind=0"
13. type save
All set.
Other bind numbers:
3 for DSM2 1024/22ms
5 for DSM2 2048/11ms
7 for DSMX 1024/22ms
9 for DSMX 2048/11ms

Awesome video. You are my go to on quads. keep it up. I just ordered the Leader 120, which will be my first add Rx quad. I'm running the original spektrum Dx6i dsm2 transmitter. I'm just hoping I don't get lost in the reciever part of the build.

Thank you. Binding the fist time can be a bit of an adventure, keep at it if it gives you trouble. Its often the sequence or a step that we miss.

thanks for the help. Bc of this i can finally fly my donre. Mine was mostly broken, i wanted to do a new build but i got my FC fixed on the broken one so ehh.. I build about 3 days in total now nd got efverythign finally to work. So i can finally now fly it when i got the new AFHDS 2a module :D Youre the best

Im back uhhh.. well it only blinks a short time now.. and then directly turns back off when given power. BF says something thats its doing something. any help? or maybe its just working but idk

If it’s in binding mode it will continue to blink until it’s bound to the radio or power is cycled

So I've been trying this and failing. I followed your instructions perfectly, but after the receiver is bound to my DX6i, it will not allow me to reconnect to Cleanflight, even when I set it to auto connect. So I can't reset the board to not rebind, and it won't stay bound. I read that on old Flip32 boards, the same serial ports are used for serialrx and USB connection, so you can't do both at once. do you know anything about this?

I don't know about the older boards and the serialrx. Seems off as that sounds like it would be nearly impossible to get a satellite setup. If its true we would need the full receiver to use to bind the satellite then transfer over to the other fc. So when you click "save and reboot" it doesn't reconnect, or unplugging and re plugging in the usb doesn't reconnect? If it stays connected until its unplugged set the bind to 0 then? BTW, I don't use autoconnect. Some boards need the usb to be connected for a few seconds before they will allow the connection to cleanflight. There can be an led that flashes then stops flashing when its ready to click the connect button. Its late here, I am off to bed. Maybe I can help more tomorrow. What flip board do you have and the version?

I got given a drone from my friend (first drone) and I've been trying to bind this to my new controller for hours and hours, I had someone help me out with it and its just so weird it won't blink after the command although it binds to the old controller instantly, I'm trying to bind it to a Jumper T Lite and it wont bind no matter what I do

never used a sat rx but going to on my next build. what i dont understand is why cant i just power the lemon and just bind it to my spektrum like any other rx?

I believe the spectrum satellites need signal to put them in bind mode. There are some redcon branded spectrum satellites that have a bind button, I found the bind button didn't work. :(

Just got a used Flip32 that came with all straight pins already soldered. What would be the best thing to do? Should I desolder UART2 and find a compatible socket to put on? Or could I just remove the pins and direct solder the wires to the board?

Can you send me a link to which flip32 you have? On the readytoflyquads.com site they have several. I typically buy them with the port soldered on. But the key thing to look for is the 3.3v. If anything other than that to the + wire on the satellite will cause it to burn.

I actually just realized there's little tiny straight pins soldered to the satellite UART, and the cable that came with the LemonRX actually slides right into them. The cable isn't color coded like the one in your video, so I guess I'll have to be really careful about polarity. So the UART supplies the 3.3v?

yes, err, well it should. Just be so careful. It actually should be labeled 3.3v next to the pin that supplies the voltage. Its it a true lemonrx? Or one of the redcon dsm satellites?

Hello, love your vids Umm is binding it the same as with the naze 32 rev5? And also what should I use?? (DSMX,DSM2) and what number would i use for DSMX instead of 5

yes, it should be the same. I would use DSMX, better hopping and mixing of channels.

I tried this using a DX4e and a LemonRx DSMX sat on a Flip32 10Dof. The OrangeRX SpekSat I had on it was limited in range (1 antenna) so I wanted to switch to the Lemon (2 antennas) . I have to use "9" as a bind value. Nothing blinks at all on the LemonRx Sat using the Github doc recommended value of 8. It binds ok using value 9 but the channel mapping is all over the place. I tried to reconfigure it using "map" command in CLI but that makes it worse as some channels don't even respond. What am I doing wrong? The process works fine going back to the OrangeRx, the channels are all correct in the receiver tab on CleanFlight.

Am I stuck having to bind the DSMX lemon with a DSMX main Rx first?

Thats a tough one. I have seen when using the wrong bind value and spektrum value (1024, 2048) some channels are on the wrong mapping and other don't respond. I suspect we have to try different bind and spektrum values. I don't think the receiver is damaged, just needs different values.

Did you ever figure this out? I helped a friend setup his quad with a DSMX satellite and it did the same thing. After almost ripping my hair out I finally figured out he had an old school Dx6i which was dsm2 and not dsmx. I grabbed my DX6 which is DSMX and it worked fine. I'm pretty sure that the DX4e your using is DSM2. The newer TX can use DSM2 or DSMX but the older TX its DSM2 only.

I don't have that board, generally signal is rx and then we have to have the proper uart on/active in betaflight and select the proper communication protocol on the configuration page of betaflight. In your case I suspect it to be dsm or dsmx.

Hi nick, are the cli bind Information the same for Betaflight? tried the whole weekend to bind the lemon to the f3evo board,my nerven are down😣

Yes, it is the same. I actually have bound more through betaflight than cleanflight. Might try holding the antenna of the devo closer to the receiver. Also after typing the cli command unplug and replug in the usb port but don't let cleanflight connect (disable auto connect in cleanflight). If cleanflight auto connects is often resets the bind command.

Also, are you getting the red led light activity? Slow light, then fast blink, hit the bind on the devo then light goes out, then comes back on solid?

i use same step.. but my receiver only blink once on first powered in usb. ( only blink once ) WHY? can you help me?

Using cleanflight or betaflight? I presume you use the set spektrum_sat_bind = 5 or nother number and save in cleanflight? What flight controller? If F3 FC is power from satellite connected to a 3.3v pad and signal to the rx on uart 3? UART3 serial on and serial_rx set? Then 1024 or 2048?

Nick Burns i'm using dsm2 22ms i set to spektrum_sat_bind = 5 , but when i plugoutThe USB and plug in again The receiver is only once blink and No signal :(

hmm. When you type in the spektrum_sat_bind=5 and hit enter do you also type "save" and hit enter again. And at this point in the receiver plugged in or not. It should not be plugged in while entering the cli commands. After you do type the cli commands, disconnect usb (no power) plug in the satellite, but do not connect to cleanflight or betaflight (uncheck auto connect). The receiver should quickly flash and you can bind to your controller. If no quick flash check the other steps of cleanflight/betaflight setup for a satellite and double check your wiring. Also be sure it is only being powered by 3.3v, check the flight controller manual for a 3.3v solder pad, unless you have a spektrum satellite port on the flight controller, in that case it should be fine.

this all because the flight controller, i use flip 32 f4 and this fc ca'nt support binding mode on cleanflight/ betaflight. But yesterday i using my old SP racing f3 and binding in this fc.. when binding complete i use the sat RX on the my flip 32 f4 and magicly it's work!...

that's interesting. I was aware the naze 32 rev 6 can't bind a lemonrx satellite, but not this one. I do keep an extra flight controller around for just this purpose.

When I plug the 3 pin cable from my flight controller into the Receiver the red LED blinks once and then goes out and does not come back on. No matter what bind mode I put my receiver in the LED still refuses to light at all. I hoked up my volt meter and the plug registers at 3.4 volts. I am using a BBB32 and clean flight v1.2.2 Anyone got any ideas?

leave the receiver connected and set the bind mode in the cli. Disconnect from computer plug in battery and attempt to bind. I have had to do it this way as well. I have even seen where after it binds the the value for the bind mode is set back to 0.

That is the number of channels the receiver and protocol have.

@@zico3239 Its been a while since I have used spektrum. Doing some quick looking I can't find anything definitive. I wonder if it depends what its being connected to? I have flown a plane or heli is many years, wondering if some of the other videos are binding to that sort control and therefore has some difference.

hello nick I am still trying to figure out how to make the tarot 130x fly with my spektrum DX8 could I use this ?www.horizonhobby.com/spektrum-dsmx-quad-race-receiver-with-diversity-p-spm4648if so could you please make me a short video of how to do that I don't understand any of the sbus ppm stuff at all .and if I need to cut wires show me what goes where to make it plug and play if possible . That receiver won't work, we need something that does ppm or cppm or sbus. The receiver should say that in the description.
