Thanks for the comment, Mate! I need to come to Australia one day considering my last name. The former head professional at my course here in Mobile, Alabama is from Brisbane. He thinks I would have no problem getting a beer or two there!

In stableford scoring. Having a zero point hole restricts scoring. So for a 19 hcapper on hole index 1 par 4 4 for 4 5 for 3 6 for 2 7 for 1 Out =0.

Thanks Michael for this video! I think I’ll engrain “Putt for Par” in my brain. I’m going to try it out on my round in a few hours. Hopefully it should work. 😊

Well unfortunately it didn't (103). I would say the majority of the time I was putting for par (12 holes, some of those were putting off the green). I putted 36 strokes (I like to do no worse than that). I think the problem was the putts for par, were long putts and I didn't have the feel for the round to get the putts close to the hole for tap ins. My previous mindset was to don't worry about making the 1st putt and get it close to the hole for a tap in. The putt for par mindset seemed to be putting a lot of pressure on me to make these long putts, being that I use my 1 extra stroke per hole (to play bogey golf) just trying to get to the green since I am not a distance player. I will try again on Wednesday as I think it's a good mindset! Thanks again!
@BrisGolf
@BrisGolf 9 месяцев назад
You are not trying to make the long putts for par. You should pay attention to speed to roll them the correct distance, leaving a easy bogey putt.

Nice presentation. You made just a few minor mis-hits off the tee. The rest of your shots, especially the short game was pretty much right on. The high handicapper tends to chunk or thin some of those. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.

problem is with golfers like me trying to break 100 or 90 consistently, there always seems to be those unexpected and totally wasted shots , ( like hitting the ball fat or thin) , then the anxiety builds and snowballs......that part of game management is what I most like to know how to avoid .......thanks
@BrisGolf
@BrisGolf Год назад
Thanks for the comment. You don't have to over come a bad shot. You need to stay calm and stick to the game plan. A double bogey doesn't kill you. especially when trying to break 90. Keep working hard!

One word, accuracy......... don't try to blast the ball as far as you can, play safe and smart, keep it out of the rough, try to avoid bunkers, if you think you can hit for example a drive and 5 iron on to a par 4, why bother risking it - - - - 7 iron, 7 iron, 7 iron, maybe 1 putt or at most 2, walk off with either 4 or 5.

In golf we never talk about fairway bunkers. 😂 If that is what your brain is focused on while standing on the tee box, that is exactly where you are going😢

I am on that "want to break 90 all the time " spot. HC per Hole19 is 18.5 over my last 10/20 rounds. Broke 90 5 of them. My 3 biggest hold backs 1) concentration, slowing myself down 2) Alignment, for some reason I feel aligned-hit the ball straight, and I am 30 yards right on 150 yard shot 3) Distance with 205 driver and 90 yard PW can't hit a 3w so my next club is 5w at 175 so little room for bad shots. So back to issue 1) Concentration!!!

I wrote a booklet (yet unpublished) about Breaking 100. I'm a 20 handicap player and always trying to break 90. You are are spot on in your instruction. I emphasize that distance is not the primary concern at this level. If you can just hit the ball 100-125-yds, you will be on or near most par 4 holes. Concentrate on the par 3's which you'll be on or near in one shot. Spend a lot of time on chipping and putting where distance control is key. And use the 27 extra shots you get wisely by avoiding the trouble- as you clearly point out. Nice job!!

Good instructions! 😊 It seems like the young high hcp guys who play golf about once per month, always play from the farthest tee boxes. I guess they want to get their moneys-worth. On the first tee, they swing their driver head extra fast and hit a push into the trees. Then they pitch out too far or fat it short. Then they lose patience and play a high skill shot into the green, hoping to get lucky, usually missing the green short. Then they take the most difficult club to chip up, a lob wedge, and hit more turf than ball. Then then they don't understand the value of well struck lag putts and move their head before they complete their putting stroke and end up three putting for a triple-bogie 7. How do I know? I know this because I've done this many times.
