I have uploaded this video to make you aware of one of the shortcomings of an otherwise really good van! I suspect that this is also the case on caravelles. The vandal didn't even steal anything, they just took a look inside!

Back in the day there were companies selling weld-in amour plate kits for all sorts of vehicles to stop this kind of thing. I thought it sad that car manufacturers were so slack with security that there could be a market for such things. Forchristsake I could get into my mk1 Fiesta in 10 seconds. That included bending the coat-hanger!

I agree. I was really disappointed when I saw it. They broke it and didn’t steal anything. They would have been better breaking the window because that is a cheap job to replace. But the door is expensive. Even second hand. After the fact I checked out those weld on plates. They don’t have them for this model anymore.

This happened to a friend of mine once. After he showed me, I fitted 2 barrel bolts inside. So they can get in with this little trick. I know it will not stop them but it makes a little bit more difficult. :)

I fitted some steel inside so it couldn't be broken into in the same way again. Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted!

The title really is a How To invitation rather than a warning. Of course people know how to do this already but you have just informed a new batch of thieves. I found this vid looking for spare parts. If I had such low- life intentions you might have just informed me how to get hold of them without buying them.

You might be right, but I prefer to think that I am sharing my misfortune with other T4 owners so that they will know that this flaw exists. On one hand I am grateful to this thief for breaking in this way rather than using a rock and smashing a window, at least this way the repair is easy for me and free, given that they didn't steal anything! If youtube is recommending this to other T4 owners then that is good. The comments seem to suggest that it is, but then again maybe prospective thieves wouldn't comment.

Bootowen golf1.2.3 polo6n corrado scirocco passat ibiza, lt mercedes vito sprinter porsche 911. can all be cracked this way. best tip of all do not keep valuables in the car. armor doorplates can be mounted for the polo and golf.

Sorry for your trouble...The last time I cycled around rural Ireland (Clare) I was told I did not need to lock my bike, I did anyway. I am hoping none of the wasters around Ayrshire are not inspired by your vid.

The wasters already know all of these tricks! I just hope this video helps the owners, if I had known, I would have reinforced the back of the lock with a bit of metal, as I have done now.

Pretty mad, just come to see how to remove a lock, but can't get a key in it. I could get a BBQ skewer in though and raked it in about 8 seconds, defo not that hot on security!

That is crazy, just raked the keyhole? I wonder why they had to poke a hole in my van?

I might have a barrel issue, half a key left in from prev owner or snapped barrel I think :) How are you getting that pin out, outwards away from mechanism or inwards towards metal lever? It looks like it wants to go inwards but there's no clearance. Obvs putting a key in isn't going to work for me unless I snap one myself!

@@johnselekta johnselekta If it is the one you raked already then rake it again and take the two screws out at the side. If not then i think you have to nudge the pin upwards.

@@bootsowen Ahaa the screws. That will be it! Thanks mate. btw did my alternator belt and just set timing right after obsessively watching you do it for a few months :D She's running ace and not screaming like a banshee now. Cheers dude.

This happened few months ago to my t4 camper but the bastard smashed the tinted side window because he couldn't get in. Check out my channel there is a vid on there with damage

Hi Buddy, i saw your vid, sucks alright! For me they didn't even take anything, and it isn't worth doing a "good" job to fix it for me. I just put a bit of metal in behind it and used some torx screws to hold it. Might stop it happening again or they will just do the window like on yours. Nice world! Anywards, did you get on the road?

If you have a T4 van or a caravelle as I did you might appreciate to know that this can happen, and if you put a metal plate behind it it will stop it. You are probably asking because you think thieves will use this, but thieves already know these tricks, owners are the ones who don't! Thanks for your comment!
