I am building a 20x30 shop that has 10 foot tall walls. To build a basic wall I am using 2x4's for studs. fire blocking is installed at the 4 and 8 foot marks to also allow for sheathing attachment. The basic wall build is the easiest out of the walls. I am including a California corner in this wall so that I can install my interior sheathing.

Well done. A trick for standing up stud walls is to attach 2 or 3 scraps to the rim joist so that the bottom plate can't slide off the deck.

Good point. I do that with the gable end trusses for sure! The walls were not too bad to move around because I built them at 10 feet long.

Thank you for watching. It is so nice to have youtube to see various ways people build. This shop is a 20x30. Rather large.

I recommend using wall jacks. You can lift a complete wall with them.

It has worked very well. Also not too bad to drill through for wire.

Great videos! I like to measure for my blocking down at the plate in case the studs are bowed one way or the other in the middle.

Now that is a good tip. Thank you. I will keep that in mind for the next place I build. Thanks.

It makes it easier to install without a nail gun.

Does the California corner make running electrical wires around corners more difficult?
@sethcraftworkshop

The corner has a 1.5" gap behind that allows space for electrical. There are two boards that have to be drilled through on the corner but that should not be an issue for most bits.

Why 4”? Wouldn’t it be 3” as you’re measuring from the bottom plate to the top plate? So 1.5” for the bottom plate + 1.5” for the top plate. Making the studs 9’.9” and totaling 10’?

Because I'm using 3/4 inch treated plywood for the floor I cut it at 4 inches and that gives a quarter inch overhang passed the floor for sheathing on the outside.
