If you want to learn how to build your own hanging bed swing for a porch, deck, or tree, this step-by-step video will give you the plans and process to get it done! This wooden bed swing was built entirely by me for under $200 for all supplies including the mattress. I go through each step, including reinforcing the ceiling joists, from start to finish. If you have a large porch area or want to design and hang a swing from under your deck, I think this build is a great choice and looks SO good.

Hey, i kinda like that you are learning as you go along. Great projects! I’d love to see you adopting the use of personal protective equipment to protect yourself against injury. You and your patrons will benefit greatly. Eye, ear and respiratory protection when using your saw at least. Sandals are cute but if you drop something on your foot you will know it! Be safe👍🏻

i thought i was alone in this. when she used that circular saw with shorts on with cute sandal's i get a flash back in my contrator days when a newb cut his main artery because of a unloading truck pulling on his power cord during mid cut. ekkk!

I agree - I think everyone is free to choose what PPE they do or don't use on their own time, but when you're putting what are essentially instructional videos out into the world you should use the opportunity to set an example. Those sandals won't look so cute with 4 toes.

I love your videos Melissa. I just found you and joined, and can't stress enough - you are so talented. I have watched several of your videos, but I will say, several times held my breath watching you hold the wood on your chop saw with your opposite hand, and cutting without safety glasses. I have had several chunks of wood fly up and hit me while using my chop saw, and without my eye pro, I would have lost an eye. Please be careful. We all want to see more of your videos!

im in awe of your abilities to learn and proceed. I keep telling my wife "you are a lot like her (as i point at you while we watch your videos) why cant you learn like her?" she looks at me and says "she probably got trained." i look back while pointing at my face "what do i look like chop liver?" lol i told her i can train her in woodworking. but for some reason my teaching credcredentials dont hold water in our marriage lol.. love you babe if you happen to read this comment

Great work. A few tips. Next time you can get a longer jigsaw blade from bosch. When sanding plywood, don't go lower than 120 grit sandpaper because the outside layer on both sides of plywood is very thin. For wood putty you can use a plastic or metal putty knife. That will make you work faster. Also, a palm router with a roundover bit will help you get the smooth edges you wanted in a lot less time. Considering the end result I must say I'm impressed. Regards from Costa Rica.

Another little trick is to put tape around the rope we are going to cut it before you cut it and then cut through the middle of the tape that will keep it from fraying as well when I always burn it at the end too but it’s good for the cutting process or if you have to stick it through a whole. I’m so glad you made this video I have my futon out on my patio and I was thinking about hanging it up which would be a lot easier than yours but mine is kind of ghetto and I was looking for a porch swing bed and nobody else has done it so yeah I’m glad I found this video and I’m glad you actually did This and brought it to fruition😁👌🏻😍
@jameswars7533
@jameswars7533 3 года назад
Love the project. When burning your ropes, next time try wrapping the end with tape just short of where you are burning. It keeps the rope contained when you cut it and makes the process slightly easier. Once again, i love this project. Keep up the good work.

Sometimes answers to problems are so simple that you don't see them. I have a back porch with a roof made with 6X2 trusses and I was concerned about hanging the bed from them (we're large people). Your simple idea of reinforcing the trusses is so obvious that I didn't even see it. Thank you for solving my problem!

All this good work. A great looking finished product and a lot of the comments are more about PPE. As a Carpenter of 40 years and 60 years old I haven't and still don't wear PPE and my offsider is a bare foot bush man and as old as me. The World is such a different place these days so many people telling you what to do. If you are comfortable in the gear you wear so be it. If others want to dress up like Darth Vader to put a screw in go for it. Nice to see a lovely lady taking on such products and doing a professional job with or without PPE.

never mind the table im worried about her toes! lol last time i worked with my slippers on i almost lost the big toe on my right foot. also when she cuts the big logs with no eye protection reminds me of the time i almost lost my eye fixing my fencing.. i think she will soon realize what all these concerns are backed by experience. when you are good at what you do its often hard to listen to good advice.

Wanted to say that your "heavy duty clamps made for rope", are actually made for wire rope or cable. The "tag" end of your loop should be under the u-bolt and the load side of the loop run thru the "saddle". BTW, you are mesmerizing to watch and listen to. Keep up the great work.

A tip for you when cutting nylon rope - wrap your cut line with electrical insulation tape first and then cut and burn. This will maintain a much cleaner cut after burning.

Great video, however I have to say from what it looks like you'd be much more comfortable working on a big table than on the ground. Of course this is a preference, but working on the ground generally stinks. You might consider building a collapsible 4'x8' table to do your projects on. I think you'd be much more comfortable. Keep up the good work!

Just a small point about nylon rope. It stretches, especially when it gets wet. I've pulled 150 feet out of an original 50-ft length of nylon. If stretch might be, or become, an issue, check with a nautical supply store for polyester or Dacron line in any color of the rainbow. You get all the same characteristics of nylon without any stretch.
