Thanks for tuning in! I hope you enjoy this video. I wanted to see how budget-friendly I could be while creating an inexpensive desk, and this is the best I could come up with for now. I have also created plans, so check them out here diycreators.gumroad.com/l/40dollardesk

I've already told you I very much enjoy ur videos!! THIS video came at the right time!! I'm in need of a sewing table, not wanting to spend a lot of money (LOL) my husband had convenieced me to clean off several concrete blocks in the back yard and we would get a piece of wood for the top!! A solid piece of wood alone was going to cost close to a hundred bucks!! Neither of us "really" knowing how to work with wood (all that I do know I've learned from you) his idea, was going to be the only choice I had!! Now with this video and plans I can get from ur web - I myself can do this!! FOR LESS MONEY!!!! Without using the tilted saw (for the sides of desk) I could put two straight pieces in there, right? We have the saw that u cut the rest of the wood with. Oh I don't have the piece that makes hidden screw holes - but that's ok!! I have stain and varnish left from an old project!! Thank you thank you so very much!!!

Always impressive! So many clever touches in this video, up to and including splitting the window in two during the sponsor segment. With the build continuing in one window, and the segment running in the other, we get the sponsor's message without any break in the action. Elegant and seamless. Great job, Glen!

I clicked on this video hoping to save some money on furniture and I got exactly what I was looking for. The host's detailed instructions and affordable materials list made it seem like building a desk was within reach for anyone. It's inspired me to get creative and tackle more DIY projects around the house.

Desk looks good. Best way to mate the 2 halves together is push them against each other, clamp them down and run the skil saw along the join - then they will be exactly parallel and should be a perfect join.
@darkviris
@darkviris 5 месяцев назад
Interesting thought for getting a perfect join. Both pieces receive the same cut one on each side of the blad in this manner. Do you have experience here as I haven't seen that done anywhere? I am wondering on the safety of execution in this manner.
@josephmackseeya2893
@josephmackseeya2893 5 месяцев назад
@@darkvirisI tried it out and it worked great! The key to remember which I should have thought of it before I did it is to clamp them to the work surface and not to each other. I made that mistake and had a scary kickback.
@waynerowe8477
@waynerowe8477 3 месяца назад
@@darkvirisI came here to ask something similar. I’m so glad the hive think responded. Kickback did not come across my mind until I read your comment. As below said, I think clamping to the base or as glen said, a table saw would be the options. To your question though, there are a few vids on long side joinery like this.

Love your videos. Clear and easy to follow. This is a great desk. One tip to make your life a little easier joining up the top. If you have it close and just want to match your joint perfectly, push the two pieces together and take your saw and "cut" the joint. Try to get your blade half on each piece, in a single pass. That way even if your blade is slightly off 90, they'll match perfectly.
@thenext9537
@thenext9537 6 месяцев назад
If I'm trying to rip a glue seam, I put them both together and have light clamping to allow kirf to pass through. Then I just rip down the seam and they will be as close as you can get without a jointer or trying to jig it up on a tablesaw. I have planers, jointers, tablesaws (yes plural) but I love trying to make things work otherwise. For example, I had a bunch of walnut, and I really didn't want to have to power up all the things so I just pulled out track saw, a doweling jig and did it that way. A little bit of sanding and it was fine, and it was fun. Easy to just run things through jointer, planer and domino it all (I don't have a domino, that's still a crazy expensive tool!) but doing it by hand can work as well too. Also, that ODyn straight edge is fire. Never saw that before! I Want one now. I have a johnson 8 footer but that odyn looks cooler.

Nice project, well done! Have used your technique @2:52 many times - with the exception of alternating the pocket screws so each side gets support from the screw. Yes more screws are used but I’ve found the result much stronger and less prone to warpage- especially with the size wood being used. Keep up the great projects and take care. Thanks

So this came in handy, because all of the replacement legs on Amazon and at retail stores are $40 and above for 4 straight legs.
