Cameron Markin has been honing his DIY skills for quite some time.
He makes obstacles out in the streets, fixes popular spots, and gets creative by adding to already existing obstacles. When Covid and lockdowns hit, Cameron focused on his new project, Rainbow Rails, custom-made rails, pole-jams and flat bars for friends and now the public via his Instagram account.
When G-Shock set us the challenge of incorporating their products into a project to show how tough they are, we knew the grit and grind of making DIY skate obstacles was the perfect fit. Where does skateboarding begin for most young kids? In the driveway, at home, any piece of flat ground you can find. I think it’s fair to say that most if not all skaters would appreciate a mini or quarter in their driveway, backyard, or at a friends house, so we decided to focus on how to build a concrete quarter pipe, and guess what, it’s surprisingly budget-friendly and with the help of lending a few power tools you’ll be skating your own quarter pipe in no time.
Get your hands on an indestructible G-Shock watch or read the full article here.

I’m a skilled tradesmen and have built wood and concrete ramps. This explanation and how you broke it down was beautiful. Absolutely a great video. Natural at teaching

Agree 100% on year four of building (backyard bowl and a public DIY skatepark)…I am going to save this so I can send it out to the local kids (New Mexico USA)

This is the best video on diy concrete I’ve found by far. I had a 6 foot wooden quarter growing up but with timber prices so high and how they only last so long I gave up on the dream of my own backyard mini. But I’m definitely going the concrete route for sure, this videos given me a lot more confidence. Ill just use large rock in place of the foam. The dream of a 3ft tall by 8ft wide mini surrounded by gardens is still alive!

Damn, comments say it all. I've been skating for 30+ years, construction for 15 yrs and a building inspector for 10 yrs. I'd have to see the drawings but from a distance, or if it was close to lunchtime and I was in a hurry, I'd pass this. Proper spacing - ✔ Correct rebar size - ✔ Clean form - ✔ Mix design - close enough Not sure about that foam, soil is pretty cheap.

This is a great presentation of the essentials for DIY concrete. Couple tips for people attempting similar project. Chainlink fence fabric may be easier to acquire than this traditional mesh. It also easily bends to a transition. As another commenter mentioned, a concrete truck will bring a cubic yard for around $100.. Will save a lot in backbreaking labor transporting the bags and mixing. Have the truck dump right into your wheelbarrow and roll concrete to place. Fill material can be anything- gravel, dirt, bricks, rocks. Doesn't have to be styrofoam.

i was going to try turkey wire for rebar if i cant get any mesh from the job.i hate messing with that shit

Thank you bro. I am learning as much as I can before starting my dream work of art this spring/summer...a small concrete backyard diy spot with at least a half bowl in my design. Sure the wife doesn't know yet but the concrete mixer is already ordered. Forgiveness, never permission.

Saw cut the floor and pour the concrete all the way down and trowel the upper part of the tranny also 😂 dont know what he did to the top part but it looks like shit. Diy is no excuse to not to trowel. It takes 10minutes max

@@Mestarikuumottajawhat do you mean by saw cut the floor? like just cut into it so the concrete adheres better?

The tip with the rapid set to feather finish is great if you don’t want to cut the slab it’s on! We use “allcrete rapid set” to set pool coping too! Skating our pocket for 3 years and not even a crack in it

@@oliewray8357learning how to properly pour concrete is pointless? that's a weird take, if you have any chance to gain some experience (and make a couple bucks) you should take it. Burnside and any other good diy parks had input from people who do concrete for a living

Call a concrete truck, order 1 cubic metre of curb and gutter mix. Give a quick sprinkle with water can to get a perfect finish with the steel trowel. Stick a few off cuts of Rio in the bottom part so the grout dosent break off. Put some pool tiles up top for a coping👍
@pukeyloww5279
@pukeyloww5279 9 месяцев назад
what is rio?
@bumrodgers
@bumrodgers 7 месяцев назад
@@pukeyloww5279I'm pretty sure it's rebar. Basically, any time you're connecting new concrete to old, or in this case partially dried concrete to a big hunk of rapid set it helps to tie them together with rebar so they don't crack away from each other over time. Usually, the rebar (or in this case mesh) that's used in the ramp is extended out a bit so new pours can be tied in. The commenter is suggesting just pushing in some cuts of rebar into the bottom edge of the concrete and then pouring the rapid. It's not a bad idea.
