I fast every week for 48 hours from Sunday night to Tuesday Night. During this time, I consume only water. On all other days, I stick to a meal once in a day (dinner) with just coffee or tea (with milk and sugar) during the day time. So far, this routine has worked wonders in my life. I do not consider myself 'strong-willed'. Unlike other fasting and exercise where you have to do something to be healthy, here, you don't have to do anything to remain healthy. I am not advocating against exercise, but exercise just wasn't reducing my weight. Edit: It looks like people haven't read through my comment properly. I am not against exercise. However, the gains from doing it, if you are OBESE, is negligible considering the effort. First bring your weight down to overweight, and then consider taking up exercise. Edit 2: Right now my goal is to be healthy. I am less strict with my diet (two protein rich vegetarian meals a day, 36 hour fasting every week) and I cycle and run almost on a daily basis.
@Hippy2021
@Hippy2021 2 года назад
Of course, exercise can make you eat more. It's healthy in a way to keep your body moving and you should combine it with your fasting to optimize your health. Exercise is also critical for longevity. To build a home you need more things than just cement

@@jenniferanthony5283 12 pounds for 19 day fast-that’s awesome! I make big batches of homemade beef & poultry broth myself. I’m currently reading Dr. Fung’s book Complete Guide to Fasting and in it he says there are no essential nutrients in carbohydrates (fruits & veggies are carbohydrates too) so you will never run into a carbohydrate deficiency; but you must have protein and fat! Something I knew from all my research. Meat is very nutrient dense and just feeds your body properly. I do not miss carbs or sugar; I LOVE what I eat and I can go longer without eating because of how satiating it is. I can do pull-ups for the first time in my life (I’m a 55 y/o woman) and I can outlast my 22 & 19 y/o stamina & strength wise. My arthritis, inflammation, skin rashes, boils & digestive issues have also disappeared. My BP is normal, too. I was pre-diabetic but no more. Can’t recommend carnivore enough! I need to get a hip replacement and my dr wouldn’t give me the operation until I lost 25 lbs. The dr now said ok for the operation. The pain causes me to keep to IF. Love these tips and love Dr. Fung. I've been doing intermittent fasting the correct way since mid Nov 2021 , along with a full fasting day and I've lost close to 20 lbs. The key really has been to not snack. I'd been intermittent fasting for over a year prior to discovering Dr. Fung and hadn't lost any weight. In fact, I picked up the COVID "19 lbs". Now I eat more calories, do 2 balanced meals a day (this just works with my schedule) and cut out all snacking. Sometimes I'll save my "snacks" to eat just before or after my meal. I don't feel food deprived and I'm considering this a lifestyle change. Most importantly, it's one that I can sustain without worrying about counting calories or avoiding favorite foods. Another big plus that I'm seeing on my smart scale is improvement in body fat (decreased) and increase in muscle mass and my BMI has hit a healthy range. I'm monitoring bone density as well. Yes, weightless was my #1 priority, but I've shifted that to overall optimal body composition for my age and body frame....a much healthier mindset.

I designate one day per week as "feast day" and have anything I want for dinner, no holds barred. I generally do two 40-hour fasts per week-- one of them right after feast day. I almost never eat after 8pm and never before noon -- I want my main meal, the evening meal, finished 3 hours or more before going to bed. So at LEAST a 16-hour fast every day. Sometimes I do OMAD. It all depends on how I feel. This routine has been working well for me for several years -- during the first year of which I dropped 40+ lbs. I train on average of 1-2 hours 6 days a week and find no lack of energy on fasting days. That's my scene. If it helps anybody, cool.

The 1970s also had vastly less fructose in our diet. I remember, because I was there. Raw hamburger from the local butcher shop or grocery store didn’t have a warning label, because it wasn’t dangerous to handle or eat. Fasting works fine, but let us not forget WHY it is necessary. The food we eat, and what is in it. Routines are definitely one of the most powerful tools. Like every other weekend, Friday morning weigh in. Don’t make my target weight? Hi, I have 4 hour eating period, approx 4 PM to 8 PM Tuesday to Sunday and a 48 hour fast through Monday. It is very flexible. I change days and eating window as needed. I still eat one day's worth of food in my window. Eating is so enjoyable again after 20 years of failed calorie restriction!! And I stick to my healthy 160 lb weight. Life is great!!

Thank you, Dr Fung. You have been appreciated over the months. I've been stuck, by perhaps going too deep into it with the information given on various Drs' channels on here, and not losing (post-menopausal, 5'2", age 53, about a stone-and-a-half to lose still); but this video has helped me step back out and look at the long-term overview, the bigger general picture. This really helps with motivation.

Thanks Dr. Fung! Information is so timely. I started IF24hr...in Dec 2021, now down 30lbs. After holidays, I realized slight weight gain because I wasn't on a routine. Thanks for clarity! I'm back in the game.

I like Fung like I don't normally see myself as someone who likes to get into the science of things but that's where I find myself in most things it just makes it easier to do things when it makes sense in your head like knowing that controlling how the hormones in your body affect your body takes the guesswork away.

As a revert muslim i found out by my teacher the Prophet Muhammad fasted 2 days in a week Monday and Thursday, ate 1 to 2 meals a day, sometimes did not see meat for 6 week because of the hardships he and his companions went through, he emphasized the use of having black seed oil, olive oil, figs and apple cider vinegar along with eating fruit or vegetables that are in season. I have lost 7stones over 20 months period Alhamdulilah..❤😁

And also he fasted 3 days a month called the (white days) and prophet Muhammad said the best fasting is the fasting of prophet dawud (david) he fasted alternate days....alhamdulilah We also know once for 3 monthe he never lit fire in his house (meaning no cooking) and he ate dates and drank water only...

Hi Dr. Fung! Thanks for the new video. I love your useful advice! I’ve been following intermittent fasting for a month and have had many health improvements! I’m really excited by the drastic drop in cravings and the feeling of actually being nourished after my break the fast meal. I’ve have had about ten successful OMAD days. Im still learning IF techniques. I’m really pleased with my progress. Adding saturated fat to my balanced meal also helped; I found that I was not hungry for 5-7 hours after eating my meal, which has never happened to me in the past. I have separated hunger pangs from wanting to eat, also a new experience. I drink Himalayan pink salt (1/4 teaspoon in a cup of water) to help reduce hunger pangs, which works well. Thanks, again, for your help in improving our health!!!! 🤠👍🏼😎

This was extremely helpful Dr Fung. Habits are key. The idea of adding regular short term “extras” to help with health and weight management is very good, rather than trying to be more restrictive all the time. 16:8, 2 meals a day is easy to maintain. The “extras” done monthly, seasonally or yearly would be the extra boost.
