Hello my friend, You've created a beautiful, durable garden fence from pallets. By using pallets and recycling materials, we protect nature and trees. I love these kinds of projects. You did a good job. The garden is now more sheltered and ostentatious. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing. See you. Big greetings. Yours sincerely, Mehmet.

Hi Phill.... I bought a house a couple years ago since lost my job because of the current State of Affairs and I'm in search of a financially feasible fencing situation with the cost of wood excetera. I love this and I know it came to me on purpose. I'm a single chick but I have some wood Savvy boys that might be able to help me. My question is where do I find that many pallets and is it going to be more cost-effective in the long run? The one thing I can say is I love the conservation idea and recycling. Thank you in advance 4 the Ingenuity and your brilliant mind.
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 2 года назад
Thank you very much for the positive comments. Pallets are quite easy to find. Industrial estates, DIY stores places such as these usually have some going spare if you ask. I think it is very cost effective because pallet wood is thicker than the wood of a standard fence panel. It is also stronger. The one side of fence has been up over 2 years now and its as good as new. The cost of wood at the moment is very expensive so in my opinion is a good idea.

Hey Phill, I'm wanting to fence up my farm and it's about 880 feet in distance and putting up chainlink fencing for me (Contractor cost is about $22,000) which is a heavy dollar and it still won't give any privacy at all so I have been looking for an alternative😄 DIY pallet fencing and I think you have cemented the thought for me :) I realize it's a much bigger project given the distance but I got time and tools and figured I'd ask you if achieving an 8' height is an issue using the same method or you think that much height may make it a less sturdy? Many thanks! Cheers Mate!
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 2 года назад
Hi Kevin, the one I made is 6 feet 6 inches in height. I have climbed over it before with no problems. It is quite sturdy I think. 8 feet should be fine. You could use 2 x 4 feet lengths with the same design as mine. Maybe use 2 x 4 wood for the framing. I used 2 x 3.
@calciumchloride710
@calciumchloride710 Год назад
Have you (or has anyone) tried designs to allow for more air flow? I suppose trying for a "shadowbox" design with these might make it look like you just stacked up some pallets, unless you shadowed maybe 3 boards at a time. I like the architectural look of this--but it's just begging to catch as much wind as possible, which is something I'd like to avoid. I'll try some sketches with framed "window" cutouts that can be filled with lattice...
@PhillWyattProjects

I haven't tried this myself although it sounds like it could look good.

Hi Phil, this is fantastic. One question (and I saw another comment making reference to this): How did you go from pallets to boards? Ha! I was like, hold on there, mate, where’s the part where you struggle with getting those things apart? I love working with pallets, but sometimes they are an absolute nightmare to get apart. Also, I’ve never come across pallets that are that big. The boards I end up with are considerably shorter. Did I miss something?

Hi Lori, please check out my channel. I have loads of pallet wood project videos. I also have a video on how I dismantle pallets: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xaZbmwm5XQU.html The trim piece gives the illusion of longer boards by hiding the joins of the boards. 👌🙂

Great video, thank you very much. Looks great. How did you get the wood off the pallet without damaging them? Our pallets are very hard to get the wood off of them, it is also very hard wood. Any suggestions? I tried using a crow bar but it splits them. For now I use the skill saw to cut them and then take the nails out of the middle, I lose about 4 inches per board this way. Can you show us how you separated them please?

My only question/concern is : shouldn't you leave a tad bit of spacing between wood slats to allow for expansion/contraction due to moisture changes in weather??
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects Год назад
Yes although when I added the slats to the fence they still had some moisture in them. So now there is a gap between each slat in summer and the gap closes up during winter. If your boards are bone dry, then you might want to leave a few mm gap either side.

you said this is your second fence. How old is the first fence and how well has it st5ood up. Also, how long (based on your pallet wood fence experience) do you need to wait before you repaint your fence? thanks!
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 3 года назад
Hi, yea the first one is 2 years old now. It looks the same as when I made it. It's all good so far. I would say with repainting the fence, do it in spring or summer. That way the wood is drying out and not taking on moisture from winter. Avoid painting it in autumn or winter as the moisture content can be higher which can encourage mold especially for water based stain. Either way, paint at a time of year when the wood has a lower moisture content like from now...until August.
