Thank you so much Keen Ramps!!! My 13 yr old son and my 9 yr old daughter built a ramp following your video! We could not have done it without you. I think your ramps are very fairly priced. Especially if you have to buy jig saw, drill bits, sawhorses, paint etc.. so definitely go buy Keen Ramps!! 😊 Btw-Lowe’s actually had 1 by 2 steel plates to our surprise. So we bought two and they worked out beautifully. Thanks again!!

Thank you so much! This gave me enough confidence to try this with my 12 yo son. It took us about 10 hours to work on it (over 2 days) to complete it and 2 trips to Home Depot and 1 to Lowes for the sheet metal. The coping was definitely the hardest part. I will say I wish I listened and pre drilled the screws in on the sides because doing so afterwards with my son was another struggle. All in all it was a success and we are both happy with our new creation. The next one will be from Keen Ramps though 😅

Thank you! If I’ve ever got the money to buy a kit, it will be one of yours simply because I so respect and appreciate you making this video. So detailed, so many good tips, such thorough explanations, plus a few industry secrets! I’ve never built a ramp, and this is going to help a ton. I’ve been scrounging around the neighborhood for a few weeks; I have finally gathered enough stuff to start building. I’m borrowing some power tools and using the hand tools I own, so it will take some time, but I’ll be fulfilling a childhood dream, making something me and my own kids can ride. I run an after school skate program and am passing it on that way, too. Anyway, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Can you show us how you got the coping to the 1x1 as you kinda skipped that. Awesome that you sell ramps yet take the time to show how to DIY one. Perfect for people who aren't in the US..

Right, I was wondering how he got the bolt on in the middle. I understand the tap and die threading, but how'd he get the bolt to stay tight
@michelemorring8138

I used a thick steel boring screw in the middle
@caleblee6811
@caleblee6811 Год назад
Drill and tap the coping before bolting it to the 1x1. I used 2” 3/8-16 bolts. After you drill holes to match on the 1x1 simply insert the bolts through the 1x1 then screw them into the tapped holes in the coping until snug.

The way he said it was a little confusing tbf, but basically when youre tapping the coping you're drilling threads into the metal, which means you can screw the bolt thought the 1x1 and screw the bold directly into the metal

This is great. I have a company building ramps in Kenya and I do it a similar way but unfortunately our materials aren't so standardized. I usually make my structure a little narrower because our plywood sometimes isn't a true 8x4ft, sometimes it's shy about an 1/8th or 1/4 inch shy on one or both edges or sometimes they aren't perfectly square so it's hard to get it perfect without doing some extra cutting. Sometimes the thickness of the ply is inconsistent too, it's so frustrating. It's next to impossible to get straight 2x4s too so I'm trying to build everything in 4 or 6ft sizes so I don't have to fight with the lumber as much as if I have 8ft spans. You guys are a big inspiration, keep up the great work!

If you lay 2 of the 2x4's you have for the ribs on the saw horses under the plywood b4 you cut them up it'll support the whole plywood sheet. Also, if you happen to own a router, you can mount it to a strip of 1/2“ plywood and use the same method for drawing the radius to swing the router through 2 pieces stacked on top of each other.

When I was a kid, my friends and I got together and tried to make a quarter pipe🤔! It was 4 ft tall, had 2 feet of vert, pvc coping and a huge notch at the bottom, because we didn’t use flashing 🤦‍♀️😅! We tried skating it once, all got hurt, and so our ramp was never really skated again…, until we got a new friend who tried to drop in on it, but slammed right into the ground, cause he knocked it over 😅 we were 12 tho, so we tried our best, haha 😄!

Ok serious question here… Have y’all ever tried to use hmmm🤔 let’s say some 16 gauge galvanized staples as an overall fastener? In my mind I’m thinking the staples would mainly fasten the face of the ramp down. (The part actually being shredded on) have you ever tried that fastening method? If so, what are the issues? The main reason I’m thinkin staples is simply for a faster install. Lmk what you think, your opinion would be very helpful!!!

Great tutorial, but you should specify the amount of stagger on the radius board at minute 3:40; I used 6' radius and staggered by 9 1/2" but then the 48" deck ply was too short so I had to seam two pieces which is kind of a bummer. My guess is that the amount of stagger when you draw the radius is critical for the outcome. thx-
