There are tons of plans for lids that fold out into bench seats with seat backs. I have 5 toddler grand kids now and it's time for their sandbox at grandpas house. Wahoo! Next comes the tree house! I love being a grandpa!

Thank you for this video, I just built very similar sandbox from 4x4s. I noticed sides were a bit unstable and I also added four side screws to attach each side to another at corners, that made it rock solid. For cover I'm using shade fabric as I didn't have spare wood for this size of sandbox and buying new would've been too expensive. Thanks again!

Very cool idea but, Do you really want your kids playing on treated 4x4 wood?
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 3 года назад
@@xraykadiddlehopper8067 They stopped putting arsenic and chrome in pressure treated wood back in 2002. The primary components are copper and ammonia now I believe, neither of which pose the health risks associated with the heavy metals previously used. It probably doesn't last as long as the old stuff, but this is ground contact wood. It literally has a picture of kids' playsets on the side. As long as they aren't chewing on the wood we should be okay.

Well, I did this right before the price of lumber went crazy. 8 foot 4x4's are about $18 right now, so it would cost about $108. When I made this it was way cheaper. It's still better than buying something premade in my opinion.

My sand box is tiling, all of my kitchen counter tops, this month. Plus i just keep on finding things to tile. Like window seals ect. Oh man that dresses up a window seal. i use a 18X18 porcelain Tile and cut it round for my Webber Grill to become a pizza oven. with a diamond 1" hole saw. make 18 holes around the outer side, flip the metal grill over, where the handles are down ~ Place the finish title over the grate WHALLA a pizza oven. I also learn some thing NEVER USE MORTAR. Its to hard to work and a big mess. Use silicone or liquid nail to hold the title. Grouting is easy and fun with RED DEVIL TUBED GROUT ~ I bet she telling all the kids, to come to play in her new sand box 👍

Oh man, there so many uses for tile, can use it for cabinet floors, walls, floors, table tops, cutting boards, many uses. its a lot better than wall paper and lots better than floor mica too. Yep i went crazy with it. Next i'am going to dress up the concert steps with it, and do my patio with them too. Now thinking of doing the roof with tile use asphalt to hold them

Thank you for this video. I just wanted to know how the 4x4s are holding up being exposed to weather? This is a consideration since we live in a tropical climate. Thank you
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 6 месяцев назад
The 4x4's are holding up solid, since they are "ground contact" treated. The lid has taken most of the damage from the weather. I painted the lid to help it last longer. This past summer I added a few screws where the trim was bowing up and added some roofing paper to make it water proof.
@bjkcoronel
@bjkcoronel 6 месяцев назад
Thank you! I have my 4x4 from a previous pergola I built. Unfortunately, a cat 4 typhoon took it down breaking the support. Will it do well if the wood has been applied with waterproofing stain and sealer? I noticed that standing water between wood on top of each other harbors a slimy white mold. Though easy to remove from the surface, it may be challenging if this gets stuck in between wood. Nevertheless, will try per vid. Thank you!
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 6 месяцев назад
Sorry to hear about the pergola. If I had the lumber on hand, I would just go ahead and use what you have. Most likely the kids will outgrow it before it rots, but if you want to stain it, just make sure you use something that's safe for around kids like amzn.to/3TmdtEw @@bjkcoronel

Thank you for the recommendation. The size is also just right for converting it into a raised bed when the kids outgrow it. :)

I've done a decent amount of research on it and I think it's not an issue. The way they pressure treated lumber years ago was more toxic.
