Tommy...ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! Build time 17mins. as shown in video timelapsed ...selling price would be $395. But -actual build time NOT time-lapsed (days).... selling price would be $5,995 :) I loved watching your skills! You are amazing! What a piece of art, with the tech built into it. I stumbled across your video because I was looking to incorporate actuators into one of my future projects and was stuck to watching your project, all the way through....Thank you for sharing. Todd

I'm always amazed how much better people like this guy are at tool management and space management. I've got a 2 car garage myself (i'll be honest.... it's a disaster) and i need to step it up so i can do some actual work in it. time to redesign again. think i'll start by building a drafting table lol edit: after seeing that dewalt saw... i need one now. Didn't know an arm saw could be used as a side table saw type
@TommyTompkins
@TommyTompkins 5 лет назад
Hahaha what you don't see is all the crap that I moved to the side so that I could get a nice clean shot. My shop is always a mess! My radial arm saw pretty much replaced my table saw entirely the last couple of years.

Tommy you are clearly a talented craftsman! This must have taken many many months of design, planning and testing, not to mention building while recording so many different parts of the process at the same time. The bungee cauls are a great idea! I also liked how you solved the "wrong side" slot - made it look like it was meant to be there and satisfied my CDO for symmetry :-) I wish you all the success with this!
@TommyTompkins
@TommyTompkins 6 лет назад
Thanks for the kind words Leigh! You have no idea how much work has gone into this desk, and the monitor stand and inversion chair that goes with it. From the initial concept to where I am with it today did indeed take many months of planning and testing. The monitor stand and chair videos that go with the desk will be coming out soon as well but I need to build and film another chair first!

@TommyTompkins
@TommyTompkins 6 лет назад
Greetings neighbor! Yes, I agree that the RAS gets a bad rap but I really enjoy working with it and it's versatility. A nice example of that is when I cut the recesses for the switch. Sure you can probably do that on a table saw but man...it's way easier on a RAS.

i dunno... if you do a stress test it would come down to the bolts connecting the linear actuator to the wood which would give way given this design by the looks of it. Wouldnt it be more sound placing the linear actuator with a perpendicular bracket ? Also if you put. a monitor on top that table would flip right over. Other than that its a good design. Excellent craftsmanship. i think i learnt a lot about column design

Tommy, an actuator running from the mobile portion of the legs to the back side of the table top. Make the table top horizontal when the actuator is at it’s shortest setting and make sure the actuator is installed at a slight angle if it’s horizontal it could rip the table top apart.
@TommyTompkins
@TommyTompkins 6 лет назад
That's actually a fairly easy thing to add with a smaller actuator. There's also another spot for an additional switch on the left side table brace so it would look very nice. It would also act as a table lock so that you don't have to worry about tightening the knobs on the ends to lock the tilt in place. I like it.

This is great and really gives me a clear picture on how i can also do this. If you don't mind - I have two questions - 1) How did you wire the two actuators to the single power source and controller? 2) why did you have the motor at the top (underside of the table top) rather than at the bottom?
@TommyTompkins
@TommyTompkins 4 года назад
1) You can find the basics in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hpZl77cYBxo.html But the wiring can get a bit complicated because I use relays with speed controller to power two actuators. I have the wiring diagrams, parts lists, and complete instructions in my desk plans here: liftbridgefurniture.com/product/lift-bridge-standing-desk-drafting-table-plans/ 2) The motor is at the top because the wires come out of the motor and they are easier to hide under the table top in the utility box with the power supply. It's just allows for a cleaner look.
