This video shows the entire build process for the 7' x 12.6' metal frame platform for my off grid tiny home trailer build. What started out as a renovation project of a vintage trailer has now inspired a complete new build from the ground up. So far I'd say it's going great. At 6:51I hope that you redid those welds and any others like it. Did a lot of Mig welding myself when employed at a horse and cattle trailer manufacturing company. Those need do be redone.

I recommend bolting the hitch (with nice big washers) instead, because hitches tend to be a consumable in my experience

I just found this so interesting.We bought a 12’ v-nose aluminum trailer and designed it into a camper and kayak hauler. Amazing what you can up with for ideas and custom build it to your needs. Looking forward to what comes next.😘

Eddie 2.0 in progress....please standby. Very cool to see the very first steps. Hopefully this video shows a lot of people just how much work is involved in the planning & cresting of the frame. Just think every camper out there started out just this same way.

Thats not a trailer frame -- its the sub frame for Sherman Tank. But hey -- your trailer your way -- it will be something your great grand kids will be able to use 👍

Great project, Scott. I knew you'd figure out something spectacular. Our friend built their camper from his design, but he made the frame with Chrome-molly (sp?) Very strong but light in weight. Good Luck with the remaining work you have cut out for yourself.

That's going to be a stronger trailer than any mass production camper built with light gauge stringer channel stock.

Excellent guide... Would it be much more difficult to install a sliding mechanism in the frame for a slide out room, or to make a detachable hitch?

Yes,, as long as you are a decent welder,, if not so competent, get some scrap and practice till it gets better, then go hard,, I have just begun a similar project and it will be all arc welded,

Very nice build, well done! These wheels have a bolt pattern of 5x5, while your axle hubs should be 5x4½. Did you use an adapter?

Canadian content is welcome. The only issue I have with US builds, is that the dollar exchange rate, the sheer number of outlets, and availability of parts compared to Canada is insane; American builders just don't know how good they have it. Of course, living half way to the Arctic Circle, actually 2km, south of the continental divide, doesn't help!!! Lovely welds...

I was surprised how little info there is. I spent a lot of time researching my design. I sent it to my friends who had various backgrounds and made changes based on their recommendations. I wouldn’t change a thing to my design now. Very happy with it.

no bevels before welding, not even cleaning it of factory gunk. thick tubing and thin welds means half of its strength is unused
