How to Build Heavy Duty Trailer Ramps

In this video, I build heavy duty trailer ramps that hinge onto the trailer itself. I measure, cut, and weld all the metal together to get the ramps that I need to haul my tractor and any other piece of machinery that requires ramps.

Awesome video! Appreciate the video and I’m going to do this for a trailer I’m currently rebuilding. Haven’t welded much but I figure RU-vid university might teach me a thing or two 🤣

I'm 6:58 in and I like your content already. I was looking for vids showing this but they were all light weight stuff. I'm going to subscribe and hopefully learn some good stuff. Thanks Ren-Man!!

Good, honest stuff. Commenting from Albany, GA. You sound like you're close-by. Regarding being an expert: That's something I posted about my dad one Father's day....He taught me you don't have to know how to do something to get it done.

Pretty cool video man thanks I got few ideas off ya. Join the club in the drill bits section. And funny how you covered being a no so good welder lol, great theory on that too. I’m just learning myself how to weld and I’ve got some serious bumpy looking excuses for welds laying around for sure but I’m getting much better. About to tackle beefing up my trailers tailgate soon as she’s sagging some in the mesh Dept where the cheapskates who built Leonard landscaping trailers and only brace the whole tailgate for like kids hot wheels and then you gotta smash all the broken loose mesh back down flush which is like one of my favorite things to do, right next to trying to tack weld them back down to the non existent cross members without smoking 🚬 them into dust and then have nothing to weld to 😂

Definitely should have more subs my guy. Good quality film here. Looking at this to find out how to find the correct angle for the ramps. I have an m35a2 and wanting to build ramps so I load my mini onto the bed.
@all_things_man
@all_things_man Год назад
Thank you! I sincerely appreciate it. In regards to the angle, are you talking about the angle to cut the end of the ramp that touches the ground?
@logangaskins9003
@logangaskins9003 Год назад
@@all_things_man the angle to find the actual length of the ramp is what I’m referring to.
@all_things_man
@all_things_man Год назад
@@logangaskins9003 ahhhhhh. I suppose you may already know this, but the length depends on how much clearance you must have for what you are loading. The shorter the ramp the more clearance whatever you’re loading will require. If your trailer has a dovetail, you could just put a 2x4 on it and push it until it meets the ground. Then you’d just measure the distance on the 2x4 from where it meets the ground to where it comes to your dovetail. I hope that makes sense and is helpful.
@logangaskins9003
@logangaskins9003 Год назад
@@all_things_man it does except for me there’s no pictures of what I’m trying to do. Look up an m35a2 and then imagine building ramps to load a cat 301.7cr That’s what I’m trying to do. About 50” off the ground to floor of the bed
@all_things_man
@all_things_man Год назад
@@logangaskins9003 Oh okay. First off, nice machine. Second, even cooler truck. Since your machine has tracks, you don’t have to worry about clearance. You just need to build ramps that are long enough to keep you from flipping over when you load it. I would recommend measuring up 50 inches on a wall and then use a tape measure to give you a visual of hold long the ramps need to be to give you a reasonable slope. When you put ramps down you are effectively making a right angle. Your ramp is the hypotenuse of the right angle. So, when you use your tape measure, your tape measure is the hypotenuse. With that being said, at 50” tall, those suckers are going to have to be pretty long. I’d say at least 8ft long. If you had a trailer you could pull behind your truck, that would be a better option. If not, make super long ramps lol.

Double the number of "ladder rungs" so smaller diameter wheels, like a riding mower can use the ramps. Not doing it for added strength, but for smaller gaps.

just to let you know their brackets are out there and will flop the ramps on top of the trailer to lay flat in your case would be a lot better for you not to wear out the holes in your rumps to i am talking from a fabrication point would have put supports on the rumps

How thick angle iron and c channel did you use and where did you buy the c channel ive called several places and cant find any

I am pretty sure my metal is 1/4 inch thick. I bought my metal from a local farm equipment manufacturing company. They keep a lot of metal on hand and will sell it to individuals.

Older video but Dude, ditch the chop saw. the metal dust alone is terrible. After buying a Dewalt, which is no better than the Porter just more money, I switched to the Evolution low rpm carbide saw. Goes through metal like butter and cuts straight. If you do angles with the chop saw you'll spend hours in prep. The Evo saw is nearly perfect and cut prep time to a couple of minutes.
@all_things_man
@all_things_man 6 месяцев назад
I certainly agree. I would love to have the evolution. However, those suckers are pricey and I don’t know that I work with metal often enough to justify the expense. But you are 100% correct. Those things are nice.

The harbor freight metal cut wheel 10" I believe blades do awesome I had to cut 32 kickers to widen my deck today and I did 2 cuts threw 1/2" c channel with my grinder and I said ef that so I spent the $50 on the blade and omg takes maybe 10 sec a cut I'm over 40 cuts and she cuts like new still tomorrow is ramps is why I'm here watching this haha those cut off wheels kinda suck for those bigger jobs with heavy duty metal

That first blade was awful eh lmao probably chinese crap. I remember my one boss got a "good deal" on some ¼ round stock then we tried to make a cord hang racl outta it and the other welder welded the round stock on some plate and we went to hang a cord and it broke off immediately lol rhen the other 5 went as well so i inspected the material and it was porous almost like a cast 😂😂😂😂
