How to Build Reliable DSG Airsoft EASY STEPS

You will learn how to build a reliable DSG , duel sector gear build for #Airsoft.

A DSG is different from a normal airsoft sector gear, this one has two sectors of teeth, with one full cycle of the gear, it pulls the piston back 2 times compared to once. Tho this sounds great, installing the DSG is not enough to make it work efficiently.
This was a build for a client who provided the motor. Star wei 30K, for a really efficient DSG 18:1 build I recommend 22 TPA motor with Neo Magnets.
You will learn various tips and tricks that I have learned over the years of being an airsoft Tech.

nice vid. another things you could do for reliability is radiusing the gearbox shell since most stock shells aren't the strongest. zci and guarder tappet springs are also really strong and I've used them without cutting any coils before. a good thing to check with aftermarket tappets is to make sure they slide super smoothly along the tappet rails when the gearbox is screwed in. super smooth tappet travel will allow for better full auto consistency and less tappet spring coils needing to be cut. also if you're lazy like me a good way to cut the tappet without measuring too much is to cut where the tappet fin lines up with the center of the sector gear axle lol.

@@TheRealDealAirsoft workin on another 13:1 ssg today and dropping in therealdeal piston setup. The shs bevel wasn’t happy with the pinion when I just attached the motor cage and motor, and pulled the trigger. Was screechy af even with adjusting shims. The stock bevel sounds way better and meshes good with the shs spur. YOU HeArD?!!!!

Tired of people stuck in 2010 saying DSGs are unreliable. Mine is at 40K rounds with no maintenance (besides the 20k check and regrease) and I know others have gone even further

Solid vid and love that you used g&g gears!shs are also good but I’d recommend an umbrella modified Zci bevel. Shs bevels love to sheer the bottom teeth off.

If your using the stock spring that’s your issue. The stock spring ina. DSG will give you like 75 FPS lol You need like an m160

If you build a dog make sure to walk him And for the tappet plate spring you can cut a coil and pull another one down Or just pull another coil down with a player and a flat head screw driver should do the job

Look for TPA count. You want for a very efficient DSG with 35 rps 22 tpa motor. They make shs 22 TPa Or ASG 22 ultimate. That’s probably the best motor for DSG If you want pure trigger response and like 27 rps then ASG 28 TPa 18k motor

I was looking at a asg 28 tpa originally but I didnt know how efficient it would be, do you think I would be fine if I radiused a g&g gearbox and used it for a dsg build with a asg 28 tpa and like a m160 or m170(I've heard g&g gearboxes are generally poor quality)

Of corse optical mosfets are great with DSG

Oh I read it wrong. No you don’t need an optical mosfet. You can DSG with a stock set up however your probably going to run into issues You need a mosfet to controll active breaking. You can solder a Perun AB onto the trigger contacts and you can have a controlled DSG. I sell them on my website.

Yoo question brother man. 8 tooth dsg. I’m going to use the insidious armory aoe corrected piston and spacer from you. I don’t need to remove the 8 teeth from the release of the piston right? I assume it’s just for weight reduction, but shouldn’t be a big deal since the piston is Swiss cheesed and I’m using a 22tpa motor. I don’t think you removed them here either

Yeah so you don’t have to remove those teeth. It’s really for weight reduction as you said. I’ve never had a problem with full rack on DSG

Hey! i have a DSG 18:1 with and SHS HT motor and 170 spring, i have good compression but still i shoot like 200 fps i have trimmed my tappet plate so it releases on the the end of 2 last tooth and cut down 2 coils, both sides of my tappet plate spring. i use a stock barrel. Please help.

The m160 you have on the site, 18:1 dsg gear set, and the modded tappet plate, should get me around 350 and under? debating on using an ASG 30k motor or sitcking with a 22tpa from zci or asg. Hey boss yeah depending on your barrel length you should wind up around 350 Also the motor really depends on what rps you want. ASG 30 k will give like 40-50 rps ASG 22 much more efficient but around 30 rps

Great video, I have one question, when the sector gear is a dual one, should one spin make 2 bbs shoot in semi? Or did you have to program it in the mosfet?

That’s where active breaking comes in. And cycle detection. When you have a mosfet like a hybrid or a gate Titan you choose DSG gear setting.

Damn that DSG build was a lil underwhelming. I’ve had much better trigger response and ROF on SSG short stroked builds which are inherently more reliable without breaking the bank. Not to mention the ability to push heavier bbs. Reliability was my main reason for switching from my DSG build to a SS SSG. Making up for the lack in cylinder volume with an insane spring just to crest 400 FPS isn’t great for reliability, esp on a budget.

@@TheRealDealAirsoft Oh yea I know but I’m just sayin I don’t get the point of going the route of this particular build. I feel like sacrificing reliability and adding extra stress on the gun for a DSG build should be done in exchange for crazy performance. The video does a good job at explaining the build process tho, I liked your explanation on how to get the proper tappet plate length. Some people will tell you to trim off a specific amount which I never understood since there’s so many different tappet plate/sector gear configurations that require different amounts to be cut off.

Nooooo you can NOT do this with an m120 spring. Not only will you get like 150 FPS but you will for sure for sure prematur engage you will shreds everything in your gearbox

You can install a DSG gear in g&g fire hawk if you do ASG 30 then you’ll have over 40 rps I wouldn’t get any less torque if a motor but yeah that would be a high speed DSG use a heavy spring m160

How many rps am I looking at if I’m using a 40k motor? I have everything upgraded where it can take that kind of stress. Ss bushings, 18:1 ratio, and an aftermarket gearbox.

40k your looking at like 45 rps maybe higher. But semi will be rather in efficient. 40k tpa is like 14-15 tpa which doesn’t pack much torque. I personally use my golfeen Boi which is 18 tpa. Hey brother, let me ask you, I built my first reliable dsg, well I say reliable but not really because it doesn't feed. The build went great but as I mentioned doesn't feed properly. I don't think it's a hop up issue. I think it's inside the gearbox maybe tappet plate. Can you offer any advice?

never. probably a weak connection from battery to motor either your tabs are broken or wierd or your battery is insufficient

I have a bone stock Valken ASL. I am buying a lot of the parts, but I had one question. Is a mosfet also a necessity? Also, for field rules, I am trying to keep it around 30rps, so how would I do so? I planned on doing the 13:1, but if 18:1 is the better way, I will do that.

Mosfet is necesssry and 18:1 and my good men boy motor would yield you 30 and under not more

Great tips ! Can i ask some help ? I build a SSG short stroke 8teeth to reach fast cycle time without building à DSG. But doing that i get low fps , like 200fps with m130 😳 Any advice ? Thanks a lot !

Bro you short stroked 8 teeth what else do you think is going to happen lol. Just remove your sector gear , and get a $25 duel sector gear and a m150 spring or m160. I don’t know anyone who would short stroke that many teeth. 4 is the max. Your going to hit pretty mature engagement and blow your piston rack out. Either run a heavier spring or just get a DSG. It’s not efficient your set up. If you want DSG like results build a DSG your not getting any air volume. Your piston is barely getting pulled back and you have a weak spring. On SSG you loose about 15-20 FPS each tooth removed

Depends on the mosfet. Some mosfets read that as too high amp draw. Like the old Perun optical the one in this video if you use a 40k on auto it will read too high amp draw and cut off the power. But with newer mosfets Youl be Gucci tho your going to have more amp draw on semi compared to 30k but your rate of fire will be high

Everyone and their mother knows shs is the OEM of Rocket airsoft. It’s one in the same. And these gears are the newest generation shs gearsets , you can tell by the cut off cams and the way the top and bottom gears are fused together. You can also tell by the shape of the bevel gear teeth as well as how many anti reversal latch catch points there are in the bevel. I know what I’m doing and my followers who are educated also know what they are doing. Please take the time to learn about DSG and gear ratios and air cylinder volume and much more. M160 is hands down the most common spring used for duel sector gear builds.

If your dsg ain’t shooting laser beams then it’s trash. I’ve seen too many people running them built by morons and the bbs just look like an 11 year old threw them from his hand 🤣 I’m in the process of building on myself and I’ve been told they’re hard to tune right. Hopefully mine doesn’t perform badly. I will say my normal rifle is so much fun and really fast at 25 RPS but I’m only building building this in hopes for 40+ lol I don’t see the need to go over 40 because you’re just going to blow your load in under 4 seconds anyway 😂

No need to go over 40. I agree. Half the time kids who claim to have a 60rps DSG The gun only feeds in auto for the first 50 bbs everything after that not enough tension and it doesn’t feed. 40-45 is the sweet spot man

This is true however it’s hard to find and shipping takes a while. I personally modify each tappet plate and test also. It’s the hands on personal touch vs a Chinese factory. And I ship all orders of in stock with in same day and at the latest two buisness days. 90 percent of all orders are sent out within 12 hours
