Yes. U nailed it for me “my closet doesn’t reflect my lifestyle”. I have more going out clothes than everyday clothes (and I don’t really go out anywhere) and it’s no wonder I feel like I have nothing to wear! They say buy for your current self instead of your fantasy self.
Yes. Good point. I have purchased clothes based off of a fantasy of mind such as traveling places I won’t even go anytime soon. I’m finally purchasing based off of my current lifestyle which has helped immensely and saved a lot of money.
This video doesn’t apply to me at all, I’m a guy with very little clothes, but I subscribed because I was looking all these minimalist videos, and then I clicked on this one and ended up in another world. This whole video’s a work of art, it breathes peace into my being: her peaceful way of talking, the perfect colors in her appartment, the mimimalistic editing style. I’ve added it to my video list of guided meditations haha
I’ve got around 55 pieces in my capsule wardrobe. This may seem like a lot, but I live in the Netherlands with 4 seasons, so I need all of those clothes just because the weather can change a lot throughout the year. I’m always working on it, but right now I am pretty content with it!
I completely understand why you need a versatile closet in Netherlands or anywhere with 4 seasons. I think I would be more flexible too. I am still adjusting and trying to figure out what pieces I'm missing or what I need to get rid of, but planning to share my favorite capsule pieces in my video on Tuesday :) if you are interested ❤ thank you for sharing
I just wanted to share as a 14 years-old young woman who's living on a slow living lifestyle is such a good thing to deal with anxiety. This video, well, exactly, her videos always calm and help my mind to breathe in and breathe out. So, I will donate some of my things in my wardrobe!💚
That’s great! I’ve talked to a 15 yo and 19yo and they also are to slow fashion as well. I love that your generation is embracing this. I never heard of it until I spoke with them.
I'm glad to find someone who's the same age as me who also like slow fashion! Cuz I know a lot of people the same age as who have a more outgoing fashion style so I sometimes feel out of place and the fact that some of them look at my style weirdly.
As someone who consumes a lot of minimalist content, I get bored of watching how-tos. I'd love a video from you called MY CAPSULE where you walk us through each of your pieces, what you like about it, when and where you got it, the connection you have with it. Same for other areas in your home like your beauty collection and your home decor, etc.
I love the idea of building capsule wardrobe .I just find it hard when you're living in 4 seasons. Purchasing a staple wardrobe that won't go out of style that is clever.
Ditch the heavy sweaters and layer. Tanks double as a first layer in winter, long sleeve tees/blouses then button down sweaters on top. I add prints with my blouses. This solved my four season wardrobe. I wear mostly jeans and have different weights. Leggins can be worn under jeans in the winter as a first layer. Summer is only two or three months so I usually wear dresses. Don't need that many and short sleeve/sleeveless tops; light weight jeans in summer gets me by. Don't buy a lot of summer shoes. Think of this; three months equals about 90 days. If you own five pair of summer shoes you can only wear each pair twelve times in that summer. Scarves are used for color and extra warmth in winter. I only have round neck tops, this helps with layering so they don't look goofy.
I think a capsule wardrobe is a fabulous idea! Mine contains a lot of black because it goes with everything but can end up looking a bit boring! Your video has inspired me to try to be more creative with the pieces I have- thank you 😊
I am plan to build one this year!! Starting with the Summer season (I think have a few peices for each season is how I would have to do this because of how much weather changes where I live).
Just to revisit... Having various types of outerwear has been a real treasure here in the 4 season area! 1. Rain jacket 2. Poncho 3. Car coat 4. Wind breaker 5. Down short + 3/4 length 6. One soecial occasion wool (Gloves & Scarves as accessories)
I came to this video right after a cardio workout and her calmness made me feel like I'm a very aggressive woman 🤣 love the content though, will be building my own capsule!
I love my “capsule” so much that is has 500 items in it! I guess I’ll never be a minimalist when it comes to fashion. Whenever I edit, I find that I love and wear everything, pretty much, and can only remove a few items. In my defense, I have built my collection of quality, classic pieces over 40+ years.
I think the key for a capsule wardrobe is to be happy with everything you have, and not having to spend a lot of time in the morning finding something to wear! It seems like you achieved that, so thats good right?
Very beautiful wardrobe. My wardrobe colors are similar to yours. I’m in Florida, a tropical climate, so I wear a lot of light colored linen. I don’t need a 4 season wardrobe either. My home colors are natural like yours, too. I guess the similarities is what drew me to your channel. Thank you for making a calm relaxing channel to escape to in a world of chaos. 💕
I need your kind of calm in my life! This is really inspiring. I’m so sick of having nothing to wear and not loving my clothes. Ready to make a change!
Reversing my hangers is one of my top tips to do when it comes to decluttering and really curating my closet. I had to learn after moving to the Caribbean to have a wardrobe that reflected my lifestyle and that really helped me to minimize the things that was just sitting in my closet. I've mentioned the reverse hanger tip in my recent video as well 😊💕 Great video as always Sophie
I can't wait to see it Deandra! I found this out couple of months back and I found it so helpful. I now know which clothes to get rid of :) thanks for watching
This video has been on my "watch later" list for a while - I've always been a little skeptical about capsule wardrobes to be honest (especially the ones with very very few items) as I've felt like it's unrealistic for the very wet, cold and changeable climate that I live in. I like how you addressed that though and especially the point about having clothes that suit individual lifestyles. I definitely feel like I have too many of some items and not enough of others! Currently decluttering in preparation for moving so this was helpful to start me thinking about being more intentional about my wardrobe 🙂
Luckily Hawaii doesn't have crazy weather changes so it's easy to have a capsule wardrobe here. So much clothes but nothing to wear is a real thing when overwhelmed.
You don’t live in London I think. We have 20 seasons in a year. Just for my nightwear, I have full sleeve top, 3/4th sleeve top, half sleeve top and sleeveless top. And same for the trousers. Let’s talk about outwear, short jacket, Mac and trench coat for rainy days, tweed jacket for in between seasons, wool coats, fleece jacket, running jackets….It’s different when you live in a tropical country. It’s difficult to be a minimalist in London.
I hear you; living in Quebec and I totally see what you mean. The in-between is such a chaos that you have to be ready for everything ! There's absolutely no way I could just layer thin summer fabrics and feel warm 12 months a year. Some people aim for seasonal capsule wardrobes and I think it's still doable. That being said, her capsule wardrobe for a tropical climate is absolutely gorgeous and so harmonious! Definitely an inspiration to find our own style within our own climate realities. :-)
Thank you so much for this video! I started building a capsule wardrobe a while back but have needed to solidify it for a while. This is just the inspiration I need to get back to it! Because I live in the US Midwest (where we have a WIDE range of weather and temperatures throughout the year) I create one cold weather capsule and one warm weather capsule, then slowly swap them out over spring and autumn!
Thank you so much for watching :) I'm lucky I only need one capsule, but I love watching other winter/fall/spring capsules on other channel. So glad this motivated you to get back into it.
I love how your little dog is just sleeping through it. By the way I tried on every single piece while sorting my closet out. It helped me immensely, 20% of my things I wanted to keep did not even fit me anymore. I got some boxes from Ikea and organised everything neatly so when I choose an outfit, I can just grab anything without thinking about it too much. I also organise according to the seasons since we have winter and summer with crazy and sudden changes, which means I can't pack away my winter stuff, they have to be in reach all the time. I save a lot of space, energy and money with having less and I don't have the feeling of missing out on anything.
I'm sure just spending a day or two to organize your closet and sorting through your clothes makes getting dressed in the morning so much easer! I love trying on all the outfits in my closet too. Thank you for sharing! really motivated me as well
I wish I lived in Hawaii, in Germany we have 4 seasons and I need clothes for every season. Thanks for the video and the inspiration, I love your wardrobe and I feel inspired to find a wardrobe that always fit to me, blessings!
I love watching 4 different capsules for the different seasons from different creators :) I am just lucky I only need one. I am so happy that this made you want to find a wardrobe that fits you. Thanks Cristina
Same with me here, in the southern part of Russia. Even now, in winter we have days with -5C and heavy snow, and then all of a sudden it's sunny and +15C but with lots of puddles, and then it's all over again. So we have to have boots for snow, boots for rain, warmer coats and lighter ones, etc. Plus the same set of things for my little daughter. It drives me crazy sometimes)))
@@JJ_Rey I live in the North Eastern United States, Pennsylvania state. We have a lot of rain and mud in the spring. Our spring auctions and barn sales are referred to as "mud sales". I know how you feel because I live in the country. I wear my boots to the car because I can't get out of my drive without having muddy feet. Change my boots to shoes in the car. I haven't counted my clothing but I guess I'm in the range of 200 pieces for all four seasons. I love clothing, especially winter clothes.
@@TippyPuddles mud sales, wow XD it's somehow heartwarming to know we are not the only ones here in the mud during spring and fall and gosh after each rain shower in fact)) god bless rubber boots XD
I love your neutral pieces you have in your wardrobe. You inspired me to shop for more basic pieces and let go of items that no longer suit my personality. Thank you.
Great video! I’ve been doing a capsule wardrobe for years and it’s the best. Going through my closet today to get ready for spring/summer (I’m in SoCal). Recently found your channel and I’m enjoying watching all your videos 🤍
Even though I live in a relatively mild climate, I need to have different clothes for all four seasons, like most people. I think a one-year review of what’s been worn works better. I edit at the beginning of each season, when I bring the clothes for it out. Anything that I’m not excited to see again goes for donation. I have few truly year-round garments, but my sneakers, silk scarves, belts, bags and jewelry are.
Love your channel/content!! It’s truly inspired me. With that being said, would you consider doing a video about your diet/what you typically eat in a day and how that factors into your minimalism and slow living life style? I’ve watched many of your videos and I’ve noticed this is one aspect you’ve chosen not to share. Would love to know more about your diet/healthy eating!
Thank you 🥰 I'm so happy to hear that! I would LOVE to do that video since I love cooking and I think sharing simple meal ideas would be helpful and also fun to film. Our kitchen renovation is almost complete, so definitely look out for it please :)
@@MalamaLife Thank you so much for responding! Aww that would be so awesome! We just finished a kitchen reno too so I know how that goes!! 🤪 I’ll be on lookout for the cooking videos! Thank you so much! ❤️
Speaking of seasons, would you recommend two capsule wardrobes for people who live in very seasonal areas, like Chicago or New york? Thank you, I love your videos!
“Uniform” I call them that too! 😆 I feel so proud. They’re mainly pjs/home clothes. I don’t have to think about them anymore and I haven’t gone out. For outerwear - I have yet to decide. But jeans and a tee and or jumpers never fail at the moment. I may not comment more but I love your videos! ^^
I have 55 items around of clothes. Most of them a shirts that need a good pair of jeans or a basic skirt. I have many fancy shirts but barely any basics. I don't have a nice out wear for professional setting. I have made so many buying mistakes in the past it is ridiculous
I have the same round bag! I love your capsule wardrobe! This is something I want to create this year. 🤗💕 Thank you for these tips, Sophie! Very helpful as always!
From someone living in a cold wet country I think I need way more clothes as layering is essential every day. With most days requiring 4 tops alone at least inside.
Could you please tell me the brand of the sage green shirt you’re wearing in the narration parts? Also where do you get your shorts? I really love the green ones. I’m also from Hawaii and trying to get rid of my super low cut super short shorts in exchange for things that are a little looser, more covered, and still lightweightcool/casual. I like to have a place to start (brand names and ideas) before I thrift. Thank you!
It is from everlane :) the shorts are from Zulu & zephner. I also had so many short that were way too short for me. These green ones are the perfect length :) thanks for watching
I am doing the big purge this weekend. I am so nervous and excited at the same time. I can't wait to purchase higher quality items and feel better about what I am wearing.
I have a rule for myself about new purchases. I give myself a week. I try it on and if I like it, make outfits with it. Once I decide it's a go, I wash it and put it in the closet. I find if you aren't decided and put it in the closet with the tags on, it's probably not going to be worn. If it's still hanging around outside of my closet it's sure to go back. I did pull out all of the clothing I didn't wear even if I liked it. That was tough but one of the best things I ever did for my wardrobe.
Haha I was right from the start: Gosh, her skintone is so great, the colours and the fabric suit it so well, I couldn't wear that beautiful shade of khaki ... ffw 7:45 - yes they do, great job!! You look great in all of em ^^
Great video. Excellent concept. Thank you. When are used to work for the gap they had the excellent concept of “the basics“. Black top, black pants, white top, white pants, skirt, blazer, tank tops, jeans. I loved this concept because then you just throw in some style clothes as things change.
I was waiting for this video for so long and i love it! It's so inspiring, thank you for all your amazing tips! I love how calming your videos are and i got so many new ideas for my own capsule wardrobe. Can't wait for your "give away pile" video. Thanks!
This is awesome. I've always had a bit of a bohomian slant in my wardrobe & it's been that way for decades. Long skirts, jeans, waistcoats are my usuals. And I'm mad about cardigans lol. I've always maintained if you can put your clothes in a big suitcase, that's enough, much to the horror of some of my "Kardashian-fashion trendy type" friends who are simply horrified with me lol. You see? I'm not the only one here. You do this too lol. PS: First time I'm hearing this is called a "capsule wardrobe" or minimalist fashion.
I used to have a HUGE wardrobe so my capsule wardrobe probably isn’t “minimal” to a lot of ppl. But for me, everyday I walk into my closet I say “oh my gosh I can’t believe this is all the clothes I have left”. I own 4 pair of jeans lol. I used to have about 10-12! I’m truly proud of myself. Sometimes I wanna make it smaller but I truly love what I have
I love that beautiful ribbed tank you're wearing around1:55. Was that thrifted or a particular brand? It looks like my style and I'd love to add it to my wardrobe, or one like it!
Well if I test my capsule wardrobe for 2 month just to find out what is missing... it’s going to be another season and I probably won’t need those items anymore
I could watch over and over the calming effect you have is awesome I literally felt like I was getting a massage-while learning about wardrobe essentials awesome video .
I strongly disagree with the fact that capsule wardrobe should be all year long . It will not work in all climates. I live in a place that gets -25°C in winter and +35 ° C in summer. I need different pieces for different times of the year. There are definitely pieces that work all year long but they are only a percentage.
Hi Sophie, This video on capsule wardrobes, was much to my liking. Great useful tips - enjoyed listening to them. It was also nice that you mentioned the numbers of garments is not so important, but to rather concentrate on where one lives. Most capsule videos show the clothes being worn by the owners and focusing on the number of items. This was very interesting as it is a purely different way of a capsule wardrobe video. So your advice and tips thoroughly resonated with me. A big Thank You and wishing you a great weekend.
Thank you so much for watching 😊 i have more than the usual capsule wardrobe, but I found that i like having a little variety. I'm so happy you found it helpful. Always appreciate your support!
Mam, i like each of your video so much that it is not possible to express them in one word. i look forward to seeing your next new video. Your decorated house, your beautiful city all together your video leaves a perfect impression in my mind. Thank you again Mam, i pray to God that I can watch your video till last day of my life.......Greetings from India
Hi Sophie, i love your videos so much. I love to watch them in the morning with my tea. Its a great way to start the day. Im currently working on my capsule wardrobe, its a bit difficult for me. I live in Canada and the weather can change alot here. Thank you for your advise !!
Aww thank you Catherine 😍 that is so cool to hear. I can imagine the contrast in weather in Canada. I love watching other winter/spring/fall capsules on other channels! I am really lucky I only need one capsule :)
I’ve definitely minimized my wardrobe over the last 3 years but haven’t done a true capsule wardrobe yet. I wear scrubs most of the time because of work!
I'll do my best to live a minimalist life this year. Though I have been following you when you still had 1k subs, only now did I finally binge watch your videos again about minimalism. Thank you for sharing your wisdom 💛
Clicked like before even watching because this week I was JUST about to add a comment to one of your videos asking for a vid on your wardrobe and thoughts on sustainable clothing. YAY!
Hi! I love how you mentioned some of the brands you bought your pieces from! Could you do a video going more in depth of the clothing brands you love, as well as the pieces that are you closet favorites and where you bought them from? I loveee your looser shorts, they look so comfy!
nice video, so inspiring! I really enjoyed and will be applying low buy too because I feel like there are some gaps in my wardrobe but I need to think about every piece which comes in! 😊🌸
I enjoy your videos so much, they bring me joy and calmness. I resonate with you on so many things and it’s really nice. I live on the coast of Australia so have a similar lifestyle. May I ask where you mainly shop for your clothes? I loved everything 🥰
I actually love so many Australian brands. Zulu & Zephner , Auguste the Label, Seafolly Australia. Love that we have similar lifestyles. I love ozma california and organic basics for my basics. Hope this helps!
@@MalamaLife oh I’m so glad you like Australian brands too, I love those also. Thank you so much for your reply, I only just found your channel and really enjoying it :)
Hi! Just watched your RU-vid couple days ago. My best friend recommended it to me and my husband to watch. We just got married and moved to the US. I am Asian, in the process of a green card, me and my husband run a company together. I am very inspired by your life journey. You have a beautiful mind and heart. Excited to learn more from you, hopefully I can live a minimalistic lifestyle just like you 🤍
