When i first saw this video i thought what a stupid title, like how could you teach someone how to buy a wr250? And then you taught me how to buy a wr250, i already own an 08 wr but you sound like you’ve studied your manual extensively and this video shows that. You’re the man thanks for all the great information.
Thanks Kev, great information for noobs like me, now I know what I shoulda done when I bought mine 2 months ago. I do love my 2016 WR - had to replace the seat though. I bought the bike in Sydney and rode the thousand kms home, that stock seat is diabolical on a long ride.
That’s because he thought he new what the fuck he was talking about but he just Half assed a non mechanic goon ass point a view. Look inside and smell the gas? Lmfao he just wanted to make a video. He learned the term “looped” and got excited
I can tear apart and put a wr back together in a few hours but I still watched the whole video lol. Other things to note, swing arm chain slider wear on the bottom by front sprocket and the stator recall.
@@OverlandFlorida2 I just wanted to follow up - I ended with that 2009 x model. It has some use wear and tear but nothing serious, seats good, grips good, plastics all 95% or better. It had been lowered with a Devol link and all the suspension setting softened to max. I have not decided if I want to put the old tri-link back in but I have upped the preload and reset the forks to factory settings for now. Overall I like it - I have been riding big sports bikes for years so this is a big change for me.
OK. 5 minutes in, I had to pause it to tell you that I'm loving the video. I'm a good pro mechanic on cars, but motorcycles are newer territory. If I watched this first I wouldn't have bought the used one I did. Now I have a new 2017 WR250R - takes away the inspection to buy, but not on maintaining and owning. Okay. I can't wait to get back to watching. :)
I got tons of tips and trick on inspecting once again 11 minutes in. Yes, known fault on these bikes is to replace the front sprocket protector. I'll definitely get one. I liked the hint about a super moto rear sprocket with a lifetime warranty. Seems to me to replace it when I need one so I can always half the lifetime warranty?
SuperMoto Kev hey there's a guy with a 2008 wr250x for 3,800 but should I buy? Cause there is discoloration behind one of the blinkers and he says that's normal and that there's a small scratch on the gas tank
Good job! I am looking for wr250r just now and I find this videoreally helpfull. Actually, there is one point I want to ask about. How do you check the dog bone. You just said it looks like the stock one but what about checking its room?
I bought my wrx a couple weeks ago and have been riding the shit out of it! I have nothing bad to say it is absolutely a blast! But it has 19,000 miles right now and I would love for you to make a video on the valve adjustment required at 26k. I don't want to pay the stealership for the work unless it is a really difficult job. Thanks Kev!
I have always thought it's not a bad thing for a used bike to have bent stock handlebars their made soft and bend when they go down for a reason , if you find a bike with bent say Pro Tapers look for tweaking, or bolt hole elongation.
very useful - many thanks - you mentioned the lowering kit - do you know if its a simple straightforward job to lower the seat height and by chance , would you know how much the seat can be lowered and does it alter the geometry of the bike/ride - i.e. would the forks need to be adjusted as well ? thanks again .
great video, thanks. 2016 was the last model year for these bikes in europe. they are discontinued due to emissions i suppose. do you have any thoughts on what might come from yamaha next or are they done with dual-sports...
Do all the slip on mufflers like you see here assume removing the EXUP exhaust? I like the EXUP. I think it's why this bike has such smooth power delivery at so many RPM. I think a better muffler and EXUP would make better power across the RPM range rather than just whatever the restriction level the muffler is designed for (1 range of RPM maybe a balance of 2 for power).
Great video. I am looking at a 2012 wr25r with warp 9s and 2077 miles or a 2008 wr250x w 6500 miles. Both $4500 (which is a good price here in NJ). Which one would you go with?
so i just subscribed to your channel bro & i think your doing a great thing, loving everything i see so far. anyway my problem lies in the fact that i fell in love with the yamaha wr250x & wr250r as it reminds me of having a Toyota car, now i live in California however i can't seem to find one to fit my budget thats in a good condition, so can you help me out bro please it would be greatly appreciated....
I have been writing a comparison up between these two motorcycles for the last week or so. Seeing your comment, I completed part 1: www.autobravado.com/2017/01/part-1-2015-2017-wr250r-vs-2012-2016.html
Hey I’m in the market for my first bike and feel I want a wr, I came across someone with a completely stock 2008 250x with 15000 miles on her I talked him down to 3500 from 4000 do you feel this is a good deal? Also how tall are you? I’m 6 foot and when I went to the dealership the 250r kind of intimidated me on how tall it is... I haven’t had the chance to sit on an x tho, is the seat height on the x shorter than the r in general?
Thank you for the go-over. First, have you ever had a fuel pump go bad on you? I'm assuming they don't act intermittent or at a reduced capacity but conk out, completely? Which would make diagnosis pretty simple, as you wouldn't hear them do their start-up whirr? Secondly, Yamaha did a recall on the alternators for these at some point. Any knowledge of that? From your video you haven't encountered any problems with that, so I'm not sure it's a problem people actually have versus Yamaha covering their liability?
@@OverlandFlorida2 Thanks for the reply. Am I right regarding the fuel pump diagnosis? That if it goes bad you'll know because it won't make any noise upon turning the bike on?
Supermoto kev. Have a question for ya. Looking to buy a 2010 X and the guy has "had a few track days" (radiator cap, oil drain and cap all safety wired as well). Should I walk away?
Frame color is different. Gearing is different. Front brakes are different. Rims are different. Basically one is for off road and the other is for street. They don't sell the WR250X in America anymore you can only get the WR250R.
Actually they do still sell the WR250X. I almost bought one, but decided that since the CRF250L was so much better with 6 gears instead of five, more power, etc., and then I decided to go with the WR250R because it trumped both in so many ways. It's only fault? Too tall for me, but I've lowered it a bit and I'm getting better. I'm new to motorcycles. Next I'll get the yamalink and put more preload back in.
I should say as of 2016 they made the WR250X, I know they had stopped in 2012 and I don't know what they're doing in between or what they plan for 2017.
Just purchased a 2012 Yamaha WR250R that was in storage for 1 year and 3 months and was never started for all that time. No gas was in the tank. I'm afraid to start it without prepping it somehow. Any suggestions/tips that need to be done to it before I start it?
+fotcheem Any amount of time isn't good really. You can always add stabil to the fuel and it will not break down so fast. The fuel will start to smell bad and turn green when it goes bad.
I would say any WR250X under $3000 is a good deal. obviously in good working condition. But I paid $3,000 for (2) 2008 WR250X each, with less than 5,000 miles.
+SuperMoto Kev I cant seem to find them. If you find one make a video or reply to this one. That'd be super helpful. Thanks for the videos. Keep 'em coming!
As a coastal California resident, I have random stuff corrode all the time from the sea air. I think what he means is that any subtle chips from gravel or stones will have accelerated corrosion because of the salt water or air.
Hi! Can you see at first site something wrong with this bike: www.njuskalo.hr/cestovni-motori/yamaha-wr-250x-250-cm3-oglas-19265572? It has 22000km for 2008 but price is to high in my opinion. For cash 3500€! What do you suggest? Thnx!
The fan for the light... no. That is the cooling fan behind the radiator. Not a bad video, but always check air filter and oil color first, they are the most important
