How to Buzz Test 1996-2008 Ford Powerstroke Diesel Injectors for Under $15 7.3 6.4 6.0 

Thank You for this video. Today I got Car Gauge Pro android and was able to do a buzz test on my 2000 7.3 diesel ( Bluetooth BAFX Products 34t5 scan tool) . It had been misfiring and for some reason, after 4 buzz tests it stopped misfiring and now runs like before (I'm sure I simply delayed the problem). I had already gotten Forscan Lite (way better PID interface fyi), but that couldnt do any tests. With all the info out there on these apps, I could not find anyone who could confirm a buzz test was possible from my phone until I saw this video. Thanks again!

As of Nov 2016 this updated app still can perform a buzz test on my 2002 7.3 with a Bluetooth odb2 adapter. It's a veepeak latest version from Amazon, like others say some of these cheap odb2 units from eBay and Amazon are hit and miss garbage. As a side note you can see IPR duty cycle, ICP volts, and injector pressure in MPa measurements.

will it give you the info on which one failed if one does?

Excellent video. I tried it, but unfortunately the Car Gauge Pro app just says "sequencing error or conditions not correct" no matter what diagnostics I try.

Will it identify one that doesn't buzz, or do you need the valve cover off to visually identify which one is the problem?

It didnt work on my 99 F-350, I really needed to to do a cylinder contribution test and a Buzz check, but it didnt see the truck computer. Not sure whats not right at this point.

Just a heads up to everyone who watches this video this will only work on the 7.3 trucks.

Man, I can't get it to respond or connect to bluetooth. It shows it paired but won't connect. On the car gauge app or the torque app. But responds to the torque app on my 2019 Chevy spark. Any suggestions as to what I need to do or what I might be doing wrong?

What version of car guage pro are you running? Ive got 3.66.26 and it demands a different bluetooth device (obdlink mx).

Do you know if any other ELM 327 will work for the buzz test? I found the one you suggest but it’s going to take 2 months for shipping! 😂 I found a bunch of other Vgate options and don’t mind spending more to get it here faster

This does not work with the 2006 F250 6.0. Tried 3 different bluetooth adapters and finally contacted Scantech support. They responded "Hi. 2006 is not supported at this time. Sorry for inconvenience "

Sounds like it's hit or miss if this thing works on a particular year/model, even the same yr/mod can see a different result. Makes sense, lots of times china pirates software and gets away with it for a year, then get caught, have to change, then we see different result on same product. Also, note the guy who shorted his PCM and had to pay $1,000 for a new. I found an old Snap On scanner for $ 150 with all the bits, sold some stuff I didn't need for $75, going to try the buzz test and see if I can figure it out.

The one I got for $4.99 from Beijing China did not work for the buzz test, it looked exactly like the one on this video. Can someone tell me where to get one that works?

Just ordered one and it came in today. For the life of me I can't mine to work. I get a error box that pops up saying " Device is not responding" Is there any other tricks I'm missing. It paired with my phone " Note2" But nothing.. Any Advice?

Anything OBDII will not work on 1997 OBS and earlier. Save your money on these devices if you have one of these trucks as I do. They are not OBDII compliant even though they have the OBDII plug.

does this also read the IDM Codes ? I have IDM codes present and a regular obd2 only reads stored codes on the ecu

When I attempt to buzz test the app will either say “conditions not correct” or if I turn the key off and then on it’ll buzz the injectors together and then say “unknown code”. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

Tried this in my 6.4 the buzz test didnt work well, only did the initial buzzing then says "unknown code" even contribution test doesnt work

Your Video title says 1996 - 2008? OBD Scanner on Ford states it should be no older than 2008 according to recommendations. Have you found that to be negligible? What year was your engine test done on? I want to try this on a 99, you think for a Buzz test it should work? Thanks for any feedback.
