I recommend using solder, the connections will last longer. I own a 1985 Honda ATC 125M and I replaced the stock ignition (which had already been modified to work without the key) with a toggle switch from a computer power supply.
Use a marine grade switch. Order from ebay, radioshack, whatever. But on an off bike/atv you want marine switch so the mud and water won't cause bike to start shorting out and shutting off ir worse, won't start in middle of nowhere. Great how-to man. I just wanted to put my $.02 where it may help someone who rides FAR from the truck/trailer parking spots.
@zx8401ztv Yeah they are definitely worth the effort, these things are bulletproof! When I toggle the switch to off while it's running it stays running, I always have used the kill switch on the hand controls to kill it. It did the same thing when I rebuild that ignition the first time, I guess it never contacted the engine kill wire or whatnot. thanks for watching!
@marcelstjean yeah I graduated from the screwdriver to the fancy pants toggle switch. Gonna have to wire one up for your ford's ignition lol thanks for watching man
great idea with the PSU switch. i've never thought to re-use tho. i always toss out old ones. gotta let those old PSU's sit for awhile before taking them apart, they can hold a huge charge for quite awhile and zap the holy hell out of ya
@paradoxdesigns oh yeah i've seen people get zapped before, this was a little 400 watt psu that blew up about 2 years ago in a crap computer I had, I usually try and save the fans and switches on stuff because they come in handy sometimes. I'm prolly gonna make a vid of me frying this fan though. thanks for watching man!
Badass and simple, i thought the same while tracing wires on a quad I'm working on and you confirmed pretty much everything, did you just leave the other wire from the ignition taped up separately and what if there's six wires... lights perhaps that don't follow all the way through the wiring of course to make it look extra complicated! Lol, Cheers bro and thanks!
If there are only 4 wires and you touch 2 and they start burning what would be the correct 2 that I should use for the toggle. If you could help out that'd be 👍
hmm, ive robbed bits from switched mode psu's to fix lcd tv's, that rocker switch will be fine. The other unused wire is the engine kill wire, and connects to the handlebar kill switch, earth it to stop the engine. Looks like the machine is getting cleaner and cleaner with every part painted, good old honda's worth the effort. :-)
i think they were meant to be connected. if you test one wire, it will have positive voltage and the other will test as leading to ground (but maybe not a dead short) so... before you connect them, they are effectively polar opposites at that point in the circuit. just like cutting a positive battery cable and testing both cut ends. even though it's your main positive cable, one will show pos. + and the other neg. -.
What is the application of the green and black with white line ? looks like a ground to turn of the engin ? but what happens if you turn off the button while the engine is running ?
Can anyone help me I have 2006 yamaha raptor 660 I have no ignition. Power to sart it ive hadnmy bike to so many so called bike. Macanics please. Help me
@EricTehRedneck Hello, Can you help me? I have a 1993 yamaha 350 moto4. I have a new ignition switch for it, but the wire colors aren't the same. The old one had red, black, brown, and a black wire with a white stripe. The new switch has Brown, Yellow, White, and green. Could you clear this up for me?
got a 200m "dead battery" When I pull the cord the neutral light lights up but doesn't seem to be a spark on the plug. Where do you think the issue could be?
Wtf this happen to me I just have the wires and the plate I took off it off and I just have have the wire do you need those black wire to connect the to the switch
@EricTehRedneck I wouldnt shell out loads of cash for a true honda switch as most small cc motorcycle ignition switches work the same as your atc's, Off / On / On with lights. :-)
Guys i Lost The Keys To My Quad! I'm Not Sure What To Do! I Was Wondering If someone Could Help? Comment DownBelow Please If You Know What I Should Do!
Coop-YT_Gaming _______ I know a lot of people who leave their ATVs outside with keys in them half the time. Cheap people with old stuff aren’t worried about that. I personally keep my machine in a locked building behind my house. And if that’s the case no one is going to steal it
