Don't forget the water method which is the easiest and fastest of the methods I have come cross. Put jar on scale, tare, fill jar with water to where you want your wax. Take the gram weight times (x) .86 Example. Water weight is 8.5 grams. Take 8.5 x .86 = 7.31 7.31 grams is your wax weight for that jar This way you don't have to fill your containers up with wax, dump them out, get all the wax out, scrub them out and make sure they are wax free so wick sticker can stick to it when you make a candle in that jar.

It does makes since ❤I was doing my formula wrong I didn’t include the jars I used the amount of wax I was using then adding 10% of wax based the amount of wax. Whew!! 😅 new subscriber❤

Hi I'm about a year ago I brought some products for candle making and soap making I had them in the same box like the products basically I think some of the oil that I had has melted a little with room temperature over time it's not covered completely all over the wax but there is some in some places just a tiny bit you can feel it on the wax will the wax still be ok to use for candles

Most candle waxes can last a year or two being stored at room temp. I would suggest making a candle and test it to see how it burns. My guess would be that it's ok.

I get a little confused by this. I'm wondering if the different waxes produce different results for the calculation. I used that same formula and was extremely short. Then I tried something else. To make 3 5 oz candles, I used 16 oz of wax, plus 1.6 oz of fragrance oil and it was perfect. I feel like maybe the soy wax evaporates some when I'm melting it down. It doesn't make sense that it takes 17 oz of liquid to make 3 5oz candles. Do you know what's going on?

So sorry you are going thru it. You must go by weight and not by volume. It is better that you use grams. Also... recheck your calculations. Let me know if this helps.

One other thought... did you tare your scale to 0 at the right time... both times?

@@wilcandlesI am going to try using grams and see if that makes a difference. I make sure to tare every time. I made that mistake one time only, LOL. The tins I'm using come from Candlescience. I'm using the little black, silver, and white 8oz, 6oz, 4oz, and 2oz tins right now. I went by what they say the fill line is on them, so it would be 5oz, 3.5oz, 2.7oz, 1.5 oz, and 0.5 for tealights. For the 3 I was saying, I did 16 ounces of wax and 1.6 ounces of FO when I was coming up short. Last night, we were testing wicks, so we grabbed one of each size since each uses a different wick, I added it up, which is 13.2 oz of wax and 1.32 oz of FO at 10%. Because of it being short, we went ahead and used 13.5 ounces of wax to give us a little extra just in case. It worked. So for some reason, we've been having to go up a little bit to ensure we aren't short on wax in the tins. It's really weird. It makes me wonder if 100% soy wax has a different density or something. We're using the Golden Brands 464 from Candlescience.

You will want to create a test candle for each size tin... and weigh each one in grams (to the line that you want to fill it) ... then calculate your fragrance oil.@@brittanyberry3780

@@wilcandlesI kind of figured maybe I should re-weigh them. I don't think Candlescience's weights are completely accurate. That's a huge gap in weight. I'll give that a try on the next fragrance for each tin so we know and don't run into this problem in the future. By the way, I love your channel. You give really great advice and tips! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me about this.
