Hi, I think that you missed one thing. On the letter that you read out it said that the digital hygrometer does not have a calibration button. So I assume that even if it is incorrect you are not able to change the reading. My only suggestion would be to put a tiny sticker on the back with a note of the correction e.g. Add 5%.

I know this is a year old. But what I did was just put a label on it that says +2 because 1 of my 4 pack came out off by 2% 73% with the salt test. Which i then tested with the Boveda 75% test and it was off by 2 % @73% so My previous salt test was accurate.

Thank you all I needed. Just a quick one: Can I put a digital and an analog hygrometer in the sandwich bag at the same time while doing the salt test? Or would you recommend to do it separately? I bought a basic humidor as I’m just starting and I have 2 hygrometers. The digital marks 69 and the analog 55. The analog was fine for a couple of days but then started dropping. Thank you!

Gary, I have a 100 count humidor with a top tray. I've seen the video on where to place you humidifier packs but I would like to ask where is the best place to put a digital hygrometer in your humidifier? On the top lid above the humidity pack, on the side wall, below the pack? I know many humidors have a place for the analog hygrometers but where is the best place to put a digital hygrometer to get the most accurate reading? Thanks, Steve Engelhorn, Bucyrus, OH

@CigarAdvisorMagazine
@CigarAdvisorMagazine 3 года назад
Here's Gary's reply - You can place the hygrometer a few inches above the humidifier/pack in the middle of the lid. If you have packs placed inside the body of the humidor among your cigars, you can place it dead center. But if you have a humidifier or pack holder under the lid, you might want to place the hygrometer near one of the upper corners of the lid. Be sure to give yourself enough room to close the lid. You may get a better reading if it's not so close to the humidifier. Hope that helps, g~

The idea is to do the salt test to get the relative humidity of 75% and then adjust your hygrometer to 75% if the hygrometer doesn't have an adjustment put a label that says +2% or whatever it may be to equal 75%. For example if the hygrometer shows 73% humidity after 24hrs of the salt test adjust it so it does read 75% or put a label on it that says +or- the number of % it is off by so you can accurately know what the humidity is. is this example it would be +2%

How fast do you have to calibrate it after removing it from the bag bc won’t it drop lower fast? So if you recalibrate it to 75 but it’s really lower, I assume that it wouldn’t be accurate..

I have a small analog hygrometer that came with a humidor. It has a small screw in the middle in the back however the slot for the score driver is half filled in so you can only fit a flat head screw driver in on a slant. Also after calibration I tried to spin it up to 75 and it sprang back to where it was. Is this adjustable? Also I noticed if it’s tapped hard the needle will change readings? I just want to use my humidor already.

2 questions. 1. I got a diamond crown 90 count Wesley humidor and they give u one of their digital hygrometers. I bought the boveeda one step and put it in their and after about a day in a half it's been at a steady 71RH amd around 66 degrees. Should I leave it in the bag longer? It's says on the bag minumum 24hrs. 2 .The humidity in my room went down cause we r in Winter season so I bought the boveeda 75RH 60 gram packs. I was told because I have a 90 count humidor to throw in 4 bags but now I only have 40 cigars in there so would two 60 gram packs be good enougb?
@chrisl2090
@chrisl2090 Год назад
This video doesn't really touch on Hygrometers that don't have a re calibrate or adjustment for Humidity. All you have to do is put the Hygrometer in the 75% boveda bag for 24 hrs. Whatever it comes out at just add or subtract % number and put a label on it. Example would be if the hygrometer says 73% put a label that says +2% so you know to add +2% to whatever the hygrometer reads in the humidor to get an accurate reading. To answer your second question I would say that the Boveeda packs give and take humidity so having more in it will not harm anything. If you would like to preserve your packs you cant put in lets say 2 packs and if the humidity can keep at 75% it is enough if it can't then add more packs. You can never have to many packs as it wont give off to much humidity but you can have to little of packs.

@cosmonaut379
@cosmonaut379 7 лет назад
"more accurate by design" no, just no. I'm not here for cigars just was looking at a different model of hygrometer so checked this one out. An analog hygrometer is the only truly accurate hygrometer and is able to be used from sea level and up in the clouds. But anyway people who don't understand science are funny, anyway I can't believe people would buy that kit though lol I'm astounded and confused, and disappointed in the human race. "Are you too lazy to mix some salt and water and put your hygrometer in a bag with them ? Well buy our product and open it up and place your hygrometer inside and you don't even have to mix a bit of salt with a bit of water. I wonder how much they cost because that is one awesome scam
@CigarAdvisorMagazine
@CigarAdvisorMagazine 7 лет назад
While I agree that generally it seems people are inherently becoming lazier and less handy, I don't see Boveda as being a part of that marketing campaign. A product of convenience and trusted quality does not necessarily pander to the crowd of 'too lazy to do it yourself' individuals. Western Humidor makes some of the most accurate hygrometers in the cigar industry. What if the sensor is identical to one used in an analog unit, but is simply displaying the readings digitally? Most comparisons find this to be accurate within 1%. And the Caliber 4R unit is only about $25. Not a bad deal. More accurate by design in terms of Boveda products refers to in addition to managing moisture, the permeable packs also absorb oxygen and control mold, among other features. Boveda holds 31 US patents (and also foreign equivalents in 20 other countries) on their products and are widely used not only by cigar fans, but art collectors, museums, food manufacturers, musicians for properly storing instruments, gun storage, electronics, etc. There are some other subtleties in their products you may not have been aware of, which separates them from a quick DIY method. There's nothing wrong with doing a calibration that way, but remember you can't get a patent on a plastic bag of water and salt, so there's obviously some differences. Proper storage is a massive industry, and reliable products to maintain those levels are crucial. For many, having an employee mixing table salt and water in zip lock baggies to tend to the care of millions of dollars of product is not the most ideal way to manage their time and assets. Naturally, this industry standard product is also used for cigars. This awesome scam is available for under $5 in over 2,500 retailers around the world.
@cosmonaut379
@cosmonaut379 7 лет назад
CigarAdvisorMagazine I just found it crazy that people would pay for that but I'm a DIY sort of guy so I have to look at things differently lol I like to make and toy with anything that I can. There are great hygrometers sold that are tailored to growing orchids with very fine readings on them. A large analog though is the most accurate but on a smaller device definitely digital
@CigarAdvisorMagazine
@CigarAdvisorMagazine 7 лет назад
I'm the same way, I like making things myself. I prefer analog units but don't mind a quality digital one as long as it is just as reliable. If its well made, all that matters is that you are happy with it. Cheers buddy, thanks for checking out our channel!
@bicycle551
@bicycle551 4 года назад
Hi Brian, you're right about the analog hygrometer. It is accurate and reliable. You just can't fix stupid. These guys telling you to stick a screwdriver into the back and adjust are nuts and incapable of communicating. They don't explain you have to 'fix' the needle in place, move the screw/shaft to allow for slight re-positioning of the needle on the shaft.
@PlanktoniusRex
@PlanktoniusRex 4 года назад
Yep. Boveda makes good humidification packs but their marketing hype is edging on snake oil..."Our salt is REALLY scientifically salty!" They sell a kit for this simple test! But if this new generation has money to burn I guess they are gonna burn it....Boveda might as well rake it in.
