Awesome tuturial!! Just added the all metal extrudder kit, the capricorn tubing and the dual z axis kit. Idk how my prints have even been turning out so well because it was only extruding 65mm until I calibrated it via the steps in the video with a final transmission number of 143.0 I get a perfect 100mm now every time.

I did mine partly another way which I saw done on another channel but I used your help with the screen settings and how to move the extruder as they were connecting their laptop up to the printer and using some program that I do not have... This way I did Not have to remove the bowden tube from the extruder. I just took the filament out and marked 120mm then put the filament and loaded it into the extruder to the first line then used your way to extrude 100mm then marked the filament at the front of the extruder where I also started with the line on the start of the 120mm section. I took the filament out and measured the remaining distance which was 22mm and using your formula it was under extruding so I changed the setting, saved it and turned the printer off, and did it again and now it is spot on 100mm of length extruded.. thank you for the help.. much appreciated.

Good video. Don't cut it before you measure though, use the upper jaws to measure it to the face while it's still in the extruder. Easy to pull it straight and measure. Release the filament, pull it back close to flush, cut short piece and recheck.

You are great. The easiest to follow. I watched other videos and the process was so tricky that I literally didn't do my calibration. But after your video, I will do it right after writing the comment. One question - squeezing or pressing at the extruder will result in any error or not? I mean is it require to verify the length before and after the extruder side? Great work man. Thanks a lot

Small tip to make measuring easier: straighten the filament a little after cutting, then tape it to the bed in a straight line leaving only the ends exposed. Much easier and accurate measuring. Thank you for the video. I've been having some strange problems with my cr-10. Running this, I found out it was different every time. After replacing the gear/roller with the bad teeth, I found it was 11% off from the factory. yikes!

Just a note: AT 9:00 minutes you casually mentioned that "you just power cycled the printer" before checking the new E-step calibration. You MUST power cycle the printer otherwise the new offset value gets added to the old value and the 100mm length will be way to much - in my case it was around 106mm. After power cycling it was perfect. Great video though!

On ender 3 pro 32 bit 4.2.2 original firmware, you MUST have sd card in place or when you cycle power nothing will be saved. Path is different, Prepare>Motion>Extrude. This might apply to other versions also. Thanks dude. I have watched many videos on this but they all assumed we knew how to manually extrude.

@blackdeath5026
@blackdeath5026 2 года назад
If you do it this way, when you actually run it thru the hotend then it will come up short, so the best way is to run the filament thru the hotend for a better reading
@matthewlabovich6204
@matthewlabovich6204 3 года назад
Great vid thanks. Question - why do you have to heat the extruded if the filament is completely disconnected from tube and device?
@509drone2
@509drone2 3 года назад
Thanks! The printer will not engage the extruder motor unless the hotend is heated up. Its a safety feature in the printers firmware.
@enquiryplay
@enquiryplay 3 года назад
Thank you for the instruction! I would have expected that measuring with the Bowden tube and hot end connected would give a more accurate reading comparable to a "real life" scenario?
@Rubafix989
@Rubafix989 3 года назад
There are other ways to compensate for "real life" scenarios. Steps/mm links the motor rotation to a rectilinear movement, you want it to be as precise as possible. If using this method you find that your printer under extrude maybe increase the hot-end temperature or raise the extruder multiplier in the slicer.
@509drone2
@509drone2 3 года назад
I got pretty much the same measurement/calculation from both methods. I have a video on how to do it the other way as well if you would like to check as well.
@stageeyephotography5160
@stageeyephotography5160 3 года назад
Hi I followed your video with my Ender 3 v2 . I switch to a dual drive gear extruder and when I set the extruder for 100 instead of it going out the reverses and withdraws the filament. I have to turn off the printer then turn back on and when I go to the extruder I can set for 100 and it will roll out to 68 mm. It has not yet came close to the 100mm even after attempting several times. The steps setting is at 93. I did the calculations and It says set for 145mm which so I set the steps e to 145mm , stored settings and set extruder 100mm and when I do a measurement with extruder filament length is 73 , it seems it’s not coming close to 100 or not even the 90’s . My question is how can I resolve this problem. And just to add when printing the first layer retraction leaves stringing and I have tried several designs and they are stringy, before switching to the aluminium dual drive gear extruder had no stringing or filament globs oozing out of nozzle .4 . Thinking about going back to plastic extruder even though it slipped at time I had better quality designs than what I have now.
@DanielTysonDanielTyson
@DanielTysonDanielTyson 2 года назад
This was really easy to follow, many thanks. I just had a couple of questions. I saw estep calibration on another tutorial, where instead of updating the printer, it updated the slicer (Cura) - is that just an alternative? I also recall reading that changes on the printer are stored on the microSD card? Is that right?
@509drone2
@509drone2 2 года назад
Thanks bro! Glad it was helpful. You can only update your esteps on your printer, not the slicer software (I'm not 100% sure on that, but that's my understanding) as for the SD card, some printers like the ender 3 v2 save the esteps info on the SD card. So you will want to make sure your SD card is in your printer when you update the esteps. This is the file you will see on the SD card called eprom. You can add commands for the printer to execute before it prints via the slicing software (cura) but I don't think esteps is one of them. For example, that is how you tell your printer to always do an auto bed level before each print.

I have a ender-3 v2 and are very good for the money you pay. But you have to invest in if you want to get nice prints and fast. I pay 300€ for the printer and 200€ in upgrade. Pi4, direct drive, springs, belt, extruder, bltouch.. Etc. I recommend ender-3v2 but if you have more money take something with a big bed( x y) and z axis.

If you want a 3d printer just to print something you need around the house ender-3 v2 it's just fine. If you want to print and sale or to make big prints take CR 10 max 450mm x 450mm x 470mm. And you will need less upgrade for it.
@dannyblondu23

If you are good with your hands built on your self. With Duet WiFi 2 ( klipper) and you don't need pi4. More expensive and long time to built but you will have a better printer. Up tu you.

I think that will work as well, but it won't be as accurate.

I think you are on to something. You calibrate it without resistance...then you gonna use it while adding resistance...

What is the firmware you are using on that? I have an Ender 5 Plus with the touchscreen and it has very simple menus with fewer options, and I don't see the e steps setting anywhere on it.

When I hit 100 on the move option. it extrudes 94mm of filament. should I change the setting or this is because of the stock 93 movement value of the ender 3? I have an ender 3 v2 with upgraded firmware
