I have this device and it has performed flawlessly for six months now with frequent use. After my research I selected it because it's EASY and will work with my ancient computers and game consoles. It isn't perfect but it's easy and perfect enough for my needs. Great review! You checked all the boxes and I really don't have anything to add except that the one I have is still still going strong and I recommend these. Great for those more on the creative side and less on the tech side of things.

My old Dell PC I used to record footage bit the dust a few days ago and I picked this up. It works great. Simple to use menu and I did not notice any input lag. Thanks for the recommendation.

That little intro was ace, the weird baseline and gritty visual would mean absolutely nothing to most people but to me it's pure retro nostalgia. I really liked Arcus Odyssey in the drive. It had a great moment in the intro were it did a parallax scroll which looked like rotation that's I watched many times. Admittedly a lot of the renovation/wolf team games were not amazing but for me they had something about them that made me want to play them.

Thanks for the info. I also try to help consumers (Old folks mostly) make informed decisions. In other words...I cock block retailers trying to sell casual users stuff they don't need. You see an older gent/gal trying to purchase a new "set". The retailer is trying to sell them a 60 inch, curved monstrosity clocking 8k. The first thing to ask the retailer, while casually inserting yourself in the conversation: "What's 8k for?" Then I ask "What are you watching on your television? It's not bleeding edge gaming, or even an UHD Blueray player. "So..you use a DVD and netflix? Just get a 720p or 1080p set. Save a couple of hundred bucks." Retailers get mad, but It's only fair. I think most people these days are hung up on horizontal resolution numbers. 720p gameplay footage is just fine.

I have the same device, and I think it's really good, it's only missing S-Video to be a all-in-one solution for me. In my experience, regarding the image quality for old pixelated games, to my eye it's a little on the soft side. That said, for me, has the best bang for the buck I seen, also as a bonus, you don't need a Windows installation to use it (I'm mostly a Linux guy).

Wow, this is perfect. I’ve been trying to find something that allows me to take captures for my retro gaming setup without having to lug a laptop or have a PC setup in my game room.

You can do record footage to your battle of the ports video you can take any console source such as mega drive, SFC, Sega Saturn to composite output

I think you're right about 720p, it's a proper 'sweet spot' for image quality. Anything below can look a bit rough, whereas anything above is nice but not essential. It's an easy resolution for 4K TVs to upscale too (3x each axis), plus retro games scale nicely to 720p (3x 240p).

Indeed. I use 720p for all my retro stuff on a 4K screen. Looks great. I even run my Xbox 360 in 720p. The modern console out put at their top resolution mind you.

Cool device! I need one. And man, hearing "Game Creative Staff: Wolfteam" takes me waaaay back to the good old days. The Devastator game must be based on the D-1 Devastator anime. The music is the same.

Yep, it is based upon the anime. It features many clips from the anime as well. It's a reasonable game. Typical of Wolfteam I'd say.

Interesting. I'd like to see how it handles upscaling images from something like an N64, or NES, and how it'd compare to something like an OSSC. Basically, i'd like to know if I could use it as a Framemeister with a built in record function.

No. This isn't an upscale device. I mean, it will take the signal but it won't make it any better than what is put in to the system.

I'm impressed by this product, lol at nobody knowing about original footage being in 720p 60fps, yeah you're videos have always looked impressive, I think I will pick one of these up sometime, thanks for the review and links.

lol, I was really happy people enjoyed the 1080p stuff and they did look better than the 720p I used to put out but the source material is the same as the 720p stuff.

@@RetroCore Yeah like you say the editing software does the trick, there's no reason to have larger file sizes with raw 1080p footage if there's going to be next to no difference in the quality of the final video.

Is it possible to capture video with this while playing on a CRT? For example, if I use a switch box with 2 outputs, one goes go the CRT and the other goes to this capture device via AV?

Yes, absolutely but you'll need to figure out the wiring.

Very nice ! I bought a similar device "Avermedia Game Capture HD 2" years ago and was pretty happy with it but max resolution is 1080p 30fps. But we can edit video directly on the device, cut scene part, add overlay logo, connect RU-vid account and upload directly (ethernet port) etc.. pretty complete machine with nice fuction. Too bad there is only record and play on this one the video ! But at least pc editing is much better(easier and comfortable) than doing this on remote i guess :D

I am super curious as to what the input lag is on that, wonder if anyone has done any hardcore testing as it's the only thing that would stop me from getting one of their devices when my Elgato HD60s dies... again. Reason why is because I play fast reaction games like the Ninja Gaiden Sigma series but I also speedrun Bayonetta 2 which has 2f input windows. Looks cool regardless, thanks for the video (was waiting for this one), and I am thinking about possibly getting the Flint 4KP Plus model just to future proof things.

thanks to your video I got the cloner alliance box :) very cool device. but I have a question. is the cloner alliance box pro compatible with the upscalers like ossc scan converter or rad2x ? I would like to buy on of these but Im not sure if it will work.

Quality stuff. Thanks for doing this. I've been thinking of doing a gaming channel for a while, but needed to figure out what to capture footage with w/o breaking the bank. Now...what software do you use to edit your gameplay videos with? And do you need a special video card for it?

I use Sony Vegas or just Vegas as it is now called. It isn't dependant on any video card so you can capture videos with this device and import them in to the video editing software. That's how I added the direct capture footage to this video.

Hmm the VGA capturing is interesting , do you know if it supports the old dos resolutions like 320x240?

The lowest official resolution is 480p / 480i. It may take 240p but I've not tested that.

Nice. Does it capture from HDCP protected sources like PS4 or do you need a HDMI splitter? How is the quality when capturing from analogue sources like VGA and Composite?

Quality when capturing from analogue is good. Maybe. A little softer but nothing that would be a deal beaker. As for videoing from a PS4, I haven't tried that but my other capture devices can copy from a PS4 without an issue. So I don't see why this won't. My other devices don't contain any special anti piracy hardware.

I know it's good for older consoles too, but would there be any reason to use this over something like the internal PS4 Pro capture? Also do the still snapshots save as PNG?

I don't see how the PS4 Pro is related. that can only capture it's own games, right? This can capture anything. The images it saves are PNG as far as I can remember.

Yes, component will work just fine via the multi connector.

I'll wait for a true 4Kin/4Kout/4k or fhd record. The "Cloner Alliance Box Evolve" can use 4K input but it downscales the signal to FHD for both recording and output (passthrough).

I'm sure you would have already mentioned it knowing how detailed you normally are when reviewing items, but I have something similar and it has a problem with any video over 5 to 10 minutes long the sound starts lagging as much as 5 seconds behind. I have to stop recorder and start again every few minutes to prevent the lag. As you can imagine if you're playing a game and then you go back to edit the video on your computer, your gameplay is pretty much trashed because the sound is so out of sync to what's happening on screen.

I've not noticed a y lag issues on this device when capturing via hdmi. I hardly use the multi connector so I cant say for that but I don't see why it would be any different.

Sony Vegas. Actually it's not called Sony Vegas now. Sony sold the software to another company. Now its just caed Vegas.

Not directly but if you convert the DVI to say hdmi or component, then yes.

Interesting well it's Japan where they still like Physical media and watch re run, if my memory serve me right there should be TV with built in record option and easy to swap HDD which really handy and I hope there something like that in my country.

Sure, My TV has a record option and that can also have HDD connected to it although I never watch Japanese TV so that feature is never used.
