I had to laugh I could of cried. Despite being 72 years old, and fishing with a fixed reel since a boy, I have just acquired a multiplier rod and reel. Went to Chesil. My first cast even though I watched your informative video before hand, ended up with a huge bird nest. Thank goodness the multiplier rod is not too bad with a fixed reel on it. I'm not going to give up. I'm going somewhere quiet to practice, out of the way, in case I kill someone. Taking the missus though, she is brilliant at untangling birds nest.
I'm still new to surfcasting. There is little information, so I am looking here ... I am going to buy a Penn 515 mag 4. How far can I cast 50-70 grams with this reel? What is the best rod length to use? What test should such a rod have? Is it better to use a compound rod or a telescopic rod?
The rod to choose is very dependent on where your fishing. The fish your likely to be catching and the size of the weights you need to hold the bottom and to achieve the distances your able to cast.
Very interesting. Out of even more interest, what are the rod specifications, length, casting weight. How heavy is you line? I presume the line is braid? What was the weight of the lead and lastly what reel are you using? Much appreciated thanks
Bit of bike innertube works well too. I use a strip of innertube with a split cut in it. The split goes over the reel foot. Is then cut long enough that it lifts up to cover the spool when casting. After have cast out, it lays flat against the rod out of the way. Works a treat👌
