How To Change a 3406 Injector or C15 Injector on Cat engines

That's a cheaper solution than the $100 extended angle die grinder I bought, now you tell me! Luckily I have good luck just spraying the bore with brake clean usually.

+Regal2800 Thanks for the comment. I have been toying with the idea of doing a rebuild compilation of maybe step by steps of a Diesel rebuild with photos or just short video clips. Would you prefer a single video or maybe a series? Make sure you subscribe too, it keeps me motivated every time I see my subscriber count go up.

+Adept Ape My suggestion would be to make it a series. The more information the better. A few videos on trouble shooting diesel engine problems would also be helpful to many. I have already subscribed!

I didn't think too many people would watch these injector videos for the entertainment value, but I can see how they would be interesting if you're thinking of being a Mechanic. Thanks for the comment! I get motivated to make more of these when I hear from people that like these.

+Adept Ape I'm seriously thinking about pursuing a career with CAT. And I was wondering what it's like? When working for CAT, can you work in a specific criteria like just engine, suspension, electrical, work? Or is it engine, hydraulic, etc?

+Maxx Edwards So if your working for Cat you'll actually be working for your local dealership, you probably know that already. Yes there are different departments for the mechanics. There is a weld shop, truck shop, generator shop, industrial engine, earthmoving, hydraulic bay, CRC (engine rebuilds), and field service. Pretty good diversity of positions. There is also mining, marine, logging, and asphalt depending what part of the country your in. Hope that helps you out. I get a lot of Cat specific employment questions maybe I should do another career video.

If you could do a video on CAT careers for diesel mechanics, that would be so awesome. I would love to hear about all the details for the options, it would help me tremendously! :)

Yes it is a good idea. I did a quick check of the overhead on this engine, but am going to do a full C15 overhead adjustment video in the future and that is why I didn't include the adjustment in this video. Thanks for the comments.

@@AdeptApe should called a local shop and they want $993 in labor to replace just 1 injector.

I think I mentioned in the end of the video that it is good idea to have a complete overhead done after doing injectors. Since the overhead is off anyways, you can kill 2 bird with one wrench.

+Tj Willians If you understand the principles of an automotive engine, you can understand the Diesel fine. A Diesel, while heavier and more expensive, is somewhat simpler. There is no spark system to worry about, many are inline 6 engines so there is only one valvetrain. No timing belt to worry about and no intake control system for the throttle.

Yes sir I can, C15 overhead is actually my number 1 request, but I'm waiting to get one in the shop. Been working on a lot of C7 engines, cooling system faults, and electrical faults. I'll hopefully get one up soon though.

Thank you for the fast reply . I am actually a John Deere Ag master field tech and I bought my peterbilt as a hobby truck and maybe a show truck some day . It is funny but all the things I watch you do are so much the same with Deere . But CAT rocks I am a huge fan of CAT engines they are the best in my opinion . Farm tractors do not have Jakes so I am curious on how to adjust them . Thank you

Will do, I'm going to make a C15 overhead adjustment video. There are some on RU-vid, but I want to do a thorough one that will describe injector height, valves, Jake's, and IVAs. I just have to wait to do one at work and record it.

+Justin Hoehner I did an in frame on a 3306 engine last year with the pencil nozzles. Does the engine run? The reason I ask is because if coolant is coming out around the injectors you probably have a cracked head or head gasket that is sending coolant into the combustion area.

Preferably like a 5 gallon fuel tank or canister and not the fuel tank.

Robert Cass it could be lots of things but cylinder compression is definitely getting into the system. Watch his videos on bottle test and such. Good vids.

Cat Reman injectors are much more than that. The ones on eBay are probably remanufactured by a fuel shop somewhere but not Cat. Cat remans are probably in the 400-600(depends on horsepower and serial number) dollar range per injector. I've never put aftermarket injectors in an engine so I can't say how they will run compared to genuine CAT Reman ones. The 6NZ C15 is ones of the best engines ever made in many Mechanic's opinion.
