If an injector is changed or removed it is a good idea to set the injector height on Cat engines. This video explains the proper procedure for completing the injector height adjustment on C10, C11, C12, C13, and some C15 engines.
I just traded my sweet obs 7.3 crew cab with munal trans, for a flat top freightliner with c12 in it that has a misfire ... its been very stressful as I need the truck, these videos have helped alot thank you
Hello sir i have a little problem with my cat c15 acert twin turbo my engine at idle rocks side to side and the sleeper cab shakes bad while idle and betting 12k rpm and 14k i replace the motor mount thinking it was the engine mounts but that didnt fix it any idea what could it be i mean the truck has power but it feel like and injector is not working right help me out with that man i can send a video of how the engine idle so you can see it moving side to side
I have a C13 that one of the #5 cylinder push rods came out and landed safely horizontally along the vertical push rods. I was in a big rush to get truck up and running I am not sure which push rod came out? I put in back in and guessed on the adjustment to see if all would be OK. The engine started and is still running ok as of now. The rod that pop out did not bend and the one adjuster tip on that rod got a little nicked. The driver says all is good until he uses engine brake, the engine brake works, but the check engine light goes on and off when he runs the engine brake. I am about to go in and replace the adjuster and possibly the 5/6 engine brake solenoid pack and (run over-head) adjust all valves and injectors as your videos explains. Why did a push rod pop out? should I replace the engine brake pack for the number 5/6? Parts I got for C13 0LEE09239: 10R-2133 ARM AS Roker, 319-0271 Push Rod- Injector, 10R-6691 Actuator.
+Rudy Salazar The pushrods don't usually fall out for no reason. The adjustment should be 15 thousands intake and 25 thousands exhaust. The rocker arm is possibly the cause, but my guess would be you have a bad lifter/follower/camshaft that increased the gap the pushrod and that could be the cause of it doing that. Look at that lifter the pushrod sits in very closely, you might want to pull the oil pan and take a look at the cam lobe for that cylinder as well. You may have got lucky and the pushrod may have fallen out, but my guess is you have another problem.
If they are brass like the 3116, there's special tooling for removing and installing them. It's cheaper/faster to simply buy a Cat Reman head that already has them installed vs purchasing tooling to do one head. The brass ones are known to be. PITA sometimes.
+Mrvmtm The C12 engine is a reliable and simple engine. Single turbo, pushrods, no emissions items. Now the horsepower can vary greatly based on whether the engine was an RV engine or not. The RV engines with a C12 could be 400+ hp, but a truck version is usually much less. If you know the serial number of the engine you are looking at I can tell you the max horsepower for it.
I have a C12 2KS. 365000 miles. What would cause a slight flutter , not necessarily a miss, just between 1300-1500 RPM? No smoke noted. Any input would be appreciated.
My 2ks c12 cat manual does not mention injector height tool at all. And I have the yellow big injectors. Just says to go to zero lash and then 180 degrees and then that’s it. Can you explain? I have to put my motor back together next week and you saying to use tool is confusing me. What does the tool do? They don’t even make the too For c10 c12 or 13 upon research. Thanks in advance.
I enjoy your video's Adept however I have to ask this question. As you work for CAT do they not question the fact that you are giving away mechanical information that could potentially harm their business?
+0BMM1 I have never had a Cat representative message more or anything to say that. I did have someone comment that they were doing some sort of Caterpillar service information survey and they found my videos helpful. I'm not really giving any top secret info out, just the proper way to do things. I figure that if you own a Cat its nice to have the info out there to perform some of the maintenance yourself if you want to and it makes a better owner, I wouldn't want to own a car that I couldn't at least do maintenance on myself.
The preload is to keep " lash" out of the valve train and prevent the injector plunger/barrel from hitting the mechanical stop when the injector lobe is on its base circle. If you look closely at the lobe profile for the injector, you can see that it has very agressive ramps on the lobe, any " lash" or looseness would be transmitted to the lobe and roller when the engine is at high speed, and would beat the parts to death over time.
Hi. I have been following your tutorials videos a long time ago because of the accuracy and professionalism of their content. But now I am confused about a topic which is the following: I will install the cylinder head on a c15 acert sdp engine and i need to know if I need injector height tool or not. The serial number is sdp104..also the torque specs for the studs of the compression brakes and rocker arms and vva's I really appreciate your information Thank you Merry xmas
i know Im randomly asking but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
@Gary Ira thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
+Che Kelley I usually tell the new the paint locks the bolt/nut in place, but that is just to mess with them. It is really to say "this one is done" so if it's an adjuster then it has been adjusted, if it's a bolt them it had been torqued.
+kwmiked I haven't done a video on one yet, there are a few rebuilds in the shop though so I'm hoping to get some good videos out through the end of the year.
+Byron Mcgowen I've never heard about shimming the regulator, the regulator is on the fuel filter housing though. If you watch my fuel pressure troubleshooting video it'll show where it is.
